They can't and everyone involved knows this..

That is the reason why in other sports when PA's went down this potential route the Owners came crawling back to the negotiating table and a deal was soon finalized thereafter..

NHL Owners know its in their best interest to allow Bettman to give his 4th and final take it or leave it offer with less take-backs, as that is better than the consequences of free market enterprise and 800 UFA players suddenly hitting the market in a free for all feeding frenzy.

This Fehr lead tactic is designed purposely to get the Owners back to the table in hopes that a successful CBA can be reached.

At this point...honestly, just kill the season and spend the next few months getting it right. If that means firing these 2 little fighting girls who are supposed to be the best at what they do...so be it. I am tired of all the BS....it is a true embarassment to a game built be legends.

What is wrong with a basketball guy arguing with a baseball guy about hockey?

As Leaf fans we would likely benefit if the current CBA was scrapped and the result was a league wide free agent frenzy without the restrictions of a salary cap. The small market teams be damned. :D

That's one way to look at it. But on the other hand, they've both been immersed in hockey for a long time now and if they still don't get it, well that's our loss as the fans.

It could either go really well and all those players who claimed to 'love the Leafs as kids and it was their dream to play for them one day' will come home or really bad and be embarrassing when no big name wants to sign here.

Maybe each franchise should be legislated to spend exactly 50% of their HRR on their own players salaries.

Just using the Forbes numbers, the Leafs would have to spend about 100M in players salaries. Guess where everyone will want to play? You might as well just eliminate the cap because the effect will be the same, lol.

That's the whole point.

I'm sorry but we didn't win a cup in the previous 50 years that we could out spend the opposition - what makes you think its gonna work this time around?

Still its quite sad that this franchise can't even compete when the playing field is levelled. Perhaps we should lobby for a new rule that visiting teams may only dress 4 defensemen when playing The Maple Leafs at home?

It's not 50 yet.

There hasn't been a point in time when the Leafs could litterally go after whoever they wanted.

Just to be clear, I'm completely against decertification, it would deal a huge blow to hockey and could ruin it forever.

I hope all the NHLPA supporters here PVR'd HC@Noon today.

Mike McCann Legal Analyst for Sports Illustrated said the NHLPA will have a long costly drawn out court battle if they initiate any anti-trust lawsuits against the NHL - would likely have a dissapointing outcome for the NHLPA. And he was referring also to any court actions they make take with regards to this weeks PA vote.

As i said earlier in the thread..."good luck with that one boys!".

That's the great thing about law, it isn't a science.

Love the idea. Simple yet brilliant. Or they can scrap the cap altogether. That works too. Why do I care as a fan of the wealthiest team in hockey if the play hockey in Glendale, Arizona or Dallas, Texas for that matter. I don't and neither should any other Leaf fan. Fold em up boys.....take the show on the road. Or just fold em up.

That's the absolutely nightmare scenario for most players.

You'll have Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos each making 20 mil/year playing for Habs/Wings/Leafs respectively, 300 more players making close to what they're making now, and the remaining 400 players would be earning what an average accountant earns, or else be forced to subject themselves to the horrors of riding the bus in Russia's Winnipeg like Lupul.

That's the whole point. I don't care if we lost 10 teams in this league. If a team like Phoenix is barely surviving with the league paying its losses to go to the conference finals, it should be taken out back and shot.

There's no economic system that can create a level playing field between the likes of Toronto and the poor cousins in this league, just like the Montreal Expos had no place in a league with the New York Yankees. I don't care about those teams, the cities which those franchises belong to don't care.

Caring about those terrible businesses just basically ruined it for everyone else.

Man U wins almost every year. Just saying.
Ignorant

99-00 Man U
00-01 Arsenal
01-02 Man U
02-03 Arsenal
03-04 Arsenal
04-05 Chelsea
05-06 Chelsea
06-07 Man U
07-08 Man U
08-09 Man U
09-10 Chelsea
10-11 Man U
11-12 Man City

The past 3 years have been 3 different champions and in the decade 5 in total.

If you actually knew the history of English football, you'd know that before 92 Man U wasn't even the closest to what they are today. Arsenal,Liverpool,Everton and Aston Villa had more league titles than they did.

Kind of the way it should be actually. I'd rather $16 million go to Steven Stamkos for doing what he does to create excitement in the league than to see Ville Leino make $6 million this year. That is absolutely fair.

People who support the owners in this lockout support the sunbelt franchises and are basically anti-canadian and anti-leafs wrt hockey.

Thats the way I see it.

No Leafs fans should be siding with the owners.

That's like someone who's broke as **** voting Conservative.

you can't be serious? The 2 have no correlation what so ever...

I was totally on the players side to start this off, but they lost me a long time ago with their bs proposals and refusals to meet prior to the first meeting in August or Sept. when it was.

They players say they had a ****** CBA and got ripped apart on the last CBA right? So why did they want to keep this CBA going? And why have they earned more money now than ever?

at some point, when greed takes over, you look like a fool. The players are looking like fools now and thats where I draw the line. Sign the dam CBA make your money and move on and play hockey. Your losing more money not playing, then what you think your losing.

Revenues would have been up to 5 Billion, and now they are lucky if it's at 2 Billion lol They are complete fools... BOTH SIDES

split the difference down the middle and get this done.
6 years 8 on your team
6 year CBA 2 Year option

and the next CBA must be negotiated 1 year before the ending of the CBA. An agreement must be reached by September 1st or they season is cancelled. This way they are not posturing for months waiting for a deadline which ruins the season...

Yeah and the owners aren't using BS offers and refusals either? Please.

As a Leafs fan, you should be asking yourself one thing and one thing only:

Does free market competition benefit us or not, being the richest and most powerful single franchise?

I agree with the post, But Man United won in 02-03 also, And Arsenal won in 01-02.
