I'm probably Lindholm's biggest fanboy and I don't have a problem with this deal. Hanifin is being vastly overvalued IMO. Hamilton is a massive upgrade on him.
I saw that play, Lindholm actually tripped and fell into that player.....I’m very confused about any question marks regarding Ferland. 21 goals and across the board is known as a guy with a nonstop motor. Lindholm hit someone once, I think.
The only real problem I have with the deal is that is it did not address the teams biggest needs. Goaltending and a Center, but there may be more moves to come as this probably makes Faulk expendable.
Lindholm asking for that Kind of money was out of line and probably is what set this in motion. ferland has some size which is a need. Its a start... can't wait to see the next moves!!!
Aho has only a few handful of games at center, Necas 0, and it's hard to count on Rask to do much.Lindholm was starting to get pushed out of top6 and he's looking what 5M?
Aho, Svec, TT, Necas, Staal, Skinner as top6 options today, add Zykov/Rask/Williams to challenge for spot, add the guy who they could get for a trade with one of their D-men(Faulk).
I honestly believe today Carolina has a core that can one day be a serious threat in Metro.
Your Gm made it sound like today that goaltending is going to be the priority now and they will look at all the options.
He was surprisingly straight about it.
C has options with Aho/Staal/Necas/Rask.
Well I wouldn't trade him for the latter deal for sure.In what ****ing world is Hamilton worth either of these deals?

Skinner might/probably will be traded. Aho did play a lot of wing, and so did Lindholm. So wing is very much unsettled as well, even with Svechnikov coming in.
Still need a lefty on defense to pair with Hamilton. Fleury/Bean most likely aren't ready and may never be for a top 4 role.
Not a lot of options at goaltender either when Lehner/Andersen/Hutton/etc are probably your best options.
I don't hate the trade at all. In fact, I've really warmed up to it as I think Hamilton is a very real upgrade to our defense. And we still have time to acquire and sign players this offseason. Just a lot of question marks surrounding the team still.
To be fair his trade from Boston was in large part about his contract demands and the team being in cap hell at the time. If not doubtful he would have ever been moved.Yeah, he (allegedly) also had issues with Boston. Two teams are willing to trade him, despite his potential/production, in some part due to those locker room issues.
I'm hoping it's much ado about nothing, but it's obviously better to not have these concerns at all.

My previous post strangely disappeared, but I'll reiterate my feelings:
Carolina won this trade as far as I can see, although as a Flames fan I have to hope I'm wrong.
You guys got a heck of a player in Micheal Ferland. Don't make unrealistic expectations about his physical game (i.e.: don't watch highlights of his 2015 Vancouver Playoff series and then expect him to bring that level of intensity every night - it's impossible) but the upside with this player isn't just a third liner. I would say last year he played at the level of a second liner through and through. His teammates get most of the press and therefore the credit, but I have a slightly different opinion: Ferland was the second best player on the Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland line and with a better center could be an NHL star. He is a complete player and has Brad Marchand type upside, maybe a bit less of a headcase and a bit bigger at 6'2" / 220-ish lbs. The thing that will really grab you is his skating - he's actually a very fast forward despite his size and it allows him to get breakaways, but on the other hand he's also able to spring his linemates on breakaways with a very good first pass as a winger. And his shot, oh boy. I don't think guys like Tyler Seguin etc are any better at wiring the puck into the back of the net than he is. We never used him properly on the power play (or 3v3, or 4v4...) which gave him a false reputation as lacking consistency when really, he was a very reliable scorer. And he'll never, ever take a bad penalty.
Hamilton, I won't miss him. Took a lot of bad penalties and scored a lot of goals. Good at moving the puck out of his zone and keeping the pressure on in your zone. But just something mechanical about the way the team played with him on the ice and while I think you can win with him, I don't think you need him to win.
Fox. Serious upside. Think Spurgeon crossed with Shattenkirk. Only weakness I can see is that he struggles to lose forecheckers with his skating in the D-zone when he has the puck but that can be fixed over time and further development. If he signs, that is. Him being a college UFA was the only reason he was part of this trade and it sucks to me.
