Down 3-1 to Pittsburgh, everyone thought we were out of it. Down 2-0 and 3-2 to Carolina, everyone thought we were out of it. Hell, I thought we'd be lucky to win one game against the Canes after the way we lost Game 1. Then I thought we'd be lucky to win one game against Tampa. This team showed a lot of fight through the first 16 games of the playoffs, especially for such a young, inexperienced team. Unfortunately, from the moment we went up 2-0 in Game 3, we stopped playing and Tampa went into hunger mode. We had a chance to put the series away in Game 3 and we blew it. We had a chance to go up 3-2 and at least guarantee a Game 7 back on home ice in Game 5 and we blew it. Whether that's on us or just a sign of how good Tampa is, I don't know, but that's what makes it frustrating. Yes, we made it further than I or most people thought we would, but we were right there man. One less dumb penalty by Trouba in Game 3 and one puck into a wide open net from Ryan Strome in Game 5 and we're in the Stanley Cup Final (and maybe we're there if the refs call a fair series too, but that's besides the point).
Seriously though, great season, but looking forward Strome needs to be gone. If someone out there is willing to pay up for Trouba, I think you need to pull the trigger. Both of those guys let the team down in the biggest moments time and time again. And both have priced themselves out of NY anyway. Also needs to be some heat on Gallant for scratching Kakko, ESPECIALLY considering Strome was garbage and clearly not ready to play. You could tell there were several times he was massively out-coached throughout the playoffs.
Let's go Avs!
