What do you think the holdup is in Heinola getting a contract...he should get a one way contract...Niku did. Any chance he asks to be traded?

Jets playing hardball wanting him to sign the regular 2 year @ 1 million contract.

Heinola probably wants to bet on himself and sign a 1 year @ 1 mill….

Injury and the Jets b4 the injury have been holding this prized race horse back.

If Heinola did not get hurt and put up a monster year on his last year of his ELC ….. he would be signing for more right now.

He made the jets out of training camp and was playing great hockey….

I’m looking for Big things from Heinola this year !!!!

I think he’s sitting on two deals right now. A one year 775k deal and a two year 1M deal.

That’s a good guess. The kid has no leverage coming out of His ELC. Take the 2 X $1M and concentrate on establishing yourself as an NHL defensemen. Big year for him.
Maybe he’s pulling a Rutgerfucya :sarcasm:

I really don't know what to expect from him. The Jets timing of contracts where the Jets re-sign Miller and Stanley, then sign Fleury and Coughlan means he's going to have some pressure put on him by some big men for playing time, the latter 2 have reps with Chynoweth...maybe he sees a better opportunity elsewhere...his agent made some noise about being traded when he was in the A...This is one I am watching, along with Lundmark, to see what kind of contracts the Jets give or don't give. 1 year, million or less, show us what you are made of kid.

No idea what the Jets have seen in Stanley for the past 8 years. He is slow and awkward. he screens the goalie. He takes bad penalties. He can't even fight.

When is Jets management going to trade him away, and let one of the prospects take his spot?
This question is asked in every single GDT of the season. No point asking the question in here, responses will be the same.

The reason Stanley is played as much as he is likely stems from this thread title: he signed his contract.

Remember before this he asked for a trade? I suspect Chevy made a deal where Stanley would get playing time if Stanley signed, and Arniel has no choice.

Same reason why Wheeler got so much top 6 time towards the end. Handshake agreement.

This is just my speculation of course, but it's the only reason that makes sense.

I'm hoping to see more of Stan. Outside of a near catastrophic 3rd he's been playing very well the past few weeks.

I want to see where it leads. Maybe he's playing above his head right now or maybe he's finally starting to get it.

His past stretch of games with Pionk (last night excluded) have been the best of his career

His GF% and xGF% are among the top compared to other Jets D

His outlets have been great and his puck movement in the O zone has been good too

At times he struggles to defend, especially when he's flat footed. His work in front of the net and on the PK needs to improve

Sorry for the objectivity of this post. I know that's something that isn't encouraged on here

If the Jets would realize his strength is from his own blue line in there might be some reason for hope but we've also seen this before at the end of last year. Once the playoffs hit the Avs fed him his lunch.

Never. He's here until he's UFA at least.
Keeping him has cost them Chisholm and Kovacevic with nothing back in return. Both of those guys are better and cost less.
The one thing that management/coaches have actually articulated they like him for, his penalty killing, he's terrible at.

Stan is definitely bleeding a lot of PK goals this year. More than in years past. I don't know if it's because he is a giant that he's afraid of blocking out Helle's vision, that's he's trying to play outside his sightlines, but you'd expect a big guy to absorb a lot of shots on the PK. Like Samberg and Fleury. Does that come back to skating?

For the last 1000th time, Stanley had nothing to do with losing Kovacevic. The org bringing Schmidt in was what did it (at the time they made that decision, Kova had 45 AHL games and zero NHL games). Kova and Stanley don't play the same position FFS. Neither one had any time on their off side

Chisholm is no better than Stanley

Yeah his PK has been bad. But 5v5 (which is what I'm told REALLY matters) he's been strong. The numbers back that up

I think we've seen enough to know that Stanley's pretty much at his ceiling. He's played about 170 NHL games and though he's moving the puck more consistently he's still very slow to react and is a step behind NHL pace when he doesn't have the puck. As a result, he doesn't close out plays in the D zone and then gets caught out of position. His height and awkwardness get exploited on the PK as opponents find easy passing and shooting lanes through and around him (a huge contrast with Samberg, who is top-end at closing puck lanes). On the rush, teams are increasingly attacking his side of the ice because he tends to sag to avoid getting "turnstiled". Beyond that, he is too loose with his stick and is near the top of the NHL in the rate of minor penalties taken.

He fights on occasion, but hasn't become a very intimidating force in that department or around the net. So I don't see the value proposition.

I think he's maybe a 7-8D on a good team, with not much higher a ceiling. At this point I think Fleury offers more value, especially against fast teams. I just don't have confidence that Stanley can handle the pace as games get faster and harder and opponents are very strong.

The other point I would make is that effective NHL D rely on consistency. Stanley hasn't shown that, even within games. Maybe that's what the coaches are hoping to see, a consistent performance at his top level. But contenders can't afford to have a D that falls to pieces the way Stanley did last night, and in the Avs series.

Fluery and Ville are simply more skilled LD players. You could say Stan is more physical than them, but is he really? Maybe a little but he's not exactly intimidating to anyone out there. And he just gets brutal penalties at the worst times. He literally cost us game 3 last year with his series of 3rd period penalties in a game we were leading.

Ville has only played 15 games in 2 seasons from that nightmare injury, he's only getting better, and is already better at moving the puck and closing gaps. I'd rather take the chance on him, maybe he doesn't develop... Not a big deal.

Fluery has always been better than Stan.

I wonder what the internal conversation is with management

Fair enough. This is the time to do it when we have built up so many points. Lets see what we have in everyone for that matter.

I really watched him last night and he was painfully slow. Didn't win many (if any) races to pucks when dumped in and the opposition just has him spinning when they are forechecking. It was pretty painful to watch. But if he can learn to adjust.......

Hi strength is eating popcorn in the press box. What NHL D-man strength does he have. Mobil? nope. Block shot's? Nope, Clear front of net? Nope, Win board battles? Nope. No when to pinch? Nope. Can fight? Meh. he is a 7-8 NHL Dman at best. He gets turned around all the time, case in point the Marchessault play, then he gets 4 for trying to make him eat his stick... Best strength is up in the PB. enough already.
