Chatgpt Halifax Highlanders Rationale

  • Forwards: This lineup has a good balance of skill, playmaking, and physicality. The 1st line has a strong two-way player in Barkov flanked by talented wingers in Peterka and Bratt. The 2nd line combines the offensive skills of Newhook, Beniers, and Slafkovsky. The 3rd line provides depth and grit, with Holloway and Burakovsky adding speed and skill, and Drury offering a solid center presence. The 4th line brings toughness and experience.
  • Defense: The 1st pair has a mix of offensive and defensive capabilities with Sanderson and Hronek. The 2nd pair is balanced with Skjei and Liljegren, providing stability and good puck-moving skills. The 3rd pair offers depth and physicality with Benoit and Lundkvist.
  • Goaltending: Logan Thompson is the starter due to his recent strong performances, with Dustin Wolf as a capable backup.
This setup should provide a solid mix of offense, defense, and special teams potential.

Bar Harbor Humpbacks

Raymond - Point - McCann
Kreider - Hertl - Nyquist
Chinakhov - Cates - Amadio
M Barron - Sturm - Leason

M. Anderson - Faber
Leddy - Emberson
Määtta - Spence

Talbot
Ersson
As mentioned, this team is disciplined.

It is also fast; has high-end, yet balanced production; has a mix of veterans and improving young players; has Cup success (4 players, six Cups), and some physicality.

4th and 5th fastest D (according to NHLEdge): Leddy and Faber
3rd fastest Forward: Point
5 players who exceeded 23 mph for skating speed (Raymond's top speed was 22.90)
4 of the top 50 (and ties) goal scorers

Line combination analysis:
Nyquist helped his line mates last year to career years, he should help Hertl return to the 30-goal level.
The 4th line is big (avg 6'4"/216) and fast
Chinakhov's 82-goal pace=24. His skating speed and shot speed are both exceptional. He should breakout in 24/25.

D analysis:
Anderson is one of the league's most reliable D. Faber's rookie season was quite similar to Adam Fox's 21-year-old season.
Ty Emberson was top 5 in hits/per/game. While 30 games is a small sample size for a 2nd pairing D, he is paired with a veteran who logged 22 minutes per game. Also, Knoblauch appears ready to use him on the 2nd pair as Edmonton seeks to return to the finals.
Maatta provide a steadying presence for Spence.

Leddy is great when you feel like watching the other team establish a good, long cycle.

Leddy is great when you feel like watching the other team establish a good, long cycle.
Or when you want to outscore the other team's best line. The past two seasons (according to Puck IQ) Leddy has gf% of 59.3 and 60.5 against elite competition. That is in 160 games, so not really a small sample size.

Some players change the effectiveness of their opponents--i.e. their skill is not fully captured by underlying numbers--due to one or two high level traits. Romanov is an example--his possession numbers don't look great but his gf% is strong. It seems obvious that his physicality makes opponents feel they have a split-second less time and therefore on-ice execution doesn't mirror possession metrics. Leddy's speed creates the same difference between the other team "controlling" the puck and actually scoring more.

Leddy has a 40.2 DFF% against Elites while holding a 60.5 GF%.

He also has a 50.8 DFF% against Gritensity while holding a 42.4 GF%.

Apparently his speed isn't effective against bad players.

Leddy is excellent at retrieving the puck. He is not excellent at breaking an established cycle.

Leddy was not my top choice for 2nd LD--but that is a long story. I also think he isn't a 1 LD, even though he is deployed that way and has been by multiple NHL coaches.

You are implying that Leddy is not a capable defender. Numbers help to tell stories, but it takes many numbers. One of the things he needs help with from a partner is defending an established cycle. Emberson could be (I freely admit small sample size) a perfect partner. Emberson combines excellent positional defending with a willingness to be physical--just the ticket to disrupt a cycle.

The GF% against 3rd/4th liners likely has as much to do with the Blues' gritensity forwards not scoring as Leddy being on for GA as he had excellent GA/60 with <40% oZS.

I can understand why some would argue that the 2nd D pairing is the weakest part of the Humpbacks. If that is true, Leddy's overall impact means the team is a great postion.

I believe that my team was voted against due to bias against Ed. I’d like to change my team name and revote.
