For whatever reason (weak drafting, less F/A or US conversions or the COVID years) we have not enjoyed the benefits of trading off our excess assets for 2nd to 4th round picks like previous seasons. These picks are what allow us to add at the deadline without sacrificing our core roster development. Of course this also allows us to avoid the dreaded down years like Sarnia, Kitchener, Windsor may be facing this season after an all or nothing (mostly nothing) season.
So with yet again a large attendance of invitee’s do you or any others see potential trade bait at all? This is in my mind what sets Mark apart from all of the rest of his colleagues. Cheers …. “Drop the damn puck already”!

EDIT: it’s actually one of a long list of things that sets him apart from his colleagues! LOL 😆
Might not be as solid as the hey days but they did move Keane, Gilmartin, Bujold, Panwar, Rowe, Rolofs....and more in recent years.
Ya 1st rd drafting has had a few Oops, but most teams do drafting consistently late. Hit n miss. If we go back to just before Bouchard I'd say average with their 1st rd picks at those spots. A coupke bad ones for sure.
Still think they get value for kids that can be back filled and give them ops elsewhere.
And they tend to acquire higher rnds picks in return then they give up ( just a guess )
I don't recall them getting much for players that they don't play first.
This year's FAs....no idea, outta the loop gor a couple years but I trust they move extra bodies ( A D n a F is my guess for a few picks by Nov. )

The U18 draft removes 40-50 potential FA 17 yr olds per year. For a while, all the best FA signed with London

In terms of giving opportunities to kids the U18 draft has really done that

Accurate post imo. I haven’t been that enamoured with London’s drafting for years. It’s ok. Always feel they go a little too heavy on D with limited ceilings in the early rounds.

Trading comes in to play. Large investment in Dickinson is a unique opportunity to acquire elite talent that you normally wouldn’t have a chance at. Helps make up for draft misses, bad luck. Other trades help with teams overpaying for specific players. Roger, Rowe, Keane come to mind, as you mentioned.
Can they do the same with HB this year and set the D up for the foreseeable future?

Sure, trade for ‘07 HB. Then trade George, Edward, …for enough picks to acquire A.Young from Saginaw Jan. 1
Might be a good move. Dickinson and Bonk could carry the load if needed

Ludwinski?
But I’m not sure he is available; and, London does not have a disposable 2006-07 1st to compete with the best offers.
London will likely have to offer up one of O’Reilly or Nicholl to land the one of the top players. So in theory not having an 07 to offer isn’t the worst situation.

If that’s the case then that’s the way it is

Leonard just ran over Nicholl he left the ice looked like a heavy hit hope Nicholl is okay

Edit Nicholl could be out a while he came to the stands to sit and said he dislocated his shoulder he is in a sling. Not good

I would prefer Beck over Ludwinski. Ludwinski hasn’t been the same without Shane Wright. Still very good, but Beck is the better playoff guy.

Thing is if William Nichol and Sam O’Rielly take the steps like Cowan and Bonk did, we don’t need much come trade deadline. Maybe goaltending, but that’s it.
