I remember as a kid going to the anti nuclear rallies and walking by all the nuclear embassy’s and meeting in Elgin at the park and 2-3 cops would be there and I thought it was great and is a reason I’m still politically active.

shitting on peoples parents is the number 1 way to make lifelong enemies. We don’t know these people. Should kids be there - probably not. But we all here also cheer for 16 years old getting their faces punched in at OHL games so let’s not get to high and mighty

Also, forgot to ask, when they use the word "LOVE"... is preventing a LOT of people from dying in misery and ALONE at the hospital not seen as "LOVE" too??? How exactly is what they are doing more an act of "LOVE"?
Words don't seem to mean anything anymore. And it's from all fringes of the political spectrum. Words like "love", "freedom", but also "violence", "trauma", "unsafe", have all been co-opted by various ideologies and mean something entirely different from what you can look up in any dictionary.

Policy decisions need to be made for the “greater good” which requires looking at the impacts from as many perspectives as possible.

Yeah and I almost wish an AI would do that for us... completely impartial and "infallible" intelligence. But, some people would still complain and rebel against it because some would still find a way to make up conspiracy theories

Have you seen the link I provided because it's about "living with the virus" going forward. Now that most people have been vaccinated I think we are moving in that direction

Bloomberg - The Best and Worst Places to Be as We Learn to Live With Covid

A problem Canada has vs some other countries is health system capacity, which is why the "lockdown severity" is still high. We're about to get higher in these rankings in the near future as hospitalizations go down but let's take the capital in hostage!

It is absolutely his right to be racist. No problem with that whatsoever. Its also our right to condemn, ostracise and marginalise him for invoking his right.

Freedom of speech is a two way street.

You understand they once spoke of the gays this way right? Societal 'progress' is just substituting one enemy for another while conciously?/ unconsciously? ignoring the very plain truth that lays before our eyes. We know nothing and the wheel will continue to spin.

You can’t possibly think these situations are in any way similar. One group actively wants to harm people. The other just wants to live.

Happy to see Ottawa quiet, calm, safe and sane again.

Great police work. Impressive. :thumbu:

The new chief is incredibly smooth and pro.

Law and order prevails.

May the pandemic fade away into history and the anti-vaxers calm down.

As with previous coronavirus’s… they never fade into history, they’re all still around.

Are you lumping in, someone with natural immunity, with your anti vaxer group?

Manifestation à Québec | Bernard Gauthier veut un « retour d’ascenseur » de Legault | La Presse

In parallel, just after to the Ottawa blockade, there was a manifestation this weekend in Quebec city and it went apparently well so now one of the organizers wants Quebec prime minister Francois Legault to "return the favor"

How funny is it though, that the guy standing next to him as a "F Trudeau/F Legault" tuque?

What about Daniel Pilon story?

Are there limits to a professional’s freedom of expression in his or her personal life?

Now Pilon is an "independent reporter" and sells subscriptions lol (you can also donate)

Fonctionnement de l'abonnement privilège - Daniel Pilon Chroniqueur financier

Worst part is there's unfortunately gullible people who give money to these charlatans. Society has to do something about this.

"tell the truth"

lol wtf is that "truth"? That medias are lot about sensationalism? No shit sherlock, it's a business also trying to make money?

The only truth is that money and power runs the world and human nature can be freaking dangerous. Oh and yes there's real viruses and sicknesses that can kill or hurt people. Thankfully, humans do good stuff too and one of these things is science/medicine, which helps to prevent millions of deaths every year.

Some people just don't have any idea about the "truth" or what "love" or "freedom" even means. Using your children as a shield in a city hostage taking is not love. Ruining people lives for weeks after 2 very hard years is not love, particularly when it's easy to understand why society just COULDN'T afford to abandon all restrictions at that moment. Fortunately, we live in a "dictatorship" where they VALUE our lives. Thankfully, the majority has a bit of common sense too and understand the reality, this whole "truth"

Enough is enough. Freedom of speech is actually pretty dangerous these days. All this crap and misinformation on social networks caused a lot more deaths/suffering. I have the perfect real life example for this :

Mother of some friends, 69 y/o lady, she had 3 cancers, she has diabetes and had all kind of health problems, she was TALKED INTO not taking the vaccine for months by one of her daughters and "friends". Until 2 of her doctors told her that she wouldn't survive without the vaccine if she was catching the virus... She finally got the vaccine so when she eventually got covid, she survived... The worst thing is these "friends" are still harassing her about this is all a hoax, the vaccine is Evil, etc.

Oh and all of this while there's REAL shit going on.

