I’m very confused about any question marks regarding Ferland. 21 goals and across the board is known as a guy with a nonstop motor. Lindholm hit someone once, I think.
I saw that play, Lindholm actually tripped and fell into that player.....

The only real problem I have with the deal is that is it did not address the teams biggest needs. Goaltending and a Center, but there may be more moves to come as this probably makes Faulk expendable.

Lindholm asking for that Kind of money was out of line and probably is what set this in motion. ferland has some size which is a need. Its a start... can't wait to see the next moves!!!

Lindholm was starting to get pushed out of top6 and he's looking what 5M?

Aho, Svec, TT, Necas, Staal, Skinner as top6 options today, add Zykov/Rask/Williams to challenge for spot, add the guy who they could get for a trade with one of their D-men(Faulk).

I honestly believe today Carolina has a core that can one day be a serious threat in Metro.

Your Gm made it sound like today that goaltending is going to be the priority now and they will look at all the options.
He was surprisingly straight about it.

C has options with Aho/Staal/Necas/Rask.

Aho has only a few handful of games at center, Necas 0, and it's hard to count on Rask to do much.

Skinner might/probably will be traded. Aho did play a lot of wing, and so did Lindholm. So wing is very much unsettled as well, even with Svechnikov coming in.

Still need a lefty on defense to pair with Hamilton. Fleury/Bean most likely aren't ready and may never be for a top 4 role.

Not a lot of options at goaltender either when Lehner/Andersen/Hutton/etc are probably your best options.

I don't hate the trade at all. In fact, I've really warmed up to it as I think Hamilton is a very real upgrade to our defense. And we still have time to acquire and sign players this offseason. Just a lot of question marks surrounding the team still.

I think both teams will do well with this trade but if Adam Fox signs this is an absolute steal for Carolina.

My previous post strangely disappeared, but I'll reiterate my feelings:

Carolina won this trade as far as I can see, although as a Flames fan I have to hope I'm wrong.

You guys got a heck of a player in Micheal Ferland. Don't make unrealistic expectations about his physical game (i.e.: don't watch highlights of his 2015 Vancouver Playoff series and then expect him to bring that level of intensity every night - it's impossible) but the upside with this player isn't just a third liner. I would say last year he played at the level of a second liner through and through. His teammates get most of the press and therefore the credit, but I have a slightly different opinion: Ferland was the second best player on the Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland line and with a better center could be an NHL star. He is a complete player and has Brad Marchand type upside, maybe a bit less of a headcase and a bit bigger at 6'2" / 220-ish lbs. The thing that will really grab you is his skating - he's actually a very fast forward despite his size and it allows him to get breakaways, but on the other hand he's also able to spring his linemates on breakaways with a very good first pass as a winger. And his shot, oh boy. I don't think guys like Tyler Seguin etc are any better at wiring the puck into the back of the net than he is. We never used him properly on the power play (or 3v3, or 4v4...) which gave him a false reputation as lacking consistency when really, he was a very reliable scorer. And he'll never, ever take a bad penalty.

Hamilton, I won't miss him. Took a lot of bad penalties and scored a lot of goals. Good at moving the puck out of his zone and keeping the pressure on in your zone. But just something mechanical about the way the team played with him on the ice and while I think you can win with him, I don't think you need him to win.

Fox. Serious upside. Think Spurgeon crossed with Shattenkirk. Only weakness I can see is that he struggles to lose forecheckers with his skating in the D-zone when he has the puck but that can be fixed over time and further development. If he signs, that is. Him being a college UFA was the only reason he was part of this trade and it sucks to me.

1. The entire staff apparently agreed that this was the right deal. So blame the whole staff of you think it's a bad deal.

2. We were in on the Grubauer deal, and may yet be in an upcoming Grubauer deal, or many other deals upcoming.

3. The fact that any of us were actually pinning it hopes on Veini f***ing Vevilainen LOL is ridiculous on its face and illustrates that we don't know what the f*** we're talking about anyway.

