Lindy Ruff has been fired

The 5 minute re-hire clock on Ruff begins now.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes and where he ends up, if anywhere.

From RDS: When Lindy was hired, Wayne Gretzky was still playing and Maurice Richard was still alive.

I don't feel one bit like the team was actively trying to get Lindy fired by the way they played ala Washington last year....i think they are just that bad....

Kinda wonder how Pommer, Vanek, Miller, Hecht, feel. Kinda their fault. He's been their one and only coach, brought them in, helped them....

Funny Side thought: Imagine if Ruff ends up the coach in Dallas.

HOLY ****ING ****....I feel like I must be dreaming. Since mid-October 1997 I've been a fan of this team, and so I've always known there to be just ONE head coach in Lindy Ruff, and now his time is finally up. I'm overwhelmed with mixed emotions here just like I am off the ice with personal life. It's nice to be rewarded for delivering positive results, but his departure was way way long overdue because positive results he could no longer deliver. I'll never forget this day in history. Wow.

All coaches get to the point were their message no longer reaches the coached. It was time (passed time) for Ruff to go.

I'm sure he'll have suitors in short order and I'm sure he will have a 2-3 year success cycle with another team, just like other coaches who aren't married to their GM do.

TSN picked the saddest picture they could find.

Thanks, Lindy. You had quite a run. Unfortunately, a change-up was overdue.

This is where I am, as well. I'm not going to celebrate his firing. It was the correct move, but it's a numbing feeling. He was an institution behind the bench, and the coach of the team for half my life. But it was time. I'll root for him to succeed at his next stop, wherever that may be.

What's with the hate for Ruff? Serious question! next to making the Sabres a competitive team when he had next to nothing for the longest time.

Scoring wasn't the Sabres issue IMO more defence and the top 6 (dmen) isn't horrible nor is it great, it's decent.

He'll find a job soon elsewhere.....if AV ever became available would you guys be interested in him as a coach?

Can we at least celebrate the possibilities we have here though?

His record isn't that good (he misses the playoffs more than he makes them), and it seems like his message has just completely been lost on the team. Not to mention a lot of specific decisions that were complete headscratchers.
