Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

The team needs actual help on the ice, and instead we are giving up valuable cap space to bring in the kid of a team employee, who is not going to help the team at all.

Seems like pretty straightforward nepotism and corruption to me.

The first part of your reply contradicts the second.

We need cap space. That doesn't make the trade "whatever". That makes the trade baffling.
It doesn't contradict anything, you're just looking for a reason to get angry. The Devils only make this move if they know they're getting LTIR space, if Jack goes on then we can afford to facilitate as many deals as we want AND make our own deadline deals.

What about the optics of Frederic being the kind of player the Devils badly needed to fill out the bottom-6 of their roster while Eric Haula's skeleton flails around the ice, but instead of adding Frederic we just helped another team get frederic by sending cap space over for Tommy Fitz's friend's son, who is a longshot-at-best to even be an AHL regular?

The fact that anyone here is saying "this isn't a big deal" is maddening. Cap space is valuable. If you're not going to use all of your available cap space, trade it for a f***ing draft pick -- not your friend's overage son who will never be a part of this f***ing hockey team?

Optics suck sure; though im not worried about that and i dont think you should be either

If optics mattered the Golden Knights would have folded by now
This isn’t optics, that’s straight up corrupt bullshit.

lol this is so ridiculous I just have to laugh. This is the devils leadership folks.

Athletic ranked Edmonton the 29th best prospect pool in the league and LaChance was only the 6th ranked guy there; so that’s not very highly thought of.

Hopefully he fulfills all his possible ability now that he’s a Devil.

6. Shane Lachance, LW, 21 (Boston University)

After spending two seasons post-draft in the USHL while he figured out how to use his big, heavy, 6-foot-5 body, Lachance became Youngstown’s captain and led the team to a Clark Cup. Now he’s a captain again as a sophomore at BU and it’s really starting to come together for him at the NCAA level. He had a respectable freshman year at BU last year but he has been the Terriers’ most consistent forward this year. He’s a physically daunting player with a good feel around the net, a willingness to go plant himself there, and a knack for getting his stick on tips, redirects and rebounds. He’s showing more comfort on the puck and confidence on the attack as he tries to diversify his game beyond the stereotypical wall/net-front guy. He’s got a late-August birthday, which speaks to some of the runway he was given in junior to develop before going off to college as well. Lachance works hard, he supports play well, he plays off skill guys effectively, he’s good along the wall on the cycle, and there are some who believe he might become a classic big-man role player at the next level eventually. He has shown a little more of the pace/sense I wanted to see out of him this year and there’s a mold to work with there, for sure. He’s a well-liked player who plays with an identity and it’s not hard to imagine him as a bottom-six NHLer.

You guys set up these impossible expectations where we trade for every good player on the market and then throw a tantrum when anything less than your made up fantasy happens. Teams are allowed to make small trades too.

It's not that, it's the fact Fitz made this mess up with the forward side of the roster and now he has to fix it in the middle of a year the East is wide open as it's been in a long time and this team clearly went in after the Markstrom trade. The one downside of the roster is due to the GM getting too handsy, you can't fault fans for being angry for it. If Fitz stayed the course, this Devils team is probably a top 2-3 contender in the league in the East right now.

Or you just dont understand whats going on

LTIR needs to be maximized, as stated above. They were never using this 1.15m and now it helps them unlock more of Jack's 8m coming

Everyone needs to step the f*** back and go to work or some shit, its getting embarrassing

~140K in cap space likely isn't the difference between us getting somebody or not. Let's just take a deep breath, still have a few days before the deadline.

The fact that you cited the Golden Knights is either intentionally or unintentionally the funniest thing of all time. The Knights built a reputation of being cut-throat to WIN at all costs. The Devils just traded cap space for a nepo-baby who probably golfed with Fitz at the country club over the summer.

They are the gold standard.

We have 1 playoff series win in 13 years.

nah see this is where you lose me, I dont care about Frederic the player at all. He is a nothing burger.

its the optics of the whole thing (at this moment)

We need to be as close as possible to the cap to fully take advantage of LTIR.

Taking dead cap for a free asset does that.

Jack goes on LTIR, we have tons of extra cap to play with.

Moves are coming, calm down.
