That's what Russia thought in the 1972 Summit Series when Canada had to win it's last 3 games in Russia. Guess who won???

Anyone else wanna mention Canada has never won Hockey outside of North America!

I'm of the belief that the Soviets would have won had Bobby Clarke not viciously slashed Kharlamov in Game 6. That being said, what a great series it was, 4-3-1. Sure they had the Gold Medals in the Olympics.. but that series really put Soviet Hockey on the map as far as being as good as Canada. Nobody expected it to be close. People were talking 8-0.

I would have rather seen Sanderson over Clarke than it would have never had happened but the whack defiantly had an impact just not so sure it was series turning to the point the USSR should and would have won . The Canadian comeback of winning 3 straight was remarkable under the circumstances . Canada had out shot the USSR 274 to 220 on some good Espositio but some questionable Dryden tending compared to Tretiaks remarkable game 1 - 8 play .
We can only wonder how much stronger Team Canada would have been if you added in Trembley , Cheevers for a couple games and than the likes of Bobby Hull and Bobby Orr .
USSR had the best they had to offer play in 72 , Canada certainly didn't which makes Kharlamovs late absence minuscule in comparison imo . Heck a 42 yr old Howe should have been given a sweater as he was a big factor a couple years later in Summit 76 , same series the USSR called Cheevers the best tender they had ever seen rated on his play of that series . A great 72 series which opened the Door for International hockey only marred in backroom politics and bs . Something 87 had none of which Team Canada won also .

the Canadians took them way to lightly in Canada, and didn't recognize that they could pose a threat. After they found out, they had a chance to regroup and won 3 of 4 in the soviet union. Since winning that glorious series, Canada has come to dominate international best on best hockey

will the guys have good chemistry. for some first timers. like duchene, tavares etc. the defense. how will the goalies be like? falter? luongo ***** the bed in the tourney price takes over or both suck and smith is your number 1. price/lui number 2.

I think Canada assembled to many " snipers" and not enough net presence guys.

You need guys in the middle of the crease for deflections but also to block the goalies line of sight. I think adding a Simmonds or a Hartnell type would have been more beneficial than a Duchene or a Benn.

I think Canada will have some difficulty scoring against America , russia and Sweden.

A Simmonds or a Hartnell?! [mod] People are already complaining about some of the picks as talented as they are, yet you're suggesting even worse players? I'm glad you're not the management.

We can make the superstars play roles they don't usually play. Does Rick Nash usually play on a shutdown line in the NHL? No, yet that's what he did very well in Vancouver. It's Babcock's job to tell some players: "you, go in front of the net and deflect."

I get it that the goal is not to have an all-star team, but Canada has the talent to dictate the game and mold the players because the players should be talented enough to adapt.

[mod] You think being a net presence is just something anyone can do? What do tim kerr, John leclair, Keith Tkachuk all have in common? These are some big strong boys who you cant just simply move out of the way. They made a living dominating in front of the net. This is how you score goals in todays nhl. Who the hell on this team is capable of doing that? All i see is perry and he just does it on Pp.

you should really get out more and watch the rest of the league play. This is Olympic ice, it would take tim kerr 1 minute to get from end to end.

One game elimination.

Off day? Unlucky bounces? Hot goalie to steal a game?

Anything can happen. Sure if it was a bo7, but in one game anything can happen.

If you're going to contradict yourself, you don't have to be a gigantic homer in the process

How am i being a homer. I am rooting for team USA.

As a flyer fans i watch hartnell and simmer wreck havoc in front of the net. Im not vying for those guys to be on the olympic team just players with that same skill set.

Heatley, Iginla, Morrow were the net presence guys last olympics. This olympics who is going to stand out in front of the net and dominate?

how did all those net presence guys work out in torino? The line up Canada has assembled is built for the big ice, and we have plenty of net presence. As a flyer fan, you probably don't know how to build a winning team. You should be asking how the usa is going to score, not Canada. After kane and kessel, their natural goal scorers are really lacking

Maybe try watching some teams other than the Flyers?

Simmonds and Hartnell are not talented enough to even get a sniff at this roster.

They won't dominate because the competition is really good.

I just hope the team doesn't have the over confidence of it's fans.

Look at how team Usa scored today. Then look at Canada's goals. This is one of the reasons why I think Canada will not dominate.

Team usa lived in the crease today. Not even chara could deter 3 forwards at once battling for the puck. This is how you score in hockey not by trying to pick corners.

Agreed, Canada needs guys like Hartnell and Simmonds to carry the play. Hell, its a shame they didn't bring the Schenn brothers shut down the opponent's best lines. How about Vincent Lecavalier for some veteran presence.

Canada is going to run over every team in this tournament. Crosby's line, Getzlaf's line, and Tavares's line are going to make Suter, EK65, and Markov () look like pylons.
