Nowhere land
I can’t stand it when politicos of any stripe try to score points by lambasting pro sports figures or management as if they all had a monopoly on good morals and flawless decision-making. Don’t they have more worldly pursuits to attend to?

What the politicos don’t get is how many of us are immersing ourselves into pro sports not just out of passion or entertainment but to flee them and their divisive, self-centered spiel.

Politicos, please go away. There are other sandboxes where you can prop your “brand”. You don’t need to infect every refuge.
Exactly, can't write it better, you are a better writer than me in english. Let our refuge stay a refuge.

Bingo. Kids today do not think ahead to the consequences of their actions . Once you click send there is no back tracking. I watched this kid play JR B in London and a limited bit before injury last year. We as Habs fans will be very lucky to have his talent on the team. If not and the new regime trades him we will regret that move. I counselled young offenders at the jail here in London. I had one kid at 15 stab his brother 17 times to death because he drank the last beer with no remorse. His parents fought to have his case in Juvenile Court and won. His record was wiped when he turned 18 and he walked. Here we are punishing a kid who made a very stupid mistake as a minor. Sending a picture of a girl performing consensual oral sex on him 3 days after he arrived in Sweden to his team. He could have skirted things as a young offender but chose to belly up to the bar, plead guilty, apologize and own everything. I am 70 years old and have seen a lot of crap in my time and have watched my kids and grandkids grow up. Today's kids are a different breed. I am am pulling for this kid. Hell Trudeau criticized the pick and the sob has done just as bad of racist shit as an adult. When you point the finger at somebody 3 come back! Go Logan Go!
Great post imo. He’s got mad skills though. He’s got the skills, size and speed to play like a wrecking ball. I’m a big fan of his game, he’s raw and his positioning needs work for sure, but the raw skills are very very very dominant imo.

Exactly! All this talk about him missing so much time blah blah, yes that's true, but how about the fact that when he actually got a chance to play in the OHL he looked dominant? At this point the sky is the limit for him. We are lucky to have him as a prospect. I think he's got a real chance to be special.
I do too Hanky.

I think it was smart of the habs not to sign him. Let him play another year and see what you actually have in him as a player considering he has missed so much time.

If progress isn’t there or you chose not to sign him, we do get a compensatory pick in the second round I believe. Wouldn’t be so bad to get a second and put this whole fiasco behind us

I always got the feeling that the Habs acted out of a mix of self interest and smarts.

They had a hot potato on their hands so awarding a contract too early may have been misconstrued, leading to yet more damage control with a faction of the fan base.

In the absence of an outright parting of ways, best course is to let time do its thing.

I think that only applies when a 1st round player chooses not to sign with tue team that drafted him.

Already there, Mailloux got his bona fide offer last June. If the Habs want a compensatory pick they just need to do nothing until June 1st 2023.

The outrage at the pick to me was just too rich. It was a shitty thing to do and I'm completely behind him working on that aspect and the Habs making good will gestures to make amends.

But the pearl clutching was too much especially because I knew no one would truly put their money where their mouth was and disown him or the Habs. If you're that outraged then do something concrete about it. If he becomes a good/great player for us then who's really gonna stay mad? I'll applaud those who do who actually stand up for their convictions but otherwise it's pretty empty virtue signalling.

Again, not saying he wasn't worthy of criticism but many people acted like we just drafted a convicted pedophile. It was silly.

Unless it's changed, you have to offer the prospect a contract and they have to refuse it. If he refuses it, then you just double the selection number and that's the pick you get.
Apparently we already made him a bonafide ELC offer

RIGHTS EXPIRE, CLAIM COMPENSATORY PICK

Now that the Montreal Canadiens have presented Mailloux with a Bona Fide Offer, the Montreal Canadiens must sign Mailloux before June 1, 2023, at 5 pm. Should they decide against it, they will lose his rights and Mailloux would simply go back into the draft for another club to select him. However, because a Bona Fide Offer was made before June 1, 2022, the Montreal Canadiens wouldn’t walk out of such an unfortunate situation empty-handed, as they would be awarded the 63rd overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft.

I need to be updated on his situation. How’s his injury and what’s the plan for him this coming season? He was killing it before he got injured at least points wise. How was his D game before he got injured?

Stay woke. Montreal will look stupid when he makes the NHL with a team that believes in growth and maturity. I hope he wins the Norris

The pick was bad, indefensible even. If the player turns out better than the pick that’ll be a credit to the player and good fortune. Doesn’t change the fact the pick was a bad choice.
So you’re saying that no matter how good the player turns out, it will still always have been a bad choice?
I don’t think many would agree with you on that one.

They've had him around the team and the organization quite a bit this off-season.. so they clearly believe in growth as if they were going to relinquish his rights regardless, they wouldn't have even brought him to the draft.

His offensive game has the potential to be a stud. His defensive game is erratic and he’s often out of position and unsure of what to do. The good news is the kid has immense skill and physical attributes and will be able to cover a lot of his shortfalls with brute force imo. I think this kid is going to shock many. Assuming the missed time hasn’t set him back too far already. He looks like a man amongst boys on many nights.

I'm no expert, but I see a little of Brent Burns in him.

So are you saying that if he hadn’t got into trouble they’d go this route? Sorry I just find it a bit confusing I don’t see any benefit. There could be lots of reasons to have him around though for sure. Get to know him in case he comes up into any trade talks management can hopefully give good news although I wouldn’t trade him

He’s a much better skater than Burns. Burns is bigger and stronger and while both have excellent shots, when Mailloux fills out, his shot will be more lethal.

I think that’s a pretty good comparable. I think he Maillioux is the better skater.
Maybe I need to see more of Maillioux, but Burns is (was) an great skater. Not even for a big guy, just truly among the best.

Hence as to why he shouldn’t be part of any trade scenario over the coming months. There’s a lot to like under the hood and he has nowhere to go but up.

agreed. Let him play hockey. I think he will surprise many. I sure hope we don't pull another McDonagh or Sergatchev with Mailloux. He could be big right D that replaces Weber.

I’m no expert but the little I’ve seen of Mailloux, he looks like a better skater than Weber but he doesn’t have Weber’s ability to fight (I’m not trying to say it’s necessary only that he differs from Weber that way). He has a big shot like Weber, but don’t know if he has Weber’s mean streak (maybe if someone knows better, they might chime in).

Most in here have suggested that Ghule comes closest to Weber — he’s a scrapper like Weber and has a mean streak.

Regardless, doesn’t mean Mailloux can’t be a beast in his own right.
