Line Combos: Line Discussion Thread

Gaborik Richards Nash was HORRIBLE defensively and Nash is a pretty big guy, imagine just replacing him with Zucc? [eye stabby guy]

We need offense, dude. Like I said before, play a unit of 5 with McD - Girardi. Or maybe throw Zucc and Gabs with Miller if you're worried about the defense. Either way, you have to give Gabby and Zucc on the same line a look. Soft hands, good passers, good skaters, playmaking ability... How about...

Nashty line
Kreider - Beaver - Captain
Zucc - JT - Gabs
Powe - Boyle/Newbury - Asham

No. Bigger rink size, game is played in a very different way, amongst other things. He needs to spend the remainder of the season in the AHL before he's ready for the big leagues. Don't want to mess up this kid's development.

the sel is a pretty good league. you are not going to mess up this kid. a 6th rounder from sweden is in very good company on this team. he'll fit right in.

With Kreider and Zuke, this team is scary good on paper. Too bad we can't play games on paper.

No, he has joined the team in Ottawa, and there's even a chance he'll play tonight. The Rangers can fix a working permit in no time, according to his agent.

Permits/signing OK now according to Strang on twitter. Also on NYR.com now

Chemistry is a funny thing. It's more mental than anything.

When we brought in Gomez and Drury, a lot of people figured Jagr would play better with Drury since both Jagr and Gomez liked to play on the puck. As it ended up, Jagr was usually better with Gomez.

Playing styles don't necessarily need to mesh in order for guys to thrive together. The players are professionals and capable of adapting (usually). If you get guys that are on the same page mentally, you can take contrasting playing styles and have them work. If you have a good feel for where a guy is going to be and what he is going to do, even if it doesn't work with what YOU generally want to do, you can still be successful.

I know we need offense, but we can't win a game pinned in our own zone, and that's exactly what I see happening with that line no matter what d pairing is out there.

I can did those lines. At this point I think keeping JT at center is essential

His agent actually mentioned it would take about a week.... Don´t get why it would take so slow. I guess the team wants to speed things up, and maybe he´ll be ready for the game against Montreal?

I would think that the Easter holidays will slow the process down.

Great, that means he's ready to play tonight if Torts wants to insert him. Media also reports he will skate with the team this morning :)

We're coming off a season-high 5 goals in a game in which there was noticeable chemistry on all four of the lines. Why are we in such a rush to put Zuke and Fasth in the lineup right away? If things slow down again sure, dress 'em, but let's see if we can actually get some momentum going before shuffling the lines again.

Article on that here :)

You should read a funny article in Nettavisen saying Zucc ended up in the minors last time because Torts couldn't stand a Norwegian female reporter from TV2. I really hope she doesn't return, but I heard rumors she's already on her way

Against Philly.

This. At this point it doesnt hurt rolling with the current lineup until they stop getting chances, especially with two tough games again Ottawa and Montreal coming up. Why take chances and disrupt the chemistry we have right now? I think we'll have a much better idea of what our lineup will look like going down the final stretch and entering playoffs after this weekend.

so let me get this straight:

an NHL team struggling to score goals just brought a kid to the states to play in the AHL for the rest of the year. meanwhile, the kid had to wave his right to play for Sweden in the world championships to come here, and you think he's staying in the AHL for the rest of the year?

yea, makes a boatload of sense dude

and if you think it's going to take a professional hockey player months to get accustomed to a smaller, regulation rink, you've clearly never actually played the game
