Line Combos: Line Discussion Thread

I'm always reluctant to remove PKers from the lineup. Especially with how thin the Rangers are getting with them. It's easy to say trade Boyle, but that leaves the Rangers with only a few PKers.

I would say Powe could just be added to the lineup, but at this point he's just the odd man out with how well Newbury and Asham are playing.

Given the players we have now I'd guess a lineup like this:
Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Miller-Gaborik
MZA-Richards-Callahan
Asham-Newbury-Boyle

I'm sensing a trade is in the works.

i dont understand why we cant have gaborik, nash, and callahan all play RW. why do we have to have a designated checking line or whatever? just have 3 balanced lines and reward the one playing the best with slightly more ice time.

Exactly exactly what Tortorella should have done when the Hags-Step-Nash line was doing well and we were on mini winning streak, but Tortorella broke it up to get Richards and Gabby going. The "big" three should NOT be on the same line. Keep Nash and Gaborik as right wings.

Based on the small sample I saw with Zuccarello and Malkin in the KHL, I'd be reculant to put him on Richards line as I feel they both need to be the creative one on their line.

The problem with Malking in Metallurg was that ive never seen a puck hog worse than that. Reminded me of Norwegian U14 hockey where the team has one "star".
Mother****er wouldnt pass the puck until he has 4 guys pinning him in the corner, haha

Edit: bigger issue is defence. Though i do not think Zucc is horrible in defence, he is not good enough to support a floater like Richards. Guy is slower than melassis.

Judging by his point total, I assume it worked?

The guys was a monster, dont get me wrong.
But it is frustraring seing a player holding on to the puck for too long over and over again, even it if leads to a goal every once in a while, hehe.
Seriously though, Malkin was in a leauge of his own in Metallug (with the expection of one of two guys), dont get me wrong. If he had oped to pass a little more often, he would have way more points. That was the point i was trying to make.

i have similar to what a lot have said..

Hags-Stepan-Nash
Kreid-Richards-Gaborik
MZA-Miller- Callahan
Powe/Pyatt-Boyle-Asham

But since we make an annual trade deadline move with Phx..

Hag-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
MZA-Miller-Callahan
Torres-Boyle-Asham

Flip Gaborik and Callahan and those are lines I'd feel good about going to war with

Let's for a minute assume both these guys actually play for the big club.

what would your lines be?

Mine?

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Kreider - Richards - MZA
Callahan - Miller - Gaborik (move Cally to the right, get Gabby comfortable)
Fasth - Newbury - Boyle (I like boyle on the wing, and I like Newbury..a lot, good 4th liner imho)

If you like Noob, I think it's better to have him on the wing than Boyle, if you're going to keep both. Boyle's better in the circle.

I have said that for years. There is no law that you have to play 6 guys that can not score on the 3rd and 4th lines. A team with 3 lines that can score and 1 checking line will be much more dangerous.

In my opinion both Gabs and Nash should be on the first 2 lines at RW. Then give Cally the choice of 2nd line LW or 3rd line RW. Gabs has earned the right to play RW with his past production. If Cally wants to play RW let Kreider play LW on the second line. Have a 3rd line of

Zooks-Boyle-Cally

Miller should be playing 4th line or in the AHL.

thinking Fast starts in CT

Hagelin, Stepan ,Nash
Zuccarello, Miller, Gaborik
Kreider, Richards, Callahan
Powe, Boyle, Asham
Pyatt

send Newbury down

what would your lines be?

I love four even lines. Cut back and trim late in games if needed, but I don't like over coaching.

1. Zucc-Stepan-Nash
//Hagelin is our second best forward. Zucc could work here. You get a chance to get a 2nd line going.

2a. Hagelin-Richards-Fasth
//Natrually, I am a bit ahead of Fasth break-in period here, but I want BR with two guys who can skate a ton and are good at keeping the puck with in the team. I like the potential.

2b. Kreider-Miller-Callahan
//Would push each other.

2c. Powe-Boyle-Gabby
//Gabby with free role.

any News on zuke's visa/work permit yet ?

Can he play tomorrow ?

His agent actually mentioned it would take about a week.... Don´t get why it would take so slow. I guess the team wants to speed things up, and maybe he´ll be ready for the game against Montreal?

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Callahan
Fast-Miller-Gaborik
Powe-Boyle-Asham
Newbury

scratch Pyatt

Doubt Fast makes the squad though.

Switch Miller and Richards depending on play and chemistry

good idea. Boyle on the 3rd line. Miller at his tender age is already light years ahead of Boyle outside of the dot.
