Yeah but they did it. That counts for a lot.

We've seen some good teams, even great teams, completely shit the bed when they're pressed with Florida being the prime example.

Drury has his work cut out for him due to the sins of his predecessor, but if we've learned anything about this group is that they won't back down from a challenge or fold the second something goes wrong.

They're also not done yet.
This is exactly my concern. On paper, we're going to be Florida in the next two seasons. Odds on favorites with Carolina to come out of the East. Pittsburgh if Malkin and Letang go back for one more run, and Washington will all still be in the picture for one last run and will still give this Rangers team fits. Then you're likely running into Carolina again. That's still a very hard road.

I'm really trying to be positive and believe that this experience will be good for the young guys especially and make them really hungry to take the next step, but even with experience, a lot still needs to go right. If experience were the only predictor of success, Pittsburgh and Washington would be in the conference finals every year. This Rangers team will still need to fade injuries and bad matchups even with this window opening.

I still believe this is going seven, but I'm less convinced of it now than I was 48 hours ago. The tank looks empty. It's easier to have two stabs to close it out then to need to hit two in a row to advance. Yet another chance absolutely squandered.

I try to be optimistic and not be negative and doom and gloom, but I've had a incomprehensibly bad last 24 hours. I'm just not in a good mental place.

One thing about all of the this is that we played more playoff hockey this then some teams have over 3 years. Bodes well for more long runs in the future. The take away from this is winning in the playoff is a learning thing. They have to learn how to get out in front and step on their necks

No team will be odds-on favorites to come out of the East. Too much parity.

And how can you say two teams will be odds-on favorites, lol.

This guy needs to be in a jail cell

That's really bad. Throw their ass in jail.

Horrible look for this fanbase and this team. That guy was suckered out cold. I really hope he's ok.

f*** that, with that shit, these fans don't deserve a Cup or to even win on Saturday or Tuesday. Not that they're in the same universe, but I bet this asshole was one of the one's chanting "Igor's better" during Game 1 and Game 2.

Why is it your concern? They've literally done what Florida has not been able to do. They've won more games than any iteration of the current Hurricanes core has been able to. They'll be around for a while though, I agree with that.

Pittsburgh is toast, the Rangers closed the door on that era the second that Panarin shot crossed the goal line.

Washington is toast, that team wasn't very good this year and they will continue to not be very good.

Other teams will replace those teams but who knows how they'll handle playing in games that matter. We already know how this group will respond to adversity.

As for things needing to go right for teams to get far, yeah thats been true of every team thats ever won. It isn't exclusive to the Rangers.

Not if the refs continue to refuse to call anything on Tampa. I see another slug of a game where the clutching, grabbing, interference will not be called.
What's new is they don't even call blatant trips now. Tripping is so obvious the refs have always had to call them but not tonight. Wth? Complete BS.

There are a lot of losers at MSG on a nightly basis. Fake tough guys all over the place. Hate to admit it as a die hard Rangers fan with many great memories in that building, but it is what it is.

1000000000000%.

I'm sure the Tampa fan was being a dickhead, but thats not a reason to sucker punch the guy. Anyone who throws a punch during a sporting event shouldn't be allowed to attend them (self defense aside.)
Yup, that guy should see nothing but a jail cell for the next five years and be banned from any sporting venue in the United States for life. The way that guy's head hit the ground and the sound it made was sickening.

Responded above but I'll repeat it for you.

Getting to a conference final isn't just like any Tuesday for a team. It is so, so hard to get here. This group is getting great experience. The best I can hope for is that they realize they need to close a series out sooner than 7 so they have more juice when shit really gets real. Knowing this team's history, there's just no chance that Carolina doesn't get their revenge this year or next. They NEED to win it in the next two years, so they essentially only have one shot at this if they don't get it done this year. This core's going to be broken up one way or another with the flat cap.

Another round of cap compliance buyouts is coming. There just has to be. No doubt Panarin, Kreider, or Trouba will be one of them. The NHLPA is going to be in an uproar with the number of players that will be without contracts. It's going to be a shitty time to be a free agent in the next two summers if you're a middle six or middle pairing player. The Rangers won't have the cap space to take advantage. Teams on the upswing like Detroit, Buffalo, Devils, and Flyers will be in the best position to take advantage and will be back in the playoffs with better, deeper teams to go up against the heavies in Carolina, the Rangers, and Tampa very, very shortly.

This sounds alarmist but I think a lot of folks here are taking how hard it is to get here for granted.
Sometimes teams need to experience failure before ultimate success. That goes for everybody, including Tampa and Colorado. I know there are no guarantees but I like our chances moving forward. The 2012-2015 teams had 3 pretty deep runs and this team has better elite talent and a higher ceiling. The kids are getting plenty of invaluable experience. They have the elite talent and core to get it done, now they just have continue the build and adding pieces that fit the mold. I trust Drury to do this. This was never a completed project and the fact that they went this far should be reasons for optimism. Changes will be made and the cap situation isn't as dire as some make it seem. The build continues. We have plenty of prospects in the cupboard too. Kravs, Lundkvist, Jones, Robertson, Berard, Othmann, CuyIle to name a few that gives Drury options to get better. I would much rather be in the Rangers position coming off a deep run than any of the bottom feeders you mentioned.

Different being the favorite versus being the underdog. They haven't played well with a series lead thus far though they've only had one against Tampa. There's still a lot to learn. Some tweaks like cutting the dead weight in Rooney and Nemeth, relegating Reaves to the 13th forward position, being smart with addressing the 2C issue, and injecting youth like Cuylle, Berard, and Othmann will absolutely help immensely. All three of those kids have the mindset that this team lacks. Pain in the ass to play against crease crashers. The Rangers literally have not had a player like Othmann since Petr Prucha. Shoot first and ask questions later. He's a better forechecker than Prucha ever was. I'm most excited about him. He could step into Vatrano's spot next year and do a better job.

They pitched tents in front of Igor, it's f***ing awful to watch. We can't clear the net, old man Perry squatting in the paint, f*** out of here. You get what you deserve. Had chances in that 3rd too, couldn't finish it.

ESPNs broadcast is atrocious. Their camera angles are brutal, entire production is amateur hour. Every night they post Ray "68 Playoff Games" Ferraro, wtf cares, like is that all they could find on Ferraro when looking up his wiki or some shit?

Whatever, maybe they clutch up and win the next two, but they've blown good opportunities and it's hard to make up ground.
And all our guys are now almost a third of the way there

It's pathetic behavior. All over a f***ing game where the participants wouldn't give a single f*** if most of us were to be diagnosed with a terminal illness tomorrow.

I hope that guy who threw the punch swings on someone who knows what hes doing one day. Promise you he'll never pull that shit again.

Upswing is a hilarious word to describe these teams

The overpassing tells me Vasilevsky is in their heads
It's been the tactic since day 1. Valley broke it down before the series started. Go EW to open up Vasy and he'll let in goals. It worked in game 1&2 and tonight it was just the execution that was lacking for Chytil and Strome. Lindgren had a great look last game and Trouba shot into the netting instead of passing to a wide open Kakko.