4. A reminder that the shit we'd done previously got us zero playoff appearances in a league where half the f***ing teams make it every year.

Hate it if you want. I say bring it the f*** on.

In what ****ing world is Hamilton worth either of these deals?

Well I wouldn't trade him for the latter deal for sure.

And it would take Draisaitl for Hamilton. There's zero reason to accept anything less.

So take your facepalm back over to the Edmonton boards where you can celebrate ruining a generational players career with the rest of your fanbase.

I honestly like this trade. I was never a big fan of Lindholm and I thought that even Hanifin was a tad overrated. And I have absolutely loved how Hamilton plays. Ferland and Fox are also interesting players whom I see pretty good potential with. Just good to get some new blood and honestly get rid of Lindholm, whom always felt to me like playing with a handbrake on. Hopefully that’s just how he is as a player, and handbrake wasn’t playing for the Canes... Probably more about Peters though than just playing for the Canes, if he suddenly starts playing magnificently for the Flames.

That's why you have Staal there. C upgrade for todays group would be nice but you got 2 high end young players who could be your futur top6 C's, including a #1C. Aho has shown every potential to be that if given the chance.
So next year I'd see where they go and if have to would go for a bigger move.

Skinner- Aho- TT
Zykov/x- Staal- Williams
Rask/x- Necas- Svec
is a top9 I'd be looking at, or something like that.

Hamilton is a 1st pair guy, Slavin- Pesce play the heavy minutes and Hamilton can carry a lesser player next to him with softer minutes.
Carolina is going to be a lot faster next year with offense from 3 lines potentially.

What I don’t like is the set up for this. Meeting with Lindholm’s people yesterday and calling it bust, making sure we know specifics of the deal when they’ve been working on the trade for weeks and making it seem like both these guys wanted too much money and because of that weren’t “buying in” on turning the Canes around and just wanted money.

That’s horse shit. They’re rfa’s and the agents job is to start high. The money Lindy “wanted” wasn’t even that high compared to what he’s going to get.

I feel Waddell and Co has been devaluing these two players to us so we wouldn’t be so freaked out we traded them. Like we had no choice BUT to trade them. We had plenty of choices, and the best choice other choice would’ve just been to negotiate through the summer and get them signed.

We suffered through two awful seasons to earn those two players, and have watched them develop for a years now up close. To lose them so suddenly is shocking.

We traded them for older players, and I don’t think we got faster. Ferland has to be signed soon and if he does well will be expensive so we’re not saving any money long term on these swaps, another reason the whole “our guys wanted too much money” spiel is crap. Fox wasn’t going to sign them and will maybe just as likely not sign with us. A huge question mark.

They didn’t want Hamilton. For all his stats he’s been moved twice already. He’s better than Hanifin as the season ended, but that’s all that’s sure.

Hanifin maybe wasn’t going to get better, it if he does he’ll be better than Hamilton all around imo. I’ve never been very impressed with Hamilton.

So to my original point, just own it that you want to tear down everything Francis did just because that’s what you wanted to do. Put your own stamp on your new team. Don’t slag the guys on the way out, because that’s crap. We won’t know if this works for a few years, but no doubt we can look back on this fork in the road for this team and make a judgement.

DH is a young dynamic defenseman, why did he not have a NMC? Or did he? Hope he has a attitude adjustment before he hits CAR's locker room, if the the stories are real...hoping there not. Most times tales are overblown. I'm happy if he is.

Yeah, he (allegedly) also had issues with Boston. Two teams are willing to trade him, despite his potential/production, in some part due to those locker room issues.

I'm hoping it's much ado about nothing, but it's obviously better to not have these concerns at all.
To be fair his trade from Boston was in large part about his contract demands and the team being in cap hell at the time. If not doubtful he would have ever been moved.

Ferland sucks, man. He has like 7 decent games per season. He'll never be a star. It has nothing to do with centres.
