That's a quite different scenario, in this case the kid is asking every team to not draft him and in your example he's asking specific teams...it's quite literally all or nothing vs I want to be a UFA before I eve get drafted.

Are you being obtuse on purpose or do you not understand that?

It doesn't work that way with the CBA, players cannot opt out of drafts like they do in the NBA or NFL. They are either eligible to be drafted or not.

I don't want to get into if he should have been or not as this would derail the thread, as the mods stated they only want hockey talk.

That is what you took out of that?
Licou : That is not what is happening at all...

Non-hockey incidents. Kassian totaled a Ford Truck, I think he was passenger with 2 women, was partying but told not to. Habs missed a presence like his on the ice. Mailloux has strong potential to be a top-4 workhorse defenseman, but he paid his dues since he was sentendced and had to do his counseling thing. Habs have a tendency to be politically correct and trade guys for stuff, like they did with Chelios. Nothing new for the Sainte Flanelle. Parting ways with strong personalities since 1993... 1995.

edit : sorry for double posting.

I still think Molson will force them to trade him, but he'll give them time to do it.

He doesn't want this PR problem in his yard for years.

Hopefully we get something good in return.

Nobody cares. Twitter is not a real place. Look up the details of what he actually did.

Hockey Canada is covering up a Rape. Now that's actually f**** up

You misunderstood me. I didn't take a stand one way or another, I only predicted that MOLSON will want him traded.

You say nobody cares, but that's not what I saw in the petrified and repenting face of Molson when his sponsors came out in the medias.

They were not going to let him go. Not gonna happen. Not with what he can maybe be. But most importantly, what we left behind for him.

I think Molson should not follow Ronald Corey's path who forced his dg's to trade guys like Roy, Corson, Chelios and Carbonneau... just for the "image". Pretty sure mailloux has done way less than Corson and Chelios. Too bad for him, social medias and cell phones exist today.

Molson launched a program and invested 1-million dollars in it following the backlash in order to help educate about these kinds of things.

I'm not saying they won't sign him. And they may end up trading him. But I think Molson and the Canadiens have made an investment both monetarily and in effort. So that could be a sign that they are not simply giving up on the kid.

Even Chantal Machabée, when asked about Mailloux after she was hired by the Habs, said she would never give up on a 18-year old kid.

I hope his immature actions are behind him and that people give this kid a chance.
There are NHLers making millions who have done far worse and are idolized. Past and present.
And possibly few guys who were on that Canada Junior team who raped a young woman.

It varies, though. I think they overvalued Corson a bit. They admitted that they traded Chelios because they thought his career would be short due to knee problems. The Carbonneau thing was dumb. Roy was the one who demanded a trade.

A lot of the trades under Corey were to save money and the public justifications were dumb and dishonest. Sort of like the expos owners mocking Larry Walker so they wouldn't have to pay his salary when they let the team leave and ran with the money.

The media won't let up and even some fans. Everyone wants to be a hero and attack, attack, attack where they are waiting for him to say or do something wrong again. They want to be the 1st to report it type BS.

I wish some people would get the same treatment done towards them with their mistakes. Many people in this world who are hypocrites and would expect to be left alone if they ever made a judgement error.

If I was in charge, he wouldn’t face the media. No need for that

I would take the other approach. Face it head on cause some will not put it in the past and it it still a topic of discussion that lingers on.

He might need some training on how to handle the media and answer questions properly though. That's the job of his agent to prepare him. Avoiding it? Not sure that works.

Seriously. Posting exactly where he'll be?. (not you). Just invites all the nuts to go there with signs. Why would someone post that?

I think its part of the process to showup the change he has made in his life. So far He better man up now.. cause he will have to do it over and over again for a couple of years anyways.
I think it's brilliant. If done right, it will improve his image and the organization's. He's in a situation where he can't remain quiet and out of the spotlight. The smartest thing to do is have him do public speaking. That'll go a long way. Turn some bad into good.

I actually kinda want him to be in front of the cameras a bit TBH, it's the fastest way to desensitize people in general to him. If they see him answer questions and talk about the stuff he's been doing, they'll realize that he's literally just some prospect trying to make it like any other pro athlete. It will take the whole ''intrigue'' part of it right away and make him a lot more boring to the media folks.
