Bad enough Rangers fans are laughing at us. You want the ridicule of Oilers fans, too?
For the sake of the Jets, you better not be. We're paper thin at that position this year. I have little faith in Niku, Buff is only getting older, and Chariot is very good at what he does, but he's limited. We have Morrissey, who MUST take it to yet another level this year for us to make the playoffs.I certainly hope I am proven wrong.
If Stanley’s ceiling is a bottom pairing defender and he was drafted at the end of the first round, then he commands even less value than Puljujarvi.
I wouldn’t do that deal but I think that’s what it would take to get it done, with all the speculation here about what he’d cost.
Perfect description. As Garret has noted, Stanley is best viewed as an offensive defenseman, and he needs to develop his defensive game. He has good vision, passes well, and he's got a very good shot. If he improves his foot-speed enough and learns how to use his reach and strength in the D zone he might be a decent NHLer.Stanley didn't look out of place. He's quite decent with the puck on his stick. His foot speed in the d-zone is an issue. He's smarter than Myers, but has less tools. I dunno why we drafted him in the first round based on his assets. You can tell he thinks the games pretty well, so lets hope for the best.
A dman at 21 isnt officially a bust. I think he has a up hill climb. I didnt have high Hope's for him when we picked him, but he is a jet and seems to be a decent kid so I'm holding out hope.
If we are having this conversation when he is 25 yeah. Remember poolman is 25.
I can see why some people wanted to draft him high, still a silly risk to do it in the first round. He is also much more intimidating than Myers. Myers seems kinda wimpy, Stanley has that, 'are you sure you want to f*** with me?' thing going...Perfect description. Yah, Stanley is much more Chara than Myers. Chara benefits from a lot of leeway from the refs that Stanley won't get as young player, so he'll need to curb his aggressiveness accordingly. But he is miserable to play against around the net and in the corners.I can see why some people wanted to draft him high, still a silly risk to do it in the first round. I could never understand why Stanley got so much hate on this board ... all because one person did not like the pick and the rest followed like sheep.
I have not seem him play so I'm not going to pretend to say he is good or bad but I sure am hoping he makes a lot of people eat crow.
sure dude. Who is it we followed? What does that make you? hah, that's really f***ing hilarious...I could never understand why Stanley got so much hate on this board ... all because one person did not like the pick and the rest followed like sheep.

I guess that would depend on he actually plays. I went to 1 Moose game late in the season and I focused almost exclusively on Stanley when he was on the ice and he was pretty damn impressive. He gave me every impression he wasn't that far away. Then you listen to the Vincent interview where he talks about leaning hard on Stanley later in the season and how well he handled big minutes. Again I will say if any one of our lesser but more liked prospects just had the exact same season Stanley had in the AHL we would be debating if this was the year he would take the next step to the NHL, but we would all expect him to be a NHL player sooner rather than later.2 more years minimum in the AHL would be ideal. If he is playing full-time in 2020 it likely means Chevy has not done a good job at finding adequate replacements for the likes of Myers and Trouba.
Hey Briscodog, I was trying to remember who said they spent some time talking to Stanley at a golf tourny. In your post you said something about a team telling him they were going to draft him in the 1st round. Do you mind re-sharing what he said to save searching back.Talking to Logan at last weeks golf tourney. He talked about playing some preseason games with Buff last year and how easy it was to play with him. I could see that pairing getting a long look in TC.
Yup, the Chara dream is still alive. Chara didn't really blossom till his 24-25 year old season, though he was playing (modestly) in the NHL at 21.Yah, Stanley is much more Chara than Myers.
