The good thing is that if they have another set-back, there's no more wiggle room. Which means no more mindless CBA updates. The next step would be to cancel the season.

PA wants 65 million, league wants 60 million

once again it's the owners moving on issues

greedy players

i think it was 64.3 million

Pretty effective strategy from Fehr. Dig into a position and stall until the league caves and then just whine that they aren't being reasonable the entire time.

No word from either side though. Just Nick Kypreos.

Doesn't sound all that promising.

Of course neither side is talking at the moment as they are in meetings and speaking out could derail things. Just because they are not speaking out (which is perfectly reasonable) is no reason to say it does not look promising.

sportsnet update: the nhl and nhlpa are now meeting in the same room

omg they are in the same room :5:

Is this the same meeting that was going on earlier today or did they break into separate groups and then get together again?

last time the were together was a few days ago
the mediator was going between two rooms til now

No, they were in the same room earlier today (I watched a couple of live reports on Sportsnet talking about this). So what I am wondering is if this is that same meeting (ie. it has been going on for 3-4 hours now) or if they met, split into their own groups, and then got together again.

"A lot" is way too objective. Tell me that 14 of the 16 issues are worked out, and they're currently working on issue X and Y, and it's a different matter. It seems like when "the big three" issues are settled, more issues of contention we haven't heard of before are creeping up to become major roadblocks. At this point, it's more of a question of what they (PA) will whine about tomorrow.

We've heard that "we're close to a deal" too many times already.

The issues that are really pressing are division of revenues (and all the accounting interstices that go along with that), contract rights (and all the accounting interstices that go along with that), pensions (and all the accounting interstices that go along with that), and many other minute issues that surround the league.

I agree. We have heard it too many times. So why should we all believe it this time when we've heard it from these same "insiders" all too many times before?

The issue is that for the PA, it's never been about "what do we need to make this work", but more about "let's see how much more we can squeeze out of the owners" before Fehr finally agrees to an offer (on the last day of the deadline).

I have no doubt that NHL has a very detailed plan on how the figures they're arguing over will affect their business. They're fairly well aware how how each concession will effect the bottom line.

And so does Fehr.

Problem is you are only looking at this from one side of the table and lacking empathy from the other side.

Donald Fehr has been through this exact same dispute with the MLB on multiple occasions and knows exactly what he is doing and how to do math and accounting.

If he thought there was a deal to make on behalf of his constituency, he would have done it by now.

If Bettman thought there was a deal to make on behalf of his constituency, he would have done it by now.

The problem is that the owners know they are billionaires and that the players are millionaires and that is the only wind they have left in their sail.

If the players (all of them, not just the millionaires, but the short-term contracts too) continue to vote to disclaim, this indicates there is no discord in union resolve.

deal done tommorow
book it

I'll take a bet on that.

The media are taking you guys on a ride. They're making things sound closer than they are. They want you to keep tuning into coverage of analysts talking about nothing.

Amazing how we can disagree so harshly in one topic but agree in another.

I turn the channel watching guys on the streets on New York talking about the same things OVER AND OVER.

They want us to keep tuning in. It's like they're dangling a carrot infront of us with some "Positive News". Truth is, both sides have a lot of issues to work out.

Nick Kyrpeos is a joke. Anyone follow his tweets? He guaranteed us last month hockey would star right before Christmas.

Sportsnet claims the two sides sitting in a room is "BREAKING NEWS". Give me a break!

LOL, Bob treats Kipper like a lower-class citizen, every time he's on the show. Kypreos is not bright enough to hold a conversation that involves comprehension and reasoning, and has the tendency to put his foot in his mouth. He can't even get the best of Millard/MacLean most of the time, nevermind Bobcat.
Bob Mcgowan is a piece of garbage of a person. The worst"analyst" you can have