Unfortuntaley to accept the fact you can protest, you just allow others to protest even if you don’t like their opinions. An occupation is a military term - staking claim to land is an essential part of protest whether you take over a bridge in the south, you’re a grandma in B.C. Blocking a logging road or you’re a Proud Boy in Virginia.

Freedom of speech can be ugly, but it’s more ugly and obviously dangerous to silence others - your example was the Granny was getting bad advice from one group but sound advice from another And that’s how it works - you listen to both sides and you make a choice. That’s freedom, not only hearing one side you agree with.

I have no problems if people want to protest as long as they only wear signs and are on foot... But using noisy trucks keeping a city in hostage and pushing innocent people to lose their minds... NOPE, there's gotta be a limit

Nobody has been "silencing" anybody, at least not in democratic occidental countries (I mean LOL, see all the f*** Trudeau and f*** Legault signs everywhere, there's at least 12 countries this wouldn't happen. Doesn't make it right if it happens) and it also became a problem because HUMAN NATURE. Some people are abusing it to push political agendas or make money on the back of gullible people, putting their lives at risk. It's disgusting

A lot of victims here :

https://www.sorryantivaxxer.com/

Freedom is not having the right to brainwash people or putting their lives at risk. Your freedom stops where the freedom of your neighbor begins. Anyone with half decency understands that.

Edit : The "granny" is only alive because luckily she had to see doctors for other stuff. She could have caught covid and die BEFORE these meetings. Just another death, just another number. These are real people dying and they leave a lot people in grief.

Personally, I have done everything I could to not put anybody in danger, still haven't caught, still haven't spread (and NO I haven't been in lockdown for 2 years). I can still look myself in a mirror. Can anybody say the same? Or maybe you need to have a bit of compassion and consideration for other people well being?

Yeah people are pissed, filled with anxiety and feel the politicians for the most part are all idiots no matter what side they are on.

the people need a better deal: more security to know their kids can buy homes, more certainly to know their future jobs and pensions will be there.

It’s going to be a Rocky 10 years ahead so look out for the erosion of your rights and that comes by protecting the rights of the people you don’t agree with. If the truckers are silenced, you are next. If you can’t say I hate the government, you’ll be forced to love the government. It’s ugly but in Democracy you need odd bed fellows to advance, we aren’t going to advance as a country by beating the truckers, we will advance by including them as hard as that may be - because they aren’t leaving and the threat can’t be ignored

Man I had to dodge two conversations the past few days with people who wanted to talk about the convoy. It was like, "You hear this stuff going on over there, it's horrible!" And I'm like "Yep, horrible, let's change the subject" One of them wouldn't let it go and within less than a minute had dived right into Bill Gates' evil plan. I was like, "Bill Gates, isn't he dead? Oh wait, that was that other guy, Jobs. Oh well, life is crazy, gotta go"

Politicians are not necessarily idiots. They are acting based on their interests and the people who finances them. They are also imperfect like all of us and will not always make the best decisions. Also, it's not like a pandemic was super easy to manage. This is NOT a video game.

Getting a house is not that hard (EDIT : I LIVE IN QUEBEC PROVINCE), of course you have to be reasonable and target what your finances allow. All you need to do is work and save money for the cashdown. It's weird but when I stopped partying and spending on alcohol, etc, money filled my pockets and suddenly I was able to build myself a future. Basically all you need to do is stop wasting money on crap and overconsumption.

Truckers/anybody are not being silenced whatsoever. All the measures have been TEMPORARY, life is already slowly going back to normal, mandates are slowly going to disappear. Vaccine passports won't be needed soon. All the government needed was time to deal with the situation. I mean, what is hard to understand here? A lot of people sick at the same time = lot of people want to be treated at the hospital = capacity limits. It's very very easy to understand. All my kids except the youngest understand that. Same with my friends families

Now imagine if the same kind of people that organized the convoy were at the head of the government... The health system would have imploded and the country would be in shambles. Economy would be crashing. Do you really think "total freedom" is the way go? Society needs to babysit people, too many are just not responsible enough and would drive 80 in my street right now, without winter tires and probably under the influence.

If you can’t say I hate the government, you’ll be forced to love the government.

I have no idea what you're trying to say in general as it makes little sense but for the record, I don't give a crap about the government. I care about my family, friends, community and all the good people. I also care about law and order because it's basically the ONLY way to live. If society wasn't build on law and order, we wouldn't be on the internet and we probably wouldn't even be alive

Man I had to dodge two conversations the past few days with people who wanted to talk about the convoy. It was like, "You hear this stuff going on over there, it's horrible!" You missed a really good opportunity to plug the "birds aren't real" parody
