Right after we drafted him, I said this feels like the Caufield draft where a real talent fell into our lap because teams passed on him.

Some posters said this feels nothing like the Caufield pick because of what he did. I said he Committed a crime that needs to be taken seriously, but from a hockey stand point, it feels like the Caufield pick.

I'm glad we drafted him. He can also serve as an example, a teaching moment, for youth to take social media seriously regarding privacy and sexual matters. While his crime was serious, it doesn't have to define him going forward. People make mistakes, especially in their youth.
It isn’t like caufield because no one had Mailloux rank lower than 35th, Caufield was a top 10 all almost every list.

I don't care about lists, I'm talking about talent.

Not sure if those lists took into account his crime, but many teams had him on their no draft list, so impossible to know where he would have been on their lists otherwise.

Just checking, but when we say Mailloux committed a crime, was it a civil charge with a fine, or a criminal charge leading to a criminal record. I don't think it was a criminal charge?

Just asking because having a criminal record would likely create a whole bunch of trouble travelling across the border between US and Canadian matchups...

Should we be saying offence instead of crime?

Criminal. But he was charged as a minor in another country.

Well you know what they say; If you don't shoot the shots that you take...
This kid’s on ice dominance is only starting. As he gains more and more actual game conditioning (after his largely two year hiatus due to suspension and injury) his developmental trajectory will accelerate.

Report from London tonight.

Logan with an apple. Took a stupid penalty. Great forward skater and on his edges.
Got beat several times wide by opposing players and got absolutely undressed by Musty. Has a really hard slapper and is always looking for the opportunity to score. Offensive extincts. Although a good skater he needs to work on transitioning while on D. When guys were goi g wide they were by him and he was playing catch up several times.

Musty was the best player on the ice I thought. Dangerous when he has the puck. Very shifty. Goyette wasn't bad either.

Also, Alex Pharand stood out. Checked and see he is a 2023. Worth watching that kid as a second rounder.

really sounds like this thread is talking about another prospect, not Logan Mailloux lol

This thread hasn’t ignored his glaring defensive mistakes. Most agreed that it’s too early to come to a conclusion since those can be corrected. Especially for a 19 years old kid who played a total of 22 OHL games. Like the tweet says, he is quite the project, as his offensive ceiling is quite high.

He will most likely spend another year in the OHL, and then Laval. Like many have said, he can learn not to be a liability at the very least.

Good thing our youngsters at D are looking good and we have plenty of cap space in the upcoming seasons. It will incite Hughes to be more patient with his development.

Its instructive to note that in London’s last game, when trying to protect a one goal lead, Hunter played Mailloux 4 out of the last 5 minutes.

🤣
hey, i saw 22 minutes of that kid that only played 22 games in the junior league and i can tell you that ; that guy is " Brutal parting gift all around from Timmins and Bergevin."
Of course he could be brutal sometimes, we all know this; you said it , he only played 22 games on 2 seasons . Anything !

That isn't a massive problem? Guys with less glaring problems than Mailloux have 200+ OHL games before they make the jump to pro and they still can't pull it off. He was a mid 2nd round talent playing in 3rd tier Swedish junior when he was drafted, and played about 20 games since. His trajectory is blown to pieces, I don't even know how some can consider him an NHL level prospect at this point.

I don't care about his mistakes, when you see a player like that, it's fantastic. This guy is a 6"3 RD with high offensive ability.

If the guy who post his mistake on twitter said that he isn't a good prospect, he don't know his hockey. Seriously, Mailloux is a top talent and we need to focus on his mistakes and not his fantastic offensive potential who can become a perfect partner to Kaiden Guhle?!?!

Sometimes people are just born to bash...

Lol gill was awesome.

He looked like a giant canoe 5 one 3 when he would lay down. For whatever reasom gill played his best hockey late in his career which happened to be in Montreal.
When you’re 6’ 8” and are laying down on the ice you can effectively take away the cross crease pass and just let Price handle the shots from the perimeter. Truth be told, Gill was as mobile laying down on the ice as he was standing erect on his skates.

Clearly he is gifted but he is a Dman, so pivoting and skating backward need to improve because if he doesn’t he will be the next Beaulieu… Yes he was injured and suspended you can’t work on some stuff but he could still work on skating.
