Last I checked goalies get paid to stop the puck..not be the 3rd defenceman. If they can do it...good...but it's not a deciding factor on how good a goalie is
Dominik Hasek called....he'd like a word with you. Tyler Parsons was one of the most athletic goaltenders to ever wear a Knights uniform...guess he gave up a lot of bad rebounds.
The new hybrid pads make it very difficult to dictate where the puck will go on a save. Everything is so lightweight today nothing just hits and sticks anymore
Hasek is a unicorn, lets get silly and compare him to anyone.
Parsons, yes very athletic, but also a very aggressive goalie. He attacked angles a lot more then you would traditionally see, which sometimes certainly lead to those big athletic split saves.
You can't blame rebounds on equipment. If that was the case, every goalie with the same equipment would struggle with rebounds, which simply is not the case. Its not about hit and stick, its about direction. A slight adjustment to the angle of the bad can leave a rebound in the slot or in the corner, nothing to do with the equipment its self.
I'm not saying he was bad, I just think for him to continue his development, this is something to continue to work on. I actually thought he played a really good game, I am just expanding on some of the critical points of other posters.
The video below, may not be the best example because its a push from the corner and those are very hard to control rebounds on, just because of timing. But it is a rebound directly back into the slot, which then leads to him having to make a desperation, athletic save. Elite goalies, are very good at directing these away, which makes them look boring. But boring is good, if the puck is staying out of the net.
