You don't throw away potential like Myers without seeing what he can do under a different coach...
Tall, big defensemen who can skate don't grow on trees. Look how long Chara took to develop.

I do admit we could do without Hecht and Stafford and Leopold need to be traded away.

Not much ill will towards Ruff from me anymore. He was and is a great coach, just not for this team. He WILL catch on elsewhere and I think he will have a similar level of success.

Glad Lindy's gone now, but I agree. Lots of good memories under his watch.

He needed to go for sure, but it's still kind of sad...I think we can all admit that to a degree...

Feel the same way. I don't hate Lindy at all. But I just think this team needed a change. It was long overdue. If anything Darcy Regier is to blame for making it take this long to make a move. Lindy is too proud of a person to admit that it wasn't working and keep trying. But the message was getting tired and falling on deaf ears.

I really think Darcy made me start to resent Ruff. Took way too long to make the obvious decision.

I know Lindy will be coaching another team pretty soon. I wish him the best unless it's against the Sabres.

I said to my roommates last night after watching the game, I'm either gonna wake up to a blockbuster trade or Lindy Ruff being fired. Was hoping for the trade. Whateves.

I think a lot of us agree that this is the right move and a long time coming. I have to admit, though, that i am a little more sad about this than i thought i would be. I wish Ruff luck, just not in our division, conference, or any future playoff matchups against the sabres.

They don't really have much choice, at least for a couple weeks. Nobody's going to be available to come in right away, especially if they have to assemble an entirely new staff.

Especially given they play a game tomorrow. Not a lot of time to get candidates lined up, interviewed, etc.

The last thing we need them to do is just rush into it and not get the best guy available. I'm fine with Patrick taking the next few games while the Sabres look over their options...though I wouldn't want him here next season.

It finally happened? Was at last nights game and it was definitely noticeable. Ruff is a great coach but really just was not getting it done anymore. I do think he will get hired and be successful and great, I will still hope for the best for him. I look forward to hiring a top notch coach and hopefully getting ourselves as Sabres fans closer to our end goal, a Stanley Cup. Will Regier be next?

Appreciate what Lindy has done but it was time for the organization to try this from a change perspective. Thanks Lindy...and hopefully the team takes this opportunity to reenergize.

As the solo ruff supporter on the boards, this totally sucks. A combination of inexperience at center and too many offensive defenseman were my excuse for hanging on to a bad season. The fans have been impatient since the organization went down with a pr sabotaging nightmare

I look at it from entirely the opposite point of view...I think this could be our LA Kings move that puts a group of extremely talented underachievers over the top.

I really didn't expect Ruff to be fired before the offseason. About time ...
He will still be a good coach - for another team - his time in Buffalo was up.

I think that is a very pertinent question. It's one thing to get rid of Ruff (and it was past time), but the replacement is just an important.
