Slowly getting on the Schaefer train

Guhle Reinbacher
Hutson Scheafer

Laine Dach Cauf
Demi Suz Slaf

BOOM
No way they would waste Schaefer on the 2nd pair and as a RD. He is the closest thing to #1 LD as you can get.

Most likely (IMO) and this is assuming no trade or free agents.

Schaefer - Reinbacher
Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Xhekaj/Barron/Engstrom/Struble

The imbalance is making my eyes bleed. We can’t win with a low quality right side like that. Look at the Sabres, they have that kind of setup.

Not against Schaefer but with that setup it doesn’t work, IMO.

It does not matter if its the 1st pairing or 2nd pairing, its more about the fwd and D match, i prefer my offensive D with my best 2way C

If you like more

Demi Suz Slaf
Hutson/Schaefer or vice versa

Laine Dach Cauf
Guhle Rein

I think Hutson will be better than Mailloux in our zone and i dont see a future for Mailloux on our D

Schaefer looks great and he plays LD.
My bad i thought he was a RD

For those watching Misa, what's changed since last year, as I didn't find him to be very impressive when watching Beck's games.

He's been moved to center. He was playing wing last year. He just has a lot more room to manuvre. He reminds me of a Necas/Nylander type. He's far more willing to shoot, though.

Drafting schaeffer means Guhle will be a forever RD. It would be stupid to runhave Hutson on third paid LD if not.

Our defence has enough youth in it and Reinbacher/Mailloux aint event there yet. We need good RD veterans. Like Andersson.

Guhle-Andersson
Hutson-Parayko? Something like that
Xhekaj-Reinbacher(to ease him into lineup)

Therefor, i’m against drafting Schaeffer even though he looks good. Get us a big top dogs on our top6.

Montreal would need to at least draft top 2 to get Schaefer. It's doubtful we're last in the league by end of year. Yes, we're currently tied for 32nd with 3 other teams, but we're also 3 pts out of 10th spot with 2 games in hand. Lol

The bottom of standings are extremely tight. There are 7 teams either tied with or within 2 pts of Montreal.

It's entirely possible Montreal drafts in 8-12 range.

Drafting Schaefer gives you a potential elite 1 LD making us potentially move Guhle perhaps for a young 2C

I think Guhle has the value to get us such a return

For one, Hutson will be over Guhle by the time they are completely developed. For two, if we have three grsat LD, you trade one. You draft BPA. Full stop.

Our defence has enough youth in it and Reinbacher/Mailloux aint event there yet. We need good RD veterans. Like Andersson.

The point is not about having enough youth in it, but filling our talent bank. You deal with the rest with trades. Not only this, but our D is central to our rebuild because that's where we lacked the most talent. That's where we have to inject the most talent.

Our winger bank is by far our most completed component ffs. We have Demi, Slaf, Cole, Laine, Newhook and Dach if he fails as a center. 6 guys to fill 4 roles. Our biggest needs are Centers and Dmen. And even then, it's simple, you take the best value available and you trade later on. Passing on Schaefer, if he is BPA, is how you fail at a rebuild.

Laine won’t be here long term, Newhook ain’t top 6 player, Dach still question mark, Caufiel on a championship team is on a second line.

Its weak.

Shaeffer will be a LOT better than Guhle..and Reinbacher.

It would be a lot more stupid to draft Martone..... 3 wingers in 4 years in a rebuilt..l

Shaeffer is in a class by himself for the Habs.....a real first defenseman.

Then Misa..a center

Dach has question marks as a center, but he's definitely top 6. You ommit to mention Slaf and Demidov because it doesn't fit the narrative you poorly built. Caufield on exploitation duty is just as important as who you put on your top line in the playoffs. Your argument about Caufield brings nothing to the conversation because it pretends we don't have someone to take his place on the top line. We do, his name is Ivan Demidov.

Wingers are a strenght compared to what we have at center and on defense.

Salivating over Andersson won't magically make it happen. With the limited amount of top 4 RD in the league, teams will be lining up to acquire him. Pinning your hopes on a miraculous acquisition is not how you build a team. Drafting for need is not how you build a team either.

As for Laine, if he doesn't stay, he'll probably bank us another 1st pick, which will be used to fill up our bank, but Dach could easily be our 4th (out of 4) top 6 winger.
