Line Combos: Line Discussion Thread

good idea. Boyle on the 3rd line. Miller at his tender age is already light years ahead of Boyle outside of the dot.

Well Boyle is down but not that far down. I hope JT turns out to be an all star but right now he is not producing at all (0 goals in 22 of his 23 games) so I believe some time on the 4th line or in the AHL is due. AA played on the 4th line at times. So did Stepan. It is not the end of the world.

does anyone here have a clue what they're talking about??

fasth is in ny for his physical, and could meet the team in Ottawa. he can and will play for the blueshirts this year

Its 3rd line or AHL. AHL playoffs start soon anyway so it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world for him to be sent down soon for them.

Fast can only be on loan until 4/15 and can't play in NHL

I thought Fast was not allowed to play in the NHL this year, only AHL?

He can play for the Rangers this season.

I think he starts off in the AHL though for a few games to see how he does, like Miller, wouldnt be the worst thing for him to play a few reg season games for them then start the AHL playoffs. Of course if he is a PPG player down there im sure he would be called up sooner then later.

No. We've been waiting patiently for someone like you to come along and set us straight.

apparently. alot of "in my opinion...."s, just curious as to how some of you formulate these opinions...

His agent actually mentioned it would take about a week.... Don´t get why it would take so slow. I guess the team wants to speed things up, and maybe he´ll be ready for the game against Montreal?

He actually said it will take about a week to get the paperwork done by the US embassy in Norway. But the Rangers can speed things up, and it should be fixed by the time Zucc arrives in Ottawa. So there's a chance he'll play tomorrow already, but Zucc said he probably needs to spend some time with the team and practice before he's game ready.

If Zucc comes in and plays like he did the last few months in KHL he is going to surprise a lot of people who have little faith.

I'm one with little faith. If he comes in and plays really well, I won't be surprised. Most of us won't. He always plays well right away. If he can maintain it for more than a 20 game stretch, only then will I be pleasantly surprised.

Actually extremely excited for zucc. He was great in his final stint befor the injury. Like a legitimate gamechanger.

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
duh...

Zuccarello - Richards - Gaborik
I want a chance to see these 3 playmakers together. And if you don't think Gaborik is a playmaker; you have not been watching the Rangers for the last 2 years. That's an absurd amount of creativity out there. Just make sure McDonagh and Girardi are out there most of the time when this unit is.

Kreider - Miller - Callahan
Grit. Size. Speed. Can play the two-way game. Get 'em all together and let's see what the latest USA line can do.

Powe - Newbury - Asham
Hey... I like what I've seen from all three!

Boyle and Pyatt... grab a seat.

id be happier if NYR can get a prospect or some NHL depth like Torres for these guys.. Rangers dont have much grit and when Simmonds went after Richards, i thought, i wish the Rangers had more grit that can actually play in the NHL.

I would probably put Pyatt in for Newbury but the rest looks gold.

Congrats on hitting 1,700 posts by the way.

Also congrats on 250 posts not about Boyle.

Another meaningless stat from you know who. When Boyle is a 4th liner, the refrain goes away. Until then it is topical whether you like it or not. Try typing something without sarcasm; I'm guessing your computer won't blow up.

He's not producing goals, but he is getting chances and that is a good sign. I think we will be glad that Torts stuck with him.

I really like the lines they rolled with last night.

If you work MZA in I think you go with something like this

Hags-Step-Nash
Pyatt-Richards-Callahan
MZA-Miller-Gaborik
Kreider/Powe/Asham-Newbury-Boyle

I wouldn't mind seeing Pyatt sit for a game or two, either. He's been kind of invisible lately.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
Zuccarello-Boyle-Callahan
Powe-Miller-Newbury
Pyatt

Let's for a minute assume both these guys actually play for the big club.

what would your lines be?

Mine?

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Kreider - Richards - MZA
Callahan - Miller - Gaborik (move Cally to the right, get Gabby comfortable)
Fasth - Newbury - Boyle (I like boyle on the wing, and I like Newbury..a lot, good 4th liner imho)
If this was the case and he joined i would play asham drop newbury and try and trade Boyle but the top 3 lines are very solid

Me when I see Brian Boyle's name brought up every discussion even though we know he's not gonna be demoted/moved around often:

:deadhorse

Semi off topic i guess, but funny Tweet from Hank :)

That was great. Zooks really seems to have a lot of friends in that locker room. The guys seemed genuinely happy to hear he was coming back.

Edit: Zooks went back at Hank:
@HLundqvist30 if u mean the guy that kan score on u whenever he wants pretty much then yeah ur right;)

If the plan is to have Fast join the big club, there has to be a trade in the works.

Here's what I'd do:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
Zuccarello-Miller-Callahan
Fast-Powe-Asham

I'm guessing Newbury will eventually go back down, and Boyle will be dealt. Depending on the matchup, you can mix and match the 4th liners with Pyatt. And I'm higher on Pyatt than most. Additionally, I'm reluctant to trade a forward because someone is bound to be injured. But this all may be moot, because Fast may not make the team. If that's the case, go with a Powe-Boyle-Asham fourth line.

The interesting thing that I like to focus on is the individual players and the dynamic they bring. For call ups like Miller and Kreider, they face potential set backs due to being scared of making mistakes/sent back down/over extending/ defensively unsound plays when they're trying to be creative (all the things that the AHL allows for but Torts forbids). They can really step up their game as well when they're playing 3rd/4th line and perhaps with players that are of higher calibre than you'd expect to be put on a line with a call up. The confidence can really fly etc.

With MZA and Fasth, both guys weren't in the minor leagues. Fasth has quite a bit going for him in the SEL and he's established there so he's already a pro despite being young. MZA has had his share of AHL, NHL, KHL and SEL(2)(?) so neither guys are really turning pro so it'll be interesting to see how that works out. Very very interesting individuals coming in at a time like this. I haven't been as excited about additions for a long long time.
