Gaborik on the LW is a complete waste. Still can't believe our best goal-scorer is playing on his off-wing lol. Only Tortorella puts Callahan ahead of him. You think Brown would be ahead of a 40 goal scorer in L.A? How about Doan on Phoenix? How about Horton on the Bruins? Simmonds on the Flyers? No, they would all be on the 2nd line behind Gaborik. Even funnier that Callahan is ahead of Gaborik when he has the 2 way game to be on the third line. Gaborik doesn't. Clear as day.

If we could trade Boyle and Pyatt for one good third liner, it would be really helpful. We need fewer 4th liners and at least one more third liner.

Boyle, Pyatt, Powe, Noob, Asham, Haley, Kreider, Miller are all capable 4th liners, but not much more (though Kreider and Miller are improving). We have a solid top-6 (Nash, Richards, Gaborik, Cally, Hagelin, Step), but we dont have a good third line.

Boyle and Pyatt are borderline 3/4 line players, so together I think they could fetch back one quality third liner.

Should have kept Prust and never touched Pyatt / Asham.

I like Asham.

On the other hand, is Fast really expected to jump into the lineup and perform? I've never seen him play before but can someone please explain why he is just being penciled in so easily.

Thats the one thing about Torts I do not support.

he is an NHL coach and I trust him, but I just can't see his reasonings for refusing to get Gabby off the LW. Its clear hes struggled to make the switch.

I thought Nash was easily able to play LW, but we haven't seen much of that. I'll trust the coach here and assume Nash would look even more lost than Gabby does.

Hag-Step-Nash
Zuke-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Miller-Callahan
Powe-Newbury-Asham

That's more like it. They didn't bring Zuke over to play 10 mins a game. He said a two-way bench contract is out of the question. He can earn good money in Russia. If the Rangers want him they have to play him.

I realize this might not stick but why not the same lines as last night? The one change an obvious one, getting Boyle to 4c and getting MZA's playmaking skills on the ice with a finisher and a grinder. 3 potential scary lines.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Callahan
MZA-Miller-Gaborik
Pyatt-Boyle-Asham (4th line can change depending on opponent)

If Gabby finds his stride and Richards starts playing better with the puck then switch Gabby and Cally.

I don't think theres room for Kreider, Miller, Fast and Zucc in the same lineup.

Disagree. At first glance I could see why you say that. It all comes down to the result. If they play well with each other and the W's accumulate you can bet they will play.

I'd say that's pretty realistic depending on how the personnel shakes out.

I'm sure this has been posted already.

Re-posting this and hoping someone will answer. thnx

I don't think he is being penciled in yet. But, the case for him is that he has been a strong offensive force in a man's league at a young age. He is a very strong skater who not only has puck possession skills but a good shot and a strong defensive game. I've seen him in the WJCs and in the SEL some and he possesses what we need; natural offensive abilities. The question is how does he adjust to the NA game and the smaller rink. He can play.

I think Torts should and will try to ride out the lines/lineup as we saw last night. For the most part our top 3 lines were all getting chances last night, and regardless of what people may think I think Boyle slots in well on that 3rd line wing as a big body who can do some damage for Richards and Kreider in the corners.

I also think Gaborik did get some good chances around the net last night. He's still not at the top of his game, but I think these lines really have some good potential if they get going especially since we split up the "Big 3" and have at least 2 good threats to score on each line. Makes us look alot less top-heavy and each line is good overall defensively.

Miller is fast enough to keep up with Gaborik and if given a few games I think we might have something there since Callahan can open up some ice for Miller and Gaborik and Miller is unlike Richards in that he can be physical himself and do some more forechecking to aid Gaborik.

And of course if they end up not working we always have MZA and Fasth to tinker with the lines some more before playoffs.

If i recall, i read that the Rangers wanted him over so that he could get used to the smaller rink, the different system, etc.

I dont think that they plan to toss him out there right away.

If Zucc comes in and plays like he did the last few months in KHL he is going to surprise a lot of people who have little faith.

What I feel the lines should be:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-MZA
Gaborik-Miller-Callahan
Boyle-Newbury-Asham
Powe, Pyatt

Interesting... Richards and Zuke to hand Kreider the puck deep, Gaborik can take advantage of the space created by the forecheck of Calllahan and Miller and our bottom line... Well, it doesn't make that much difference if you play Powe or Newbury at this stage.

Perfect. First line stays together (most important thing). second most important thing keeps Gabby on the right wing (his only hope of getting going). Second line looks like it could gain some traction if given a chance (i.e.not benching Kreider if he makes a mistake). And fourth line is not bad. I rather see Powe than Pyatt but I guess it depends on the opponent.
