Likey it was hinted he'd be fired or he heard rumours. or it was just so obvious he had to go. it wasn't soley ruffs fault, but it was the fact nobody wanted to listen to him anymore.

FWIW, Darcy said it was 100% his decision. He said that though he spoke with ted black, and terry pegula about it today, it was ultimately his decision to fire Ruff.

and there were those of us who recognized that relying on them in a bigger role would be a mistake... and that their offensive production was masked by the fact that they had a vanek and a pominville line doing the heavy lifting in front of them

True - but you were in the minority. Most seemed to expect the magic of last year's streak by the 3 to just pick up where it left off.

All I remember thinking as I watched the 3 last spring was that it was just another example of 3 guys getting on a hot streak and meshing for a short stretch - which has happened before. Few lines can sustain a hot streak or have true and consistent chemistry for a full season or more. Stafford had a great run when first joining Roy and Vanek, then the 3 disappeared as an effective line the following year.

Darcy seemed to be pissed at the players...... Whole team trade incoming? :sarcasm:

I hope a blockbuster, culture-changing deal is coming. Dumping Stafford, Gerbe, Leopold or Weber - while necessary - would just be another ripple in the pond with minimal impact.

Dealing one of Vanek, Pominville or Miller would be the gutsier, bolder move to say loud and clear that the status quo and acceptance of mediocrity isn't going to continue. Given that all 3 are up for new deals in 2014, I wonder if Regier would go that far.

Of the 3, Pominville could be the one - although it would continue the Sabres' history of trading their captains.

And he should be fired for this statement. Absolutely Unbelievable!

:help:

He's an interim coach. Darcy said he has a half of season to prove what he's got, and depending on results may consider him for the head coaching job. What's wrong with that? A little trial and error. Darcy is taking the rest of this season and the offseason to make his choice. God forbid he takes his time with this stuff.

The Sabres needed someone to finish out these final 30 or so games. That's it. It came down to James Patrick or Rolson. You guys are pitiful sometimes..

Sorry to hear this news. Lindy Ruff will be missed there soon. Would love to have some of the offensive power you guys have. As a Preds fan were have the opposite problem you folks have. We can't score consistantly and you guys can't keep the puck out of your net.

Miller has not been the same since the olympics and I don't expect anything to change for you as long as he is playing like he has been for a couple years. Your defense is as broke as our offense. Maybe we can fire Trotz and pick up Ruff to teach our team a little offense and you guys can get Trotzto play the boring semi TRAP that we have to rely on night in night out.

Anyone else think Ruff is happy to be moving on? As much as Regier is sad to see him go I think Lindy knew he was likely never going to be a GM here. And I also think since Terry took over this became more of a Regier team that Lindy was supposed to make work rather than being a collaboration between the two.

Sometimes Lindy was included in/supported Regier's player moves....signing Leino, trading for Regehr.

Other times he was not...trading Roy, Keeping Grigo up?

Miller is not the problem, he stands on his head much like Rinne does for you guys. At least the Preds have reliable defenceman who give a crap.

You obviously don't watch very many Sabres games. It's like people stopped watching hockey after 2007 and still come here to spout their out-dated opinions.

I Watch every game the Sabres play and if you guys do not think Miller is a problem theres not much I can offer to the discussion. He has been horrible, and if you would like to upgrade your D I would be happy to let you have Weber and Blum for Vanek and Ennis.

Miller has not been "horrible" haha. Holy crap, people just barge in here now and destroy our players.

First Roy, now Ruff?

Contain the ecstasy, please.

I'm in a good place right now...

Let's rebuild properly...

I should be in a good state until the first sniff of a non rebuild move (trading futures for Jerome Iginla)
