I think the ignore function defeats the purpose of a message board.

Echo chambers are boring.

There's a fine line.
Agree that echo chambers are boring, and reading different opinions are great. But some posters just post nothing but crap, I'm assuming in an attempt to get a rise out of others. After enough times, it's just easier to remove them from the conversation

And you don't find that the conversations lose some coherence then?

I'm genuinely curious. I don't really enjoy reading threads anymore, and I think I'm going to 'clean up' what I'm seeing, a bit.

To people that use the ignore button liberally: do you feel that you lose a lot of the context for conversations on here? Or miss out on threads?
A majority of the conversations here suck anyway, so no.

It is annoying that threads started by people on the ignore list are also hidden but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make a lot of the time.

I’d miss chestnuts like this if I used the ignore feature.

Don’t be fooled by the scoreboard we are getting smoked out there today …

Tampa may score 4 in the 3rd

I don't have a huge ignore list, so not really.
It can be weird when there a lot of replies to a post and you haven't seen the original, but it doesn't faze me too much and based on the replies it normally seems to justify the original ignore

I've only got 2 people total on my ignore list, and one's just so that i don't have to see dozens of silly threads that go absolutely nowhere on the trade boards.

There are some posters that are just annoying people but actually come to participate in the discussion. I try to leave those.

Then there are some people that have like 3-4 things that they want to talk about exclusively in every thread whether it's relevant or not. Those people can f*** right off onto my ignore list. And no I don't feel like I miss anything, because you can pretty much tell exactly what's going on when they're causing shit in a thread.

Then there are people who you legitimately question whether they're intellectually impaired, and there's no loss there, either.

Also, sometimes I just go back through my ignore list and take a bunch of people off, and see if they're any better. I have several people that have spent a long time on my list who have come back off.

Is Gauthier the worst finisher in the NHL?
Dude is a replaceable fourth liner. I know people like to cite that "he has only played XX games" but there's a reason for that, which is other than skating fast and giving a good effort he's not particularly good at anything. I know he has scored at the junior and AHL level, but the guy is f***ing incapable of scoring in the NHL (and he doesn't really generate for anyone else).

We just took down the back to back stanley cup champ. We scored early and just coasted on good defense. A lot of tbs shots were to the outside. Rangers buckled down and stepped up. I just want a berth to be reached. Once youre in the playoffs, anything can happen.

I tend not to ignore the ones who create the threads often. But other than that I get extreme joy seeing some posters argue with no one . Knowing I made the right choice in ignoring those jackasses.

Are we talking about main boarders too or just the NYR board? There can't be THAT many offenders here, can there?

Excellent game, did exactly what they had to do. I guess this was a game that the naysayers don’t have much to say
2 more points on the march to the playoffs.
Need this effort tomorrow for the Oilers

Damn I hope I'm not on the list :(

20 year old kid with 88 NHL games is certainly not approaching bust status.

we'll see who shows up in the Playoffs
Hughes isn’t on a playoff team
The nyr aren’t a playoff team because of Lafrenniere.

You see - liking rooting hoping wishing lying to oneself doesn’t equal reality .

Right now Lafrenniere Kakko Chytil are borderline flops
