Lucic on TSN interview says basically the only reason he signed with Edmonton was to be able to play with McDavid (whether on his line or not).

I'm sure the money helped haha.

The top available free agent just signed with the Oilers. Let that sink in to the rest of the teams and you can add Sekera from last season too!! LOOCH saying on TSN a special young player there and getting a chance to play with McDavid is hard too pass up.

It's amazing how one person can say "3 years and then he falls off a cliff" and then everyone just runs with it. Can't count how many times someone on mains has said something to this degree.

The guy barely misses any games. He isn't made of glass.

lmao lucic admits it was all about mcdavid!!! hey it is what it is, wlecome!

Well, why do you think anybody has signed with the defending Stanley Cup champions for the last 10 years?

It's not that awesome Pittsburgh night-life.

I think we had to add the 7th year at 6M to finalize the deal.

You think so?

Ladd got 7 years, seems like 7 years is what it took and is what was agreed upon before Hall was dealt as was speculated by everyone that the Oilers offered the most term from the start.

Okposo got 7 years as well.

Whatever.

Had to happen after the Hall trade, our cap situation is fluid right now. Even going into the McDavid extension, we have like 3 other guys signed past 18-19 and an open book.

We can stomache the bad contract, but make no mistake, it IS a bad contract.
Is it a bad contract though?

People keep citing players like Lucic fall off a cliff by the time they're 31, 32 like Mike Richards and Dustin Brown, but those players are 6' or under and around 200 lbs. They had speed and lost it.

Lucic has never been fast, and he's a god damn 6'4", 230 lbs monster. He has far less wear and tear on him due to his frame than smaller players who play like him.

My bet is he'll age like Keith Tkachuk.

Not a surprise at all.

Love the player but the term is absolute garbage. This player will be a serious boat anchor for the last 2-3 years of this contract.

The Oilers window to win is now 3-4 years.

Because of one signing?

Yes, it's a bad contract. Both money and term are inflated - beyond the usual UFA even.

That was to be expected, though. Milan Lucic has been one of, if not the, most fetishized player in the league.

You may have a point. Lots of 6 and 7 year deals getting tossed around atm.

So Lucic and Brouwer both are signed until they are 34. Would you rather have a tweener like Brouwer or a dominant unique talent like Lucic?

I know what I am picking. Very happy with the signing.

As a Leafs fan just saying congrats guys. Love what Lucic will bring to the attitude of the Oilers, doubt anybody's going to try to take any kind of shot at McDavid with Lucic looming around. Wonder how he'll hold up the last 2 years but who cares when you can still hopefully enjoy the next 5.

Cool to see Lucic protect the saviour.
