Dubas literally got sucked punched in the face in regards to how these two performed after basically doing everything to ensure they had everything they needed to succeed.

Ya. In all honesty he is the one who gets f***ed in all of this. He's put a tremendous amount of faith in these 2 players, which is completely understandable given their talent level. They have not returned the favor at all. Sure people can sit here and poo poo Dubas' and say well he shouldn't have that much faith in Mitch and Auston. to those folk, give your heads a shake. Mitch and Auston were the superstars KD inherited. He had to explore their potentials. He has surrounded them with an unbelievable supporting cast despite handing them the world. There is no more room for these dog shit excuses in my mind.

I've watched the Matthews interview and I'd have to say I'm a bit upset with him TBH. Lots of dumb f***ing smirks as if this is typical Toronto media making a mountain out of a mole hill. Zero signs of recognition to the magnitude of failure. He's my favorite player in the league, but his mannerisms are appalling right now. Your GM put his f***ing neck on the line, mortgaged more than half the 2021 draft capital, scoured across the globe to get league minimum NHL talent, acquired roster depth at every position to withstand a long run including 3 NHL caliber goalies, and this is your response? It's more than a joke at this point.

I wish this was just typical Toronto media shit. It's not. It's perpetual failure, and lack of accountability. Really would not be upset for a complete retool. I know these guys will go onward to have amazing individual careers and maybe have team success. I never count out a pro athlete, they get to where they are for a reason. I just don't think Mitch and Auston have what it takes to handle the pressure in Toronto. It takes a completely different level of focus and accountability that I think neither one of them have. They both work extremely hard, but they can't handle the pressure. Which is why they nervously laugh at these hard questions. I know they will never strip the car down and restart, but 3 years down the line I suspect we will look back on this time and see the missed opportunity.

That was the case for the players. I would not be so sure it will be the same for Dubas and Keefe this time around.

Dubas certainly did not look happy in Game 7. He looked pissed. Now he may still keep it clean for the Press but behind closed doors, I can't imagine he is satisfied with the team, and especially the core guys, screwing him over again.

Hate to say it but I'm starting to like this guys attitude less and less. I know he cant come out and say he wants his friend and linemate traded but to sit back and think we can just keep to the status quo is the most beta attitude. Its the main reason we are where we are. This fan base is dying for a WINNER...but hey atleast Mitch gets the boys buzzing pregame.

Good post! I'm going to give AM a little bit of a pass because everyone knew MM was looking to pass and has no shot. So they focus on AM. But in the big games when the season is on the line, they show nothing. No fire, no burning desire to win - they seem to care more about being buddies.
I'm surprised with Keefe too - PP has sucked for a long time and Mitch had zero PP goals all season. But he kept giving him the most ice time on the team and didn't make adjustments

like i said. it's not the first time he's responded like that. and people are already applauding him and going "But what if the Avs said that about MacKinnon! What if the Caps said that about OVI!"

If Matthews/Marner performed like Mackinnon/Ovi in the playoffs, Winnipeg would be in town.

It is frustrating because I know Mitch and Auston want to get better, and win. I'm just really questioning if they have what it takes to put the demons behind them. The skeletons in their closet are overflowing at this point. I just don't know how they can overcome this in this market. Part of me feels for them in a way, because by all accounts they do work hard on their crafts, and it clearly shows in the regular season with them constantly getting better. But f*** we don't need anything more in that regard. We need them to go to a phycologist. They crumble at the mere thought of their past failures. There was no mention of it when the Leafs were up 3-1 in the series, but the second MTL scored the first goal in game 5 you could see the defeat in their eyes. They knew just how possible failure was in between the ears. Yet the reality of the situation was they still had the series by the balls. MTL gave us every opportunity to win. they were f***ing bad for 5 games. And they didn't have enough to beat that. how ware they going to beat Boston and TB???? I just don't see it unfortunately. Great players, tremendously talented. Just mental midgets

Nope. I don't feel bad for them in the slightest. I feel bad for people like Spezza that actually made sacrifices.

If you negotiate the way those two did, you lose all empathy when the going gets tough. Don't want that extra pressure? Then bloody well sign a fair contract.

Matthews and Marner deserve all the shit they been taking for there on ice performance, but to give Matthews shit for sticking my marners side is called being a good teammate.
