I'd say the Knights "juan" that trade. Only Saginaw/Barrie collude more frequently but then again those trades seem mutually beneficial.
Go get a seasoned tender Mark. Gaudreau over Simpson but that's just my preference.
Probably get the Barrie OA goalie for even less

You have one open OA spot but could justify upgrading on the other two spots currently filled. I wouldn’t look at that situation and assume only one OA will be added through the deadline. If they want a goalie and a forward, I don’t see any reason why both cannot be OAs.

There are whispers that Beck has requested a trade out of Ottawa. Other whispers suggest the deal to London is waiting on him getting sent back to the OHL from Carolina Hurricanes camp. Ottawa may also have OA goalie Donoso up for grabs provided they can source a good backup to replace him in another deal. Maybe Beck and Donoso in a deal?

That would mean 1 of our overages would have to go. Like donoso but know nothing about beck

Beck was on the radar for Team Canada last year for the world Juniors. Attended the summer camp. Got injured around game 10 and missed a bunch of time.

Decent scorer. Well over a point per game the last two seasons. Good leader and very good on the defensive side. He can score goals when out in the position of being the trigger guy. Last year he was more the digger/setup guy.

He’s a top line winger. If he were to remain in Ottawa and stay healthy and play the full season, I’d expect 90+ points and 40 goals.

That would be solid. We need two top 6 forwards. Anyone else from Ottawa would be of interest to the Knights? Mark might want to one stop shop

I’d say Beck would be a very good addition… both Becks would be Even better lol

That’s likely all Ottawa is looking to move right now. With Horner and Sirman out long term, they likely aren’t moving any D-Men for the next while. I haven’t heard of them looking to move any other forwards.

The “other” Beck will cost a boat load. I think Petes would want a 2023 1st in that deal. Unfortunately, London doesn’t have that piece. You gotta think the Petes would exhaust all options before they’d look at a London offer seriously.

I doubt the Petes would make a trade like that for both Michael Simpson and Owen Beck. They will not accept a 18 year old forward with almost no OHL experience. They may take the goaltender. There is no way they will ever agree to only one, 2nd and two, 3rd and a 5th round draft picks for both. In my opinion they would want one of London’s good young forwards and either a either a goaltender or a defenceman plus at least two or three 2nd round and two or three 3rd round draft picks for both players (five picks in total).
I doubt the Pete’s make that trade either. But I also doubt the Hunters send anywhere near that return for Beck and Simpson.

It cost the Rangers a 2nd and 6th for the prior OHL champion starting goalie. That’s the ballpark you should see for Simpson. Maybe that 6th is elevated a little.

With that in mind, the remainder of your proposed worth on the deal is attributed to Beck. That’s not too far off what 1.5 years of Beck cost the Pete’s last year. They’ll get a strong return for him, but for 0.5 years of Beck, I’d be surprised if the Pete’s get close to what they gave up to get him a year ago.

Overage upgrades may be the cost effective way for London to improve their club this year. They don’t have an 06 first to dangle. No 07 first to dangle. Limited pick capital in the 2nds and 3rds range from 2023-27 (right now). Several 4ths and 5ths but you can’t just trade with Niagara all the time.

I don’t see overagers McCue or MacKinnon going anywhere. McCue is their only physical presence on forward who can play on any line. MacKinnon is a decent 5/6 who has played in PK roles and top 4 roles in a pinch. Dale likes him. I think his skillset is limited and could be upgraded if a championship is the goal.

London arguably need to try to win this year given the (expected) graduations from this year to next year. It is very early but history would suggest you cannot count on a first rounder, Cowan/Bonk, to return in a D+2 year. Halttunen will leave. That leaves three 04’s for next year and very little in the way of 05’s and 06’s (depending on the steps O’Reilly and Nicholl take).

The more I think about it, the more I think London’s best chances to win were last year and maybe this year. Question is how do they acquire talent this year with limited tradeable assets. Maybe they will just stand pat and keep the development of internal players rolling. I would be okay with that because there is a lot of faith in the organization. Want to see O’Reilly and Nicholl get their chances to produce in the top 9.

Sorry for the long wind.
I don’t know why the expectation is that Haltunnen is leaving after this season. Unless he tears it up this season, his performance prior to this season hasn’t suggested an ability to play in the AHL as a 19 year old. Bonk and Cowan aren’t really threats to make the NHL as 19 year olds.

The only real concern is that Dickinson makes the NHL. Losing George and Edward will hurt, but beyond that most of the team should be returning.

I don’t think Dickinson does tbh… I’m not worried

Mesar didn’t do much of anything last year in Kitchener to indicate he’s above this league this year, yet he’s slated to start in Laval this year as a 19 year old.

Halttunen WILL tear it up this year! Playing a full season with Barks and Cowboy, how can he not?! :D

Also, even though I expect a big season from Dickinson, it's awfully tough for a defenseman to make the NHL as an 18-year-old.....highly unlikely.

Our top 6 should get an injection…. Let’s just say it’s Beck

Barkey-Cowan-Halttunnen
Gazizov-Julien-Beck

Not bad… still would love Rehkopf, but highly highly doubt he’s available!

O.Beck will very likely net the equivalent of an ‘07-1st, 2-2nds, 3-3rds. There is a lot to his game; great speed and puck handling, good shot, hits very hard, possibly the top defensive player in the league, without a doubt best at face-offs; and WJC & OHL champion.

This is exciting !

To part with three OHL Final play-offs experience players and one young promising goal scorer, Mark & co have to have a plan for the future. It's for us fans to play the guessing game and this is where our fun begins, I think we're in for a treat this year.
"Go get'em Mark !"

I’d be willing to make a friendly wager that 2 of Bonk/Cowan/Halttunen are in the NHL/AHL/Europe in 24/25.

You should check how few 19 year olds play in the NHL each season—especially those taken in the back half of the first round.

Unless Cowan has a Wyatt Johnston-like 18 year old season, he’ll be back next season. Defenceman like Bonk need their full eligibility in juniors to develop their offensive confidence.

Not to diminish their talents, but they both should be back in the OHL, which is the case for all but the elite CHL prospects.

Haltunnen could go to the AHL, but he had a rough season against men, and San Jose probably wants an environment where he can reach his offensive potential. I know someone brought up Mesar, but Kitchener really dropped the ball last season on his development, which probably led to Montreal wanting to have greater control over his development. Dale and Mark’s track record speaks for itself. Teams won’t be worried about them mishandling important development seasons (which is why SJ signed him explicitly to go to London).

I would love to know what’s going on in the room. They obviously cleared space cause something else is going to happen… I would assume soon? But we know Beck will be at least mid October….

No disputing the player. I just have a hard time seeing the Petes getting back everything they gave up to get him, for half the service time. That’s all.

No doubt… all depends if there is a bidding war. Mark might enter it just to drive the prices up
