Yeah, am I taking crazy pills? When did Lindholm ever get to play with players like Monahan and Gaudreau? And last year was Ferland's only season even close to what Lindholm has been producing at a younger age. Takes some severe mental gymnastics to come up with Kev's analysis of these two players.
What I like is that he’s improved (5 to 15 to 21 goals), stays healthy, 70+ games each of 3 seasons, and is universally noted as being a ***** to play against.

Lindholm is just so meh. Whether that’s expectations from being the 5th overall or just from watching him play and being completely underwhelmed, I don’t know. What I do know is, I wouldn’t put either player (Hanifin or Lindholm) as a “guaranteed core player going forward.” So I’m not terribly sad to see either go, especially in light of contract talks not going well.

I’m not going to miss Lindholm at all. He is what’s he is, a 45-point middle six player who can’t shoot. I don’t see the potential that many here do.

Hanifin, however is a tough blow as I still see #1D potential there, but the upgrade from him to Hamilton can’t be ignored. Allows us to now flip Faulk for a F or D.

I also don’t see the point in shitting on our players in order to convince ourselves we won the deal. Hanifin may still break out, Lindholm may still show a different level. They are good, valuable assets we gave up.

I happen to like the new ones better. I think today, I do this trade. Can’t guarantee it works out, especially when (as Kev mentioned) the oldest guy in the deal is 26. But I think given we received the best player (today), we have some level of certainty that we at least receive something big from this deal we didn’t have before. I don’t think Calgary has that same luxury.

To my, possibly biased memory Ladd was a better player. He was one of the few physical players, frequently led the team in hits, was a net front presence at a time when our PP didnt suck and actually contributed in the playoffs. Hanifin is a decent 2 way D with alot of potential. We completely botched thr Ladd trade but I dont think the two trades are comparable at all.

Canes win this one quite easily. Dougie is currently a tier above Noah. Can this change, possibly, but I haven't seen the progression in Noah's game.
Lindholm will not be missed. Not nearly the offensive threat that he was hoped to be. Ferland will slot into the third or fourth line and add a scoring boost.
Really like the kid Fox. Three years in college and will probably make the jump to the NHL. Dump Faulk and within a year or two, this kid will be running the PP.

Fox regressed this year at Harvard, but it's hard to say how he'll turn out. It's hard not to like this deal for both teams - Carolina gets the better defenseman right now, while downgrading on Lindholm slightly to Ferland, but also taking a chance on Fox. Calgary gets Hanifin who could break out with the Flames and traded Hamilton from a position of strength, while acquiring an upgrade at forward in Lindholm over Ferland.

Hanifin and Lindholm were both 5th overall picks. I think Calgary likes Rasmus Andersson more than Oliver Kylington, so maybe the swap of an RD for another LD makes sense:

Giordano - Stone
Hanifin - Hamonic
Brodie - Andersson
Kylington/Kulak

I’m starting to think that there were some behind the scenes issues with Hanifin.
And don’t discount some issues with Hamilton. That’s twice as a coveted offensive RD that he’s been traded. Someone I trust gave me a little background - kind of a dick, smug, thinks his **** doesn’t stink, arrogant prick who wears out his welcome wherever he goes.

So we got that going for us!

Hopefully that is overdoing it.

Ferland seems like an older McGinn to me. A little bit odd unless McGinn is an add-on in a deal with Faulk.

Hamilton is a 25 year old #1 defenseman under reasonable contract for 3 years. There’s a possibility that next season he puts up the best season by a defenseman in franchise history.

Fox is a legit prospect himself and this might be the odd situation where Tripp Tracy serves some use as a Harvard alum. I also have to wonder if drafting Drury was somewhat influenced by this.

We need to use Faulk for a forward to replace skinners goals. That needs to be a separate deal judged separately but I see how they are linked with Hamilton allowing a Faulk deal.

Oiler fan here seen a lot of these guys
- Hamilton is fkn good, goes without saying
- Dont expect much from Ferland he is nowhere near Lindholm level. Probably at best a 3op 3rd line guy who has a lot of character. Not a top6 guy unless as a filler on a star line. TT-Aho-Ferland could work if yall convert Aho to C and then I could see Ferland as a 40p guy again

Exactly. We traded out Faulk's usualy goal output for Hamilton's though he's better on D, OK Cool.
Traded at best a wash between Lindholm and Ferland
so how are we going to replace Skinner's production, and add to it? which is what we actually need to do to make the playoffs

You know we are allowed to actually get things in exchange for Faulk and Skinner, right?

We don’t just lose them as a part of the terms of this trade.

I think that's probably the most accurate assessment of who Ferland is away from Monahan and Gaudreau.

We just wasted assets on a problem-case spec who probably won't sign, a problem-case locker-room cancer, and a 4th-liner who isn't any better than guys who will be available in FA for league-minimum. Good job, Donnie.

Considering the rest of draft weekend, Waddell should be fired by sunset and threatened with death if he ever sets foot in NC again.

Other than Svech, he literally did nothing right. Our goaltending is still broken, the trade is an abomination, he made the team worse today and in future years. On the bright side, we're going to be a strong contender for Jack Hughes...and DW probably can't screw that up either.

Pls be sarcasm pls be sarcasm...

No. I hate this trade in an unmitigated sense.

Other than Svech...something DW couldn't screw up...the weekend was crap. Waddell has quickly established himself as the worst GM this organization has had since I was 8, the team was in Hartford, and Eddie Johnston was GM.

My brain-damaged parakeet would be better at the job. I have no confidence in DW's ability to not get scammed in Skinner and Faulk trades I think we all know are coming...
