Different times back then. Google was not around and lots of stories would be tossed under the rug, only to resurface years later. Some would do it out of spite to tarnish someone's reputation, while other's were simply sailing through life never being held accountable for their past indiscretions until it was time they paid up. Bottom line, your reputation matters. Think twice.

Kassian, who had a prior assault charge, crashed a car into a tree while intoxicated and somehow a young woman was accused for being under the influence. Heatley killed his fellow teammate. Richards was arrested with oxycodone at the border, and was allowed to play again. Not to mention the Bertuzzi incident. The NHL wants to clear its image. Second chances are a thing of the past.

Wasn't Kassian the passenger in the crash into th tree that he was involved in? I think the thing that pissed MB off was that he put himself in that situation by being intoxicate and with intoxicated people at 4am in the morning and his injuries left the team with a hole at forward that it was too late to fill.

Both illegal
sex crimes are in a different realm than substance abuse, especially during the me too era, i.e. after they were largely swept under the rug for so many years in sports and entertainment.

This kind of stuff was normal not too long ago. There's a reason there's a backlash going on now.

Cocaine possession is illegal and a felony in the States that can lead to 3yrs in jail.

Showing a picture to your buddies (not spreading the pics on social media) of a woman performing a sex act is in bad taste, and illegal but in no way are you doing jail time.

In the end they are both wrong and should not be tolerated but one player has to jump through multiple hoops while the other is just business as usual.

I don’t like it

Fair enough for your opinion. But Kuznetsov had to face some kind of sanction. I don't recall what it was. I think he was injured at the time and went to substance abuse counseling.

Also Mailloux used social media to share it with his buddies, and it ended up getting out further than he wanted it to - which is one of the Rangers on posting anything online.

And these are the ones that got caught. If the NHL dove into the past of players prior to making it to the NHL,they would find a lot of skeletons in the closet.

The NHL virtue signaling is laughable, Bettman has no virtue to give.

He is the Comish of a violent sport, one that still allows fighting. Fighting that has led to numerous former enforcers killing themselves due to CTE. Bettman was on watch during the Hawks scandal. Just this last week a player had his wrist cut, one was slashed in the face, and had his wrist broken.

Maybe it's time we cancel Gary?

Also, Logan will be cleared to play 100%.

Ryan O'Reilly was shit-faced drunk and crashed his truck through a Tim Horton's restaurant while people were inside and he fled the scene. His expensive lawyer got him off from a DUI charge on a technicality. No charges whatsoever. The NHL didn't suspend him for a single game.

Good ol' Canadian boy and captain of an NHL team.

The NHL is so full of shit with their double standard punishments. They also registered the Mitchell Miller contract last week and then Bettman said the Bruins didn't consult with him.

The nhl can f*** off with their arbitrary bullshit what more can he do than he already is.
The NHL saw what happened to Hockey Canada's sponsorship base. It needs its sacrificial lambs. That's why God created lawyers. If the NHL acted arbitrarily, it's actionable. If I'm acting for them the warning letter would have already been delivered: putting them on notice that you can't pick and choose who you’re going to come down on. Talk about putting yourself into a pickle: they are damned if they do or they don't. And, like all businesses, they will take the path of least resistance. Mailloux will be given clearance to play. You can bet on it.

Do you think Bettman personally approves each contract? Or talks to each team about the prospective moves?

Some people are getting worried over nothing. Mailloux will have a list to things he has done since the court case above and beyond court ordered stuff. If I was Mailloux I would make sure I did right by the victim if it hasn't been done yet. That would be the only hang up I could see.

no kidding. Comparing cocaine and a pic of boobs lol. My buddy used to chaperone the Oiler's and then the Penguins on road trips. He would line up activities for the players wives and injured players travelling with the team. The stories he had, from Messier to Mario the nastiness that would occur... from unreal. So for all these players claiming the 'new generation' is broken, its just not true. I wish he would write a book of his adventures, great fireside stories.

The issue is that, if they start coming down on guy coming in to the league when you have player that have don’t worst… there is a few guy.

Can the NHL really keep this guy out or void is is contract because the is pass issue.

If yes, than what will happen with all the WJC players for the 2 incidents or player that might have had legal issue DUI/domestic disputes in the past, will they now be deem ineligible until the NHL clear them to play.

I actually don't know if they legally can since he was a minor.

Maybe not surprising to some, but I didn't expect that.

The most important word there is "currently". He's not perma banned. It just means NHL is going to give him some hoops to jump through in order to play at that level, and maybe even the AHL will too. I imagine the AHL leadership will want to interview Mailloux before he can play in that league.

I have full confidence in Mailloux to represent himself well in any interviews. I also expect he'll be able to come up with letters of recommendations from volunteer groups that he's worked with over the last 2 years, and show the work that he's done to grow as a person.

If the AHL/NHL do their due diligence faithfully, and if Mailloux has put in the work that he said he has then things should go well for him.

This is just media factored hysteria. There's certain elements in the media who will never let this drop, who don't care if a person has gone through restorative justice, and should be given a second chance, they just want to get clicks/likes.

The OHL approved him to play based on several conditions after their investigation. I expect the same to happen with AHL and NHL.

The overkill now days is too much in some instances.
I don't condone poor behavior and some I can't get passed.
I am confident that Logan Mailloux has paid his dues in a big way and he will be able to play at the pro levels.

Some thuggery in very recent years has been ignored and now all of a sudden there is zero tolerance?
Athletes are not choir boys at times and I hope the league doesn't go overboard.

This is obviously because of the Bruins and the Miller situation. Or else, the NHL wouldn't consider this in the case of Mailloux.

After the Bruins signed Miller, the league immediately took a stance. Mailloux signed his ELC in a little over month ago. They didn't make a comment about that then. They only make their comment now because of Boston and Miller.

However, Mailloux has taken the necessary steps on and off the ice every step of the way He served his penance in the OHL when they suspended up for half the season. So if the NHL decides he needs to be approved by the league, he will do what is necessary to get the green light.

Also, unlike the Bruins, the Habs did their due diligence before they signed Mailloux. They had him spend most of the summer in Montreal with players and members of the organization, as well as be with the guys at rookie camp and then main camp so they can see for themselves the type of person he is and the progress he's made.

Whereas Boston simply signed the player. They didn't spend months learning about what type of person he's become. They even spoke to their leadership group and they said not to sign him. And then you have their President of Hockey Ops come out and does a dog and pony show.

The Habs did their work before everything. Boston did their work after everything.

What a load of garbage!
Omg! You've got to be kidding me! How far back should they go? Maybe Gally pulled a girl's hair in grade 8? Better suspend him!
After working on his issues they now throw this at Mailloux when he's just starting his season? What a joke.

No doubt similar skeletons would be found in the past of members of the NHL’s management team. As the good book says: ‘Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.’ And we aren’t talking about Mark Stone.

Too bad the Miller fiasco has spilled over to our guy.

While Logan was older when he did this, and it was an awful thing to do, I suggest the 2 cases are very different and suggest has been handled by both our guy and the team much better than the Miller case.

Give it some time to get .distance between this Miller blow up, and the Habs will go to Bettman and let Bettman guide things as to what he wants to see how this moves forward. Very controlled , not like the Bruins tossing a lit torch onto 500 pounds of fireworks.
