How would people feel about getting Luongo in the offseason? Two reasons:

1 - Without him, we will likely get a pretty high pick. In fact, I think we should sell off a number of pieces this season, essentially "tank". It looks like a very good draft. If we had a top 5 pick, there's a decent chance we'd be able to draft our longterm answer for the #1 C position

2 - His value will go down. They'd pretty much give him away at that point I'd imagine.

I don't want him right now, because IMO it squanders what I perceive as our best chance at getting a top line C (this upcoming draft) by pushing us up into the ~15th overall pick range. But also not making us nearly good enough to contend.

But after adding a top C prospect via the draft, at that point we could have the semblance of a good young core, so getting stable netminding for ~4-5 years could help those players develop in a more stable environment, and also if that C prospect really does turn out, we could potentially become contenders towards Luongos last few years of being a good goalie. Getting him after the season I don't think hurts this team longterm the way getting him now would do.

Considering what Nonis said, and the bad PR it woud be to trade a high first round draft choice before he ever really had a shot at the NHL, I can't see trading Kadri.

The only player that makes sense is Grabo or Bozak - Van needs a second line center to replace Kesler. While that would solve part of the problem with respect to freeing up a place for Kadri, I would hate to lose a heart and soul player like Grabo, and would Van accept Bozak?

Edmonton rumour.

Gillis wants Kadri and Gardiner but Edmonton thinks they can take Luongo for Dubynk."Think about it, it is a great deal for both teams..Vancouver gets a young backup who could develop into a starter." Way to slap lipstick on that pig, dreamers.

Gee, we should trade Scrivens for Luongo then.

I think a whole lot of you smoke crack. Not trying to flame. Seriously. Take Lous stats year in and year out and show me where he faltered? So he got replaced by Schneider. So what? JFJ also hedged his bets on his "goalie of the future". Now Rask plays in Boston and Pogge is nowhere to be found. The point is, people make decisions and Gillis has seen it appropriate to appoint Schneider the new face in Van. It happens. If you think that Lou coming to TO is a bad move, you dont realize that the most important thing the Leafs need is a goalie of worth. Mortgage the future? Who Kadri? Thats Just silly. Hes no Hall, Couturier, or any other number of game changers. Lou brings instant credibility to the Club. Thats been lacking for a loooooong time. If he was already a Leaf and signed that contract, the Nation would jump for joy at having him around. Lou agreeing to waive his NTC to come here also brings more starpower to the squad and give other UFAs reason to really think about coming here. Reims seems like a great guy. But hes no Luongo and there is noone on the horizon, as much as youd like to think there is. Remember S.Centomeau? The Monster? All the Goalie of the future that you can come up with for the Leafs for the last 20yrs. Put the pipe down.

Bob McKenzie said on Vancouver radio that Gillis is holding firm on the price for Luongo and nobody is willing to pay it. Said Bernier is something they will consider.

Lots of very good points here. While Kadri is not Hall or Couturier, he is a very talented young player that needs to be given a fair shot. He is our only real potentially top six forward in the system.

Van does need to get rid of Lou before next year.. I say wait them out and try and get a better deal than giving up on Kadri.

If Luongo were to be traded, it would have already been done. This trade isn't going to happen until the off-season. So long folks!

Im sorry but with a 48 game season. Im all for a tank.

Another top pick in such a deep draft year will be a huge one for the leafs. The way I look at it, iv already waited 2 months for the season to start.. I can wait another 2 months for it to end and to go into the off season.

Every year the leafs are "rumored" to be in on big name UFA's, this year will be no different. The only thing different this time is to pony up and get these players(Im looking at you Getz and Perry). Barring they don't get re signed, you do what ever you can to get these guys signed, even if its 7 years they want. You do it.

We have tried the draft model, signing guys to 2/3/4 year contract model, going with what we have model. Developing model. Just about every model there is except signing good(and PROVEN) players who can excel.

With our cap hit next year and the gorgeous position we are in compared to other teams in a league, i'm saying GO FOR IT. Do whatever you can to sign Perry and Getz to long term deals, buyout Komi and wait til the offseason and take a look at Luongo and where you stand, although a goalie will need to be acquired no matter what unless Reimer has a good year, all will have to be evaluated.

Wanna make your mark Nonis? Sign them. Lets get some good canadian boys back on this team and start playing with some true heart.

This whole saga has really made me like Luongo the person much better. He has been publicly embarrassed on many levels and yet has continued to act with dignity and class. Obviously the hilarious twitter account does not hurt either, but I feel the proper thing for Gillis to do for both Luongo and his team is to end this mess. Either accept what is available now or take him off the block until the summer time. I would imagine that this is a distraction for the Canucks and will only escalate once the actual seasons begun.

Yes as much as it looks like he will start the year in vancouver, i just cant see this lasting. Gillis has to take the best offer soon and move on.
I dont think luongo will enjoy sitting the first 5 games.

I like Luongo, but that contract is an albatross for any team, no matter how Gillis tries to paint it.

My offer would be Bozak and Komisarek. Period.

If they don't like it, we'll see if anyone else tops our offer. I really don't think anyone is in the market for a goalie with a large cap hit, and a very long contract.

Luongo wants to go to Florida, but they already have solid, inexpensive goaltending. I doubt they would be willing to part with anything significant.

I'm not sure who else is interested but if Gillis wants to play hardball, I say let him.

The Canucks have $9m of cap room next season, with 7 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies signed (per CapGeek). Edler is due for a huge raise (definitely 4m+ per season), so they will have to fill out a lineup with scraps and lose Malhotra, Higgins, Lapierre and Raymond in the process.

They have to move Luongo, and the price decreases every day and will hit the rock bottom in the summer. If someone tops our offer, than so be it. I only want Luongo if we get him for basically nothing, which is all he is really worth. There are very few teams interested in the eastern conference that can afford him, and I know Vancouver will be reluctant to trade him to a western conference rival.

The Leafs are the best spot for him. They just need to force Gillis to drop his price considerably. Patience is key. That contract is not going anywhere.

Well to start the season off we have a back to back so I'm assuming Luongo gets in right away.

Also Luongo said he expects to start 3 of the first 10 games (might've been AV who said that).

Curious but does anyone know if GM's can use the new rules to pick and choose the years when they retain caphit. For example, lets say the Leafs pay Luongo's cap his for the first 4 years of deal. In years 5-7 the Canucks incur a cap hit of 1million and after year 7 the cap hit is shared equally.

Would be complicated but would definitely be interesting.

Although I have no faith in our goalies, I wouldn't trade either for Dubnyk. He folds cheaper then a quick suit. Is terrible at using his size as an advantage and just not very good at anything. Doesn't have age on his side either.

Throw lombardi in there and I agree.

Why won't this thread die? We will not be trading for Luongo, unless Nonis wants to start his GM time here being labeled as a liar. He will not trade youth for vets. He is more patient than Burke. Best tell Florida to startup a Luongo thread.
