Ottawa Reddit and Twitter has been wild over the last day, since the list of convoy donations was published. People have compiled the names and identified employers. The progression has been something to see:

1) Twitter finds out that Emily Segal of Ottawa donated $200
2) Turns out that Emily Segal is married to David Segal, the founder of Davids Tea
3) Twitter says Davids Tea must be boycotted!!
4) Davids Tea is forced to tweet out that David Segal has not been affiliated with the company since 2016!!!
5) But Twitter finds out that David Segal also owns Mad Radish and Firebelly Tea, which he co-founded with Harley Finkelstein, COO of Shopify!!!!
6) Twitter calls out Shopify for tacitly supporting White Supremacy!!!!!

Wild!
Your first mistake was to read Twitter. Spare your sanity!

I don't follow Twitter so I'll take your word for it

Imho we've arrived at the point where freedom of thought and speech is only applicable if you have the right thoughts and say the right things.

Any expressed thoughts a few clicks right of far left is asking for it. And that's getting dangerous for society.

And to stay on topic...Geez I hope they clear the convoy soon :)

Okay, I think I understand you now.

I don’t actually give two shits about the federal liberals, clearly you do.

We be done here, there is simply no point.
Your post clearly shifts blame away from the Feds, while placing a ton of blame on the province. This makes no sense as this is an OPS issue that was fully bungled. Please explain why you feel the province declaring a State of emergency was a pre-requisite to the Feds getting involved. Dropping the Emergenies Act is like trying to fish with TNT. This Act should never be used so cavalierly and reeks of politics. There are plenty of tools available to deal with this without going to such an extreme.

I wouldn't say getting dangerous, I would say it's full blown totalitarian. It is absolutely dumbfounding Trudeau did what he did, but not surprising at all.

When these people are challenged in any way, this is how they'll act.

I won't be surprised if he then pulls a tiennemen square massacre next.

We don't have to hypothesize what would happen if the cause of this protest was something Trudeau approves of. The regime would be promoting it.

It went from a fringe group of truckers to martial law real quick.

Even if you do not approve of the truckers, no group is safe from this type of behavior if they want to protest.

No. It went from Fringe group of truckers to a foreign backed, economy wrecking, politically motivated, lemming convention.

Real quick? Uh isn’t it been 3 weeks that the capital city has been taken in hostage?

I’m against violence and certainly hope it doesn’t come to that but at the same time, the whole situation looks really bad for Canada. It shows that it’s kinda easy to put the country democracy in shambles. I don’t think it would have happened like that in many other countries, like people taking a hothub in the street just like that

Anyway, considering it was always the plan to lift up measures and go back to normal, this whole thing is pretty stupid and clearly really isn’t just about the pandemic measures. Like it has been speculated at first, it’s pushed by the far right extremists

Don't take this the wrong way, but as you seem to be an American (my apologies if you're not), there is a main forum on this topic that might be more appropriate place for you to voice your very impassioned views on Canadian politics and the Canadian Prime Minister.

Give me a break. A fundraiser raised money for them because people believe in what they're doing. A large swath of people. It's not like a foreign government is funding them, they are a bunch of individuals. This is how democracy works. If you don't like something you protest. Canadians were donating to the BLM protests in America too that killed about 50 people and did billions in damage.

Just think about the truckers demands, they want to go back to normal. That's literally what they're protesting for.

So what does Trudeau do..declares martial law and can seize anyone's bank account for any reason whatsoever.

Why do right-leaning Americans compare everything to BLM? It's referenced in like every fifth post on the Fox News comment boards.

In your opinion does fox and the fox News comment board represent everyone who leans right?

There is no denying that OPS bungled this from the beginning, but to defend Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies act is dumbfounding. This is nothing more than Trudeau making excuses as to why he didn’t act sooner. All 3 levels of government have dropped the ball but only 1 level of government id suspending the rights of citizens in order to deflect their ineptitude.

Could not agree with you more. I do not remember the reasoning behind the hiring of the now departed OPS chief back in 2019….. but I suspect that our progressive mayor and or the progressive police board decided that hiring a chief of police would be a good opportunity to virtue signal to the electorate…. And did not choose based on merit, but on progressive ideology of equity, inclusion and diversity…. And when you don’t hire based on merit, you end up with someone who is not up to the task when it is needed……

As for our progressive mayor, it took someone with common sense to get him to do the right thing, after weeks of insulting and smearing the Canadians protesting in his city.

