his numbers are hardly better when he was in Boston.

Grasping at straws here
They are much better, but it's the difference between a good goaltender and a Vezina goaltender.

Not sure I get the reference of the difference between a good goalie and a vezina goalie.

Both stats are for Ullmark no?

The "what if Korpisalo is actually good" stuff is crazy to me.

I can't decide if it's because of Boston sports fanaticism or because all the dipshit fanbases hate us.

He's not as bad as he was with Ottawa.

But he's still reeeeeeally bad. I've never seen a six foot guy look so small in nets for an entire season. And his reaction time is slower than mine while on weed.

Yes both are Ullmark

In Buffalo he was posting a bit better than league average, and in Boston he was posting Vezina type numbers.

A 0.12 difference in save percentage is staggering. It's the difference bewteen an above average starter and an average backup.

In his time as the starter in Buffalo from 2019-2021, Ullmark had the 21st best save % over 54 games, Rask was 1st with 0.923 over 60 games. He was a good goalie, a guy you could rely on to get an average game and give you a chance

In his time in Boston from 2021-2024, Ullmark has the best save % in the league at 0.924 over 130 games, 2nd place is Hellebuk with 0.921 over 166. He was the best goalie in the league over that timeframe. He was the most likely to win you a game in the enitire league, and took home a Vezina because of it.

I'd love to get the Boston Ullmark, but I'm expecting a guy in between both, a very good starter

I’ll say this, I think Korpi will be better in Bos and Ullmark won’t be as good as he was in Bos as he will be in Ottawa.

We still upgraded significantly however
It's the only way to really assess this.

Over the last 5 years, Boston is 1st in cumulative goals against and nearly a goal per game against better than us. Over the course of 5 years. Sure, there's a symbiotic relationship between team defense and goaltending but that's such a hilariously large gap that you can't help but laugh.

I'm interested if they're still going to try to move Forsberg and replace him with a goalie from the free agent pile.

They got the donuts? Excellent....
If we're going on the assumption that he waived his NTC to come to Ottawa it means the chances of him signing an extension are pretty good. If he didn't want to be here, he'd have enforced his NTC.

His market value will likely never be higher than right now and there's always the chance he gets injured or he has a poor season.

I'd suggest the play out the season narrative is a ploy by his agent for negotiating purposes.

Shades of the Anderson acquisition. Funny, I was saying yesterday that the Korpisalo contract was untradable. I know nothing lol.

Interesting to hear on 32Thoughts that Friedman heard from a league executive that he doesn't think Ottawa was on Ullmark's No-Trade list because he didn't include them because they signed Korpi to a long term deal to #1 last year. Ottawa would have likely been added when submitting a new list next week.
Bruce just reported that he waived his NTC.

At some point he should be the one to start taking on the responsibility of “improving”.

He now has steady ownership that’s investing in every facet of the team and the new GM just acquired a goalie who won the Vezina last season.

Hopefully he shows up to camp with a commitment to playing disciplined two way hockey for 82 games, even if it means his point totals suffer.

I fully expect Staios to address the D next week, so the question will quickly become “can Brady lead a team to the playoffs” instead of “can management surround Brady with good players.”

The onus is on him (and Stützle and Sanderson) to take the next step.

The not enough around me narrative will soon be tired.
No hard feelings, Brady just saw Matthew win a Cup by forcing a trade out of a gongshow. It isn't about "you guys aren't good enough for me", it is "enough of this gongshow" and I can't fault him for thinking that.

Next season is critical.

Things move fast, based on how Andlauer and Staios have handled their first ~9 months in town, I don't think anyone can describe this as a gongshow.

Just now on TSN1200, Staios said, "we have a young core, but they're not that young anymore." He's not going to beat around the bush. He's going to do what he can to improve the roster, but at the end of the day, it's the players that go out on the ice.

The results next season largely rest on the shoulders of Tkachuk, Stützle and Sanderson.

I think Boston being a defensive juggernaut is being a bit overstated. They were so good moreso because of their goalies, not the other way around.

The Bruins ranked 19th in xGA last year, 22nd in SCF% and 19th in HDCF%. 5v5, their play was remarkably average, if not below average.

They gave 748 high-danger chances against. We gave up 741.
They only gave up 75 high-danger goals against. We gave up 99.

They Bruins were 7th best in high-danger goals against, but 12th worst in high-danger chances against. That tells you something.

They just had two Vezina calibre goalies who play a very "quiet" game, in that they make even very difficult saves look routine (kind of like Carey Price did).

So when you're watching, you think everything is very buttoned up because the goalies aren't flailing about all over the place trying to stop pucks.
