Sandin hasn't proven to be an NHL d man yet. Lets relax.
Exactly why i called him a prospect not a proven NHL dman . The question was are you willing to trade your top prospects . Not are you willing to trade NHL proven d man ..... ......

I think Sandin, Liljegren and Robertson are ones he would prefer to keep.

cap constraints will restrict "how big" dubas can go unless he is willing to move one of Nylander or Marner OR from D-core Muzzin/Rielly

the "big" trade will have to be MONEY IN = MONEY OUT

no way around it

P.S. Trading kerfoot's 3.5 AAV will not allow anything "big" IMO

It depends though. Get the other team to retain some salary and take Kerfoot you could be looking at a 5-8 million dollar player coming in.

So it won't be a "big" piece like say an Eichel but an awful lot of top six forwards fall into that price range

Yeah I'd be surprised to see him give up a top prospect for a rental. I could see him doing it if the other team retains 50% and the prospect was the only "top" asset given.

So say, Palmieri or Hall at 50% for Liljegren straight up... maybe?

Still seems way too much tbh. Lilly is nhl ready right now.

No hesitation he would trade a top prospect. Hard to see how that big return and moving out a prospect will fit into a cap structure that is in a straight jacket. But interesting.

Said it before and will say it again. Rackell retained are 1.9 million this year and next, easily fits under the cap if you're willing to send a top prospect the other way to solidify your top 6.

Engvall + Prospect + 1st for Rackell.

Trade Kerfoot in the summer for Hyman's extension money.

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Rackell-Tavares-Nylander
Thornton-Kerfoot-Mikheyev
Simmonds-Spezza-Vesey / Boyd
Galchenyuk / Robertson

I like Dubas a lot but there might be some urgency to add a player and he's not the only team likely very interested in adding a forward like Hall (especially at 50% retention)

I like that Dubas is willing to be aggressive. If we can add two of Taylor Hall, Boone Jenner, Dennis Savard, Ekholm. I will be happy. This is the year to make that push. Adding Taylor Hall would be a HUGE Boost. Gives us two solid scoring lines.

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Hall - Tavares - Nylander

There’s definitely something a bit scary when moving a top prospect for a rental.

I would imagine that definition includes:

Robertson
Sandin
Amirov
Liljegren

I honestly don’t want to move any of them. Amirov might be the least painful short term. Robertson the most painful. I don’t think Robertson will be moved as he could be impactful right now.

I’d be worried about selling low on Liljegren. He could step into the NHL right now.

I believe when Dubas says they are willing to trade a top prospect, the most likely to be traded would be our 2021 first round pick or last years first round pick Rodion Amirov as they were willing to trade that pick last year at the draft.

With the way next year is shaping up, losing Bogo and one of Holl or Dermott to the expansion draft, I can't see them trading Lilly or Sandin when theres spots right there for the taking.

If they trade Liljegren, it better be for a damn good player. Same for Sandin. His exemption at the expansion draft is worth a lot for a team likely losing a good player and entering a tough situation cap space wise.

I think Amirov and the 1st round pick are at the top of the "in play" list. I would say Liljegren is up there though with Robertson and Sandin near the bottom. Gotta give to get, right?

I hope not. Amirov and the 1st represent tools to keep our window of contention open.

So... what are we giving up? Amirov is 2-3 years away, if not more. The 1st round pick even further.

Ideally you give up a mid-round pick or meh prospect for a good player, sure... but...

Ekholm add is great. Hall is having a terrible year his two goals were redirects. 2 friggin redirect goals, there is no way I'd give up a 1st for that.

Yup. I rather trade our 1st then any of the 4 honestly.

if other team is retaining and taking on kerfoot; the price to pay would be big. it will be a big risk to take but i guess this is the season to do it given north division sucks ass and probably gives us the best opportunity to go all the way to the conference finals and hopefully get in to cup contention

I know there are Lily boosters who I respect all over this board.

Other than his draft slot I have not seen anything to make me believe he is better that Holl/BOGO.
And I would love to be surprised. Having both Sandin and Lily for a few years at low $$$ would be a deal changer for the leafs.

I honestly don’t have a problem with standing pat. I don’t feel secure in the goalie position so unless that return was an investment in John Gibson or something like that, and the cap being what it is, I don’t see where a massive upgrade can come without money going out. I think the group is prone to high ceiling and low floor hockey.

In 2-3 years we will be near the end of the Tavares era and having Amirov come in on an ELC will help us stick handle that decline.

So if the idea is to be a contender for many many years, I have no problem with not going all in this year.

That said, I think I like Amirov more than Sandin, so with Liljegren coming up on D I’m more willing to part with a D if you made me choose.

have you seen how shit that Buffalo team is. You put hall on this team and on our Power Play he is scoring at least 10 from now until the end of the season. I wouldn’t pay a first but I’d move something for him. He is a legit top 6 winger and drastically gives us more depth and makes us better. You can never have too much secondary scoring
