SUPER Pleased that Timo had a breakout game. :thumbu:

Getting a point was good at least.

Not pleased by the friggin' Gimmick once again f*cking us over. :thumbd:

Thank god the Gimmick does not exist in the Playoffs.

We'd still be playing if this was the Playoffs.

That's back to back games for Bratt not being a factor (at least on the scoresheet) against a Playoff team. :help:

I don't know how to feel about that.

Oh that's right....Bratt was not on Jack's line (once again) tonight, was he?

(sigh...good lord, Lindy.)

Anyway, onto Florida.

Meier on that last power play was a pure stud

He’s at his best when he’s shooting the puck and keeping his feet moving, something that he’s not able to do in the bumper spot. Ironically Bratt had a beauty of a tip in the bumper spot. I think going forward it should be Hughes and Meier on the half walls.

I know Bratt and Hughes like to do these fancy passes cross the middle of the box and it looks cool but the power play needs someone who is going to rip it without hesitation

Sometimes simpler is better

Good process, bad results but fortunately all they need to do is clean it up on the PP and PK

Jack Hughes with 5 giveaways is not ideal. The entire Lightning team had 9 and the rest of the Devils had 6. Don't really know how those are calculated but I would've thought it was more. Kind of hard to tell what the league average is for these kind of things either and how scorekeepers in different arenas do the tracking. Anyways, doing some basic stat viewing, Jack is just outside the top10 in giveaways and giveaways/60 which is definitely to be expected to some extent but he basically seems to average a tad over 1 giveaway per game. Definitely an anomaly game for him and I'd like to see him take far better care of the puck and make better decisions because his decision making/passing precision was way off today and definitely cost us some potential chances in the offensive zone.

Hischier has been a monster these last few weeks. It's a combination of him playing his best hockey and the line with Mercer and Tatar having insane chemistry.

Hughes hasn't been bad but hasn't been great either. He seems a little off. Lack of agression in his game ever since coming back from the injury.

Biggest issue the team has are two:

1) Yes, they generate a lot of offense but I'm not seeing a lot of high quality shots which explains the lack of goal scoring in proportion to the number of shots taken. I wanna see more set up plays from the circle, more agressiveness down low near the crease.
2) Too often they are turning the puck over in their own zone, mainly from being out of position and getting caught up in a play. It's happening too often. Defense needs to tighten up and play structurally disciplined.

I feel as if we have been outcoached in games against Boston, Toronto and Tampa.
Those teams are necessarily better than us but they have outhustled and outcoached us.

Yeah the SO loss always stings, but the comeback and the fact that it was Meier! made this a positive experience! I lost all hope after that 5v3 turned into a Tampa lead. Proud of the boys! The gears are a little rusty right now, but just make it to the playoffs and figure out everything (line combos) by then.

Game was a but frustrating but there is alot of positives to take away from this game. Was great to see Meier score 2 big goals but was a bit of a bummer he couldn't score in the shootout. We payed them very good at 5 on 5 in the back 40 minutes of the game and were the more dangerous team in overtime. We had a chance to go up 3 to 2 with Hughes on that 2 on 1 after we tied it. Also there was a play with Nico and McLeod after we tied it 3 to 3 where we almost scored on another 2 on 1. It sucks we didn't ge the win but I'm pretty happy with the way we played minus a fee hiccups. Sigenthaler almost cost us a point with that awful penalty he took but the team found a way to make up for it. We have been studs on the road so this little 2 game road trip should be just what we need. Play like we did tonight and chances are we will walk away with some points this weekend.

refreshing to see someone roof it in a shootout its really remarkable how these guys get in so close and try to stuff it through a pad or try to lift it over the pad when they are 4ft out.

if the nhl wanted to eliminate more games going to the shootout then force a way for teams to stop ragging the puck in overtime it kills so much time of an already short 5mins.

oh and that 5on3 was an absolute joke disgrace. zero creativity and also can the team more specifically jack stop trying short side roof shots along the goal line. we get it worked once but to see them do it 5x in a game come on.

anyone at the game? was it loud couldn't really tell on tv would've assumed it felt like a playoff game with the schedule

My biggest gripe with that 5 on 3 was that Hischier and Meier NEVER touched the puck. It was literally Bratt and Hughes curling in looking for one timers or setting up Hamilton at the top. There was no creativity or anything down low. Just an absolutely tragic power play when they really could've taken over the game. You knew Tampa would scored very soon after it expired just because of how putrid it was.

Meier can take Bratt's spot on PP1 and move him down. Promote Mercer

im sure this has been touched on, but was interesting to hear lindy say they have given thought to moving mercer up to PP1. and i do def understand him saying that w/o practice you dont just throw a guy there midgame. wonder who would come off that top unit if that route is tried.

Plus we saw tonight what Meier can and will add to this team. He is the best pure scorer I’ve seen here since Kovey. Both of those scores tonight were 105 millimeter point blank canon shots. It’s something we’ve not had in years and a big piece in the edifice we’re building. He and Stamkos 2 goals each tonight. That’s the equivalence.

Also watching Meier live it’s clear he’s still nursing that upper body injury. After some contact he’s in visible pain then sucks it up and moves on. So this isn’t him nearly at 100%.
