What This Means for You:
Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.
In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server20 teams in the playoffs? How could they make that work?
Darren Dreger: "a deal is close''.
Knew it from the beginning that it was going to be a last minute deal.. Way too much at stake.
The playoff format is great the way it is and I hope they don't change it
20 teams in the playoffs? How could they make that work?
They want 20 teams in the playoffs to increase revenues. I think it's a pretty bad idea. What could happen is the revenues already made by 16 teams will get diluted and they'll be back at square one with longer playoffs and less global interest. They should concentrate on making money while playing 82 games in the scrap markets. The playoffs are perfect the way they are played.
They can get the same revenue increase by going from 82 game seasons to 85 game seasons or so.
I mean let's work out the maths.
Say best of five playoffs (average of four games) between teams 7,8,9,10 in each conference. 2 series per conference, 4 series overall, so 16 games added to the total calendar.
Actually, seems like you can get the same revenue increase by going from 82 game seasons to 83 game seasons; maybe 84 games if playoff games bring in twice the revenue of regular season games. This would also be more efficient in that it would only add two days to the hockey calendar.
Howard Bloom (of CTV or CTV sports) keeps insisting there will be an NHL season (he's pretty much guaranteeing one! says the NHL should start on Jan. 19).
(take this with a grain of salt but just felt like sharing!).

A couple of encouraging details: #NHL has agreed to two compliance buyouts/team in 2013-14; and variance on contracts in 20% range now
Great news!
I'm getting excited/optimistic here. All signs are pointing to a season starting up on the 19th, and that would be great. I still wouldn't buy any tickets this year, but if someone wants to take me to a game for free, I wouldn't turn it down.
Also, if they do come to an agreement soon, waiting until the 19th will be so difficult!
i know this is going too far because theres no agreement yet but if theres a deal will there be preseason games or just 7 days of camps and then regular season?
Gomez good as gone?Beat me to it!

Another detail emerging: NHL has upped its compliance buyout offer to 2 per team, up from 1 prior to 2013-14 season.

Seems like a no-brainer. Who would MB use the 2nd on?

I'd honestly drop Bourque. He deserves to have a second look after his bad season, but 4 years is just too much for a player like him.
Over Kaberle?