Dean French, the former chief of staff to Ontario Premier Doug Ford, was the catalyst that sparked the negotiations that saw trucks leave residential areas in Ottawa, and consolidate on Wellington. Imagine that…. Talking with the protesters…. Something they were asking for all along….. our PM fled the city, and hid under his bed in Gatineau park…. Claiming he was exposed to someone with covid as an excuse… and when everyone in Canada rolled their eyes, he upped his excuse to having covid…. No one bought that…. But instead of following the mayor of Ottawa’s lead, he decided on the nuclear option.

Dean French, former chief to Premier Ford, negotiated deal in Ottawa to move trucks

He (Trudeau) couldn’t really act sooner. …

Yes he could have….he stripped away “Essential worker” status from the trucking industry on January 15th, without any data or science to back up that decision. People in that industry protested that move by the PM, and made their objections heard…. And when the PM would not listen to them, and began insulting them, they organized and starting the Convoy to Ottawa… the PM doubled down on the insults, mostly for political reasons, and did now the swelling numbers of Canadians that agreed that the Federal Mandates be eliminated, as the science did not support them any more….. all the PM had to do was re-instate their Essential Worker Status a few days before, or after they arrived in Ottawa, and vast majority of them would have turned around before arriving in Ottawa, or departing soon after parking on Wellington street.

But our PM has a massive ego, who has been coat-tailing off of his last name all of his life, he was born on third base but will insist that he hit a triple…. The recent pols are against him, and even his brother….. so he could have spared all or most of what has transpired in Ottawa, if he wanted to….. but perhaps he wanted this to happen?

Weird, when the "left" doesn't like something the "right" are doing they yell about it online, on twitter, on social media.
When the "right" doesn't like something the "left" are doing they invade cities, harass and assault people, kill, destroy property, display nazi and confederate flags, intimidate and incite.

I wonder which one is more dangerous??? Hmmm...

What an embarrassing post this is. I'm honestly baffled that you even hit Post Reply after reading what you wrote.

Because the left leaning progressives don’t recognize a double standard when it stares them in the face.

Recent polls are showing that most Canadians are in favour of eliminating all the Covid Mandates, at all levels…..

Which is what people in favour of the mandates were hoping for as hospitalizations dropped from their peaks.

The timing of the convoy was silly, considering we were watching the UK and other jurisdictions ahead of us in the omicron wave reduce their restrictions as cases and hospitalizations began to drop.

metalan2 said:

No, it took far too long really.

Would he have invoked the Emergencies Act had the OPS, or the OPP, or the RCMP, or some combination of the above, gotten their shit together?

They had weeks to do something - to prove that they were defending the interests of their own residents.

One area where there is almost universal consensus is the ineptitude of law enforcement in the Ottawa area.

Two Facebook groups started by a Bangladeshi marketing firm end up with an occupation in a country's capital, funded almost entirely through anonymous, untraceable donations. And you think that's how democracy works?

Just checking. It saddens me that both sides lump everyone with the worst of both sides. Can't even have an actual discussion anymore cause if you say which side you lean you're automatically lumped in with craziest of the bunch.

Exactly…. This happened right here in downtown ottawa, when a couple of distasteful flags were spotted among the thousands of Canadian Flags that lined the highways and overpasses from coast to coast in sub zero weather and all over parliament hill…. But the progressive media only could focus and comment of the two flags…. And lump everyone on parliament hill, and in Ottawa as supporters of the two solitary distasteful flags….. that were carried by two totally masked (ski masks) individuals among a group of protesters that are advocating for the ending of mask mandates…. And all of who are maskless …. Funny how those two were totally masked, and never identifies as being affiliated with the Convoy parked in downtown Ottawa.

Here come the Antifa conspiracy posts.

I've no doubt that they were pro-convoy, just like it was an anti-convoy guy who ran over a bunch of protestors in Winnipeg.

I don't like this new trend where you call everything a "false flag" when it's done by supporters of your cause.

I suspect they were masked because they know damn well what it means to carry around a Confederate or Nazi flag around in the era of social media and cellphone cameras.

4) Davids Tea is forced to tweet out that David Segal has not been affiliated with the company since 2016!!!

Wild!

Twitter just gives people with the largest and more controversial megaphone the biggest voice.

It's a bane on our existence.

What??? KelleY4Fun8347 says that "all people who donate should be crucified on Parliament Hill?"

Geez Louise! Let's put it in a media article and pretend that it reflects the mainstream view for clicks.
