I would have had more faith in this if there was a traditional camp followed with preseason games so the players could start to learn the systems implemented by Carlyle et al.
With the short camp I think most teams (even the good ones) will be capable of the odd gong show for the first month

Expect Kulemin and Grabovski to have a good year after playing in the KHL.

I expect Kulemin to be better, but having them back to 10-11 form, their best to date, only ensured a 21st place finish. Call me sceptical with this bunch.

Kessel will have to be as good as last year along with Lupul, Dion will probably be better with half a season of wear and tear less to his body and mind. But then again Chara will too.

Reimer is the key, if he fails, then this team will be neck and neck with COL and EDM for the Seth Jones lottery, one can only hope.

It's funny guys. I've been a Caps and Leafs fan since 1982 and found my interest waning last year. After this crap, I have no drive/heart/motivation to watch any games this season.

I'm just going to follow box scores and standings on my tablet and your insights on this board since the majority of you guys will be watching the games.

how can you say this, i'm pissed at the loss of games this season but i will still watch every game available to me.

Only thing I disagree with is that it's the Nathan McKinnon :P

Theres an outside chance we trade for Luongo. Overall you're correct, we need Kessel-Lupul magic, and Grabo-Kulemin magic.

Hopefully our system works.

Sounds like my two boys. I brainwashed the oldest to be a Leaf fan but the youngest doesn't really care about hockey. Where did I go wrong?

You've failed your family. I kid, it happens. Maybe take him to a game some time and he'll get in to it?

Coaching.

Spott says it doesn't make any difference.

I think it does.

In the end a ton of blame to be directed at both sides.

I hope the damage to the game is extensive and the fanbases in the already crappy U.S. money losing markets disappear and the NHL and the NHLPA are faced with contraction.

Leaf fans in the GTA however like laundry being taken to the cleaners will once again line up as usual to fork over their hard earned dollars to MLSE in support of a team that hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1967. Good luck with that.

In the real world the NHL lockout in the U.S. has been nothing more than a who gives a rats ass annoyance to Americans who can't even stand ice hockey to begin with. I would now love to see people right across the league stand up and give these greedy basterds the NHL & the NHLPA the royal middle finger salute!

Fail!

When you second best D man is concussed, and he was your 3rd best D man on the Marlies prior to injury, you can understand my excitement in adding Seth Jones to our lineup with God's help.

Just a rumour at this point, but some say we should expect to see Kessel roll into camp in the worst shape of his career. We're talking Wellwood levels.

So another career year? Wellwood seemed to play better when he didn't focus so much on fitness. Heck, even Schenn was a reasonable defender before he started his program.

Better not give up the farm for Luongo, I wanted to do Grabo for him before the season in Aug, but now I am afraid Luongo would give us a false chance of making the playoffs and we end up drafting 10th. With Grabo I know we are at least assured a top 5 pick, so let's keep him and put him on a line with Kessel and Lupul so we indeed be assured to tank.

This is a worry from the perspective Carlyle will rush Rielly into a losing line up. Burke said it's up to him, a change from he would prefer junior players get some AHL seasoning. Lord knows we have seen enough Schenn's to not learn our lesson now.

Enough with the half a$$ed squeaking into the playoffs, damned our prospect quick fixes. Target Jones, Mackinnon or Drouin. Add them to Rielly and we will see how bright our future is then, and if you cannot see how much brighter the Leafs future is with 2 of these prospects in our line up in the near future, then you my Leafs fan comrade(not you Fenton specifically but Leafs fans in general), are in for a world of whirlpool hurt.

Rielly is not Schenn. If a player is ready to be in the NHL, then they should be in the NHL. You don't play them in an inferior league just because.

As to squeaking into the playoffs.. What position did the Cup champs get in as?

The goal is to win, not target #1 picks a la Edmonton

As long as he can skate in a straight line and take a shot, we'll be fine.

I actually respect that more than all the media getting people's hopes up for months.

I think if I was going to trade for Luongo, i'd need to know that the team who signed the long term deal is stuck with the cap hit after and such, if so then i'd probably give up:

Bozak (nice little 2nd line replacement for Kesler while he recovers), Franson, and probably 3rd rounder, if I had to go up to a 2nd, I would consider it but I don't want to give up the farm.

I'd also need to get Lambo and Komisarek bought out or shipped out.

Wellwood was a fat plug though. Kessel is an elite fat player.

I bet this story comes from people saying Kessel is fat, and assuming with extra time off, all he did was eat and watch tv.
