Lucas Raymond, 19 years old, 22 points in 24 games

he scored 23 goals in 28 games between January 20th and the end of the season one year which was the most in the NHL over that timeframe

Yeah sadly when Nyquist lost a bit of his skating as he aged, his top line effectiveness went down. Still a very solid top 6 guy but he maxed out pretty early due to skating going down post injuries. He was killing people on breakaways those first couple of years. What I like about Ray is that most of this is his shot and IQ. Those guys tend to have longer peaks than the guys that just rely on skating. (Actually one of my fears about Larkin's effectiveness after this contract expires).

Is Chicago Detroit rivalry still a thing?
Realistically the rivalry was just a historic one by fans due to relative proximity. The two team's peaks didn't really coincide, and outside of some shenanigans in the 2009 ECF (Kronwall hitting Havlat, Sharp spearing Lidstrom in the testicles) there hasnt been much bad blood on the ice.

It sounds funny, but the Wings biggest WCF rival their last few years in the West were undoubtedly Anaheim and San Jose.

I can't say it enough -- this kid is a special, special player. Shades of Zetterberg out there. I keep hearing those lazy "Marner or Gaudreau" comparisons and his game has never reminded me of either -- he's bigger, thicker, and more complete than either of them. His hands are comparable and his natural hockey IQ could even be superior to both. They razzle dazzle but Raymond plays a more concrete "always doing the right thing" game.

He was so good during that stretch. And it came during a time when Datsyuk and Zetterberg were missing games with injuries. Nyquist was leading the offense playing with Franzen and then Legwand, the Jurco-Sheahan-Tatar line was a spark plug in the ozone, and Glendening stepped in and took on all the defensive assignments that Datsyuk and Zetterberg usually ate up. It was an exciting stretch where they got us in the playoffs and it seemed like the youth movement was on a nice path.

But was Nyquist ever explosive during that stretch. That goal he scored against Tampa was spectacular and then he also blew by Chara when he was still a top defender. It was definitely the best hockey he ever played.

Also, this Raymond might be pretty good at hockey.

I wonder if they could make a serious play for Eichel without moving much off their current roster? Do the Sabres bite on...

Eichel?

I don't want Eichel due to his health issues. He hasn't even had surgery yet, or decided against it, so who knows when he will ever play again. Most likely he isn't going to play this year, and then will possibly still need rehab or surgery time.

You are forgetting Shaw gooning it up in 2013. Just thinking about that ugly vile waste of space makes my blood boil. I’m sure part of it is blowing a 3-1 series lead, and losing game 7 in OT, but that’s neither here nor there.

Only walked through Weegar, Ekblad and Barkov. No big deal.

Weegar made a mistake on a simple play for some reason. He chose to be aggressive when he didn't have to do anything to keep Raymond going outside. Good for Raymond to show his skills and take advantage. Barkov and Ekblad did their job.

9 in 9 currently. My pre season prediction was 60 and I think he'll hit that.

We'll see, he still needs to adjust to the longer schedule especially since this year is jammed tighter together because of the Olympics. Hope you are right.

I was disappointed to miss out on Stuetzel, glad Raymond is proving me wrong.
