This is the problem having animals. They usually have a lot less in numbers of years than us. I've been through a number of cats and dogs and they all have their own personalities and it always rips me apart when their time comes. The every day attachment can make a bond between the person and the animal that is stronger than to most other humans even friends and close relatives sometimes if they're not that much in your day to day life.

There really isn't that much to say. Losing someone really close whether a person or an animal is as hard as anything I've been through and is something that has to be endured and takes time to get over. There really isn't any way to avoid that.......so you have my sympathy.
Thank You! Sadly, loss of those closest to our hearts is something we all deal with eventually, I’ve endured the loss of pets and family before but this is hitting me harder and I think it’s because of that bond you alluded to, he’s there for me and I’m there for him everyday and getting over that will be the hardest part!

Not ready to throw in the towel yet though, he’s fighting and I’m fighting to do all we can!

Here's a picture of my Clyde that I mentioned earlier:

He was a very handsome boy and he was lucky to have you! Thank you again for sharing!

A little update on Prince:

He has stage 2 kidney disease and we’re following a plan laid out by the vet to get him back to wanting to eat and get him back to feeling more like himself

Prescription kidney diet, subcutaneous fluids, an appetite stimulant etc

We don’t quit, we overcome!

Thank you all so much!

I had to do the hardest thing I’ve ever done today and say goodbye to my cat Prince, I’m heartbroken and devastated

To everyone here who liked my previous posts about him and/or took the time to respond with something supportive, thank you so much!

Goodnight Sweet Prince! All the moments we shared together will last a lifetime!

Thank you! This one really hurts for sure!
I understand. When I miss my dad a lot I think of something I read that helps me.

It says death is nothing at all. I have only slipped in to the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other we still are. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you. Somewhere very near. Right around the corner. All is well.

I'm so sorry. It's the worst thing about owning a pet. You bond for important years of your life. Just this morning we lost Mitchell, our pet chinchilla. We got him at 6 months old. He was 17 years old. It's always tough.

RIP Prince, RIP Mitchell

Thanks so much, it hasn’t even been a week yet but it feels like an eternity! I’m really sorry to hear about your own loss!

RIP Mitchell

It's never easy. Stay strong.
Thank you! I’m trying my best!

Fed Reserve cut 50 basis points. Sounds like they may be going another 50 basis points in Nov. They seem to feel they may be a bit late to the party with unemployment going up. Time will tell.

I was gutted when I lost my cat and companion of 18 years, Puma. He only ever wanted to be in my lap. He didn’t want anyone else in the household. I understand the pain. It hurts less and less over time but there will always be a little hole in my heart that will never be filled again.

We shared pictures of our pets a few years ago in a thread. Was proud to show him off Puma was a male calico cat which is very rare.

I am sending you comfort and support. Eventually you will see how lucky you were to have each other.

Hugs amigo.

Thank you for sharing, the circumstances suck but it’s been nice interacting about something outside of hockey that gives a little more insight into who people are!

Today marks a week since Prince left my life, I know it’s going to take a long time to start feeling better but bringing home his ashes so he can rest peacefully and be near by was a good first step, I still open the window for him every morning where he loved to sit and watch/listen to the birds but now I will place his box there too as sort of a way to connect with him in spirit!

You all have been so kind to me, I can’t say thank you enough for all the support I’ve received! It means a lot!

I really respect how close you were. You mentioned the box of ashes and listening to the birds. Would planting a new plant with a small portion of his ashes be something to consider? It would be kind of like giving him a new form of life to enjoy the sun & birds.

This is something I will deeply consider doing, thank you for the suggestion! I’ve just been trying to keep the same routine we had everyday, even make the bed up with the pillows the way he liked them where he would lay in the sun and sleep after his morning window time, it’s kind of cathartic and makes me feel still connected to him. I know it may seem like a little much to some but he gave me reason to wake up and face the day even when I really didn’t want to so I feel like it’s the least I can do to honor him!

It does not seem like a little too much to me. There is no right or wrong way to deal with situations like this. You do what works for you.
