It's a small sample size, but the argument is that he will regress to the mean and start to produce more. He *should* have 5 more goals than he does now. It's not an exact science but he's getting high danger chances. If the sample size continues to grow and he continues down this same path then I'd agree with you, but for now, I'm waiting to see.

This makes sense and I, too, have been waiting for that regression to the mean. I just don't know if it will happen; so many of the high-danger chances he produces are him using his speed to drive hard to the net, where he apparently has no idea what to do when he gets there. Dude is like 24 or whatever and that kind of play should really be his bread and butter. You'd think he'd be better at finishing around the crease but he's just...not able to do it.

Sure, over-achieving is something I think most would agree with, especially since most had the Rangers as a borderline playoff team. But this isn't Montreal last year. This is a team that was expected to be excellent soon, just not yet. For all the "unsustainable" folks: that's fine. The beauty of this season's success so far is that it doesn't have to be sustainable. This is a bonus, not the expectation.

As for the promise of the 2nd window, you may be correct. But I've watched enough hockey over decades to know better than to write off or bet on anyone not truly generational like Lemieux, Jagr, McDavid, Crosby, and Ovechkin at the age of 20-22, especially not in the weirdest seasons the NHL has seen since WW2, and kids having played under 100 games. They may not deliver. They may. Either way, it's okay, but we should enjoy the damn ride at least. Of the 32 teams in the league, 31 won't win the Cup every year. But hovering at 70% points percentage through nearly half a year is a very good sign.
Very good point on not writing off a player, the Rangers had a player, don’t remember exact age, but we wrote him off and he became a star(not generational) with 2 other teams……Marc Savard

I just really hope that if/when Chytil gets traded that there won't be a narrative that we gave up on him too soon if he has a resurgence like Duclair.

Duclair was considered a key piece when we moved him, so I don't think we 'gave up on him' any more than people could claim we gave up on Zac Jones or Nils Lundkvist if they had been dealt for Eichel.

I remember how psyched I was when that trade was made and thought we were going to be unstoppable.

Im glad we didn't give up on Libor Hajek. He's playing solidly, maybe there best he's ever played in a Rangers uniform.

@gabevh3 not a far reach in comparing Kreids inability to score on a breakaway to GOAT. Give him a couple of years to learn how to "slow down" and make the goalie THINK.
Said the same more than a few times.

Oh and btw, the best Sat/Sun afternoon game the Rangers have played in a VERY VERY LONG TIME. Almost stress free.

Ck used to be good on breakaways tho ... not sure what happened but i meant the old breakaway kreider. Maybe even Rick nash can work with him some.

Hughes isn’t on a playoff team
The nyr aren’t a playoff team because of Lafrenniere.

You see - liking rooting hoping wishing lying to oneself doesn’t equal reality .

Right now Lafrenniere Kakko Chytil are borderline flops
Maybe Chytil… maybe

This is lafs first real season with an actual schedule. He’s been underwhelming to this point for sure, but it’s waaaaay too early to make any calls on him.

Kakko has shown flashes, is invincible on the boards and has great vision. He’s coming along nicely

Kreider and Zib played great.

But we got huge contributions from a bunch of the kids. Igor, Miller, Laf played key roles. Jones, Lundkvist and Gauthier all had good games.

I love that Laf was given shifts at the end of the game and even some PK time. He deserved it. He played a complete game even if he didn't end up on the scoresheet. He is gaining GG's trust which should lead to more TOI. He's playing a reliable game and he's finally moving his legs every shift and in fact being one of the most impactful forwards on his line in all zones. Good stuff. Hope he can keep it up.

This team with and without Panarin are two completely different things. Zibanejad getting his spot on the PP turns him into a decisive attacking player. Strome shoots, Hunt sticks with a simpler game. More ice time for the 20-93-24 line and the kids line. I don't know what the solution is but the pieces are there.
Trade Panarin for a young center+++. I’ve said this repeatedly. It opens up space on the wing for our top picks, creates cap space, and returns several premium assets.

It’s not going to happen because of his NMC but it’s the skeleton key that will unlock this lineup.

Been saying it for a few weeks. He’s our third best defenseman now. And the sky’s the limit.
Yeah, he's still 21 for a few weeks and has barely played a full season of NHL games. Of course he still makes mistakes--getting caught out high, chasing his partner's man, etc. You know what, everyone does that, including Adam Fox. He'll get better, I have no doubt, become more consistent, and really prove to be a nice piece.
