Plus we saw tonight what Meier can and will add to this team. He is the best pure scorer I’ve seen here since Kovey. Both of those scores tonight were 105 millimeter point blank canon shots. It’s something we’ve not had in years and a big piece in the edifice we’re building. He and Stamkos 2 goals each tonight. That’s the equivalence.

I love the storyline of young upstart team looking to break through vs the savvy veteran team. They got us twice but you can tell we’re figuring it out. Tonight was an improvement in some ways .
we’re not going to take the next step beating up on bottom feeders we need this adversity

I don’t actually understand what’s happening with Bratt. It doesn’t seem physical, he’s skating as good as ever.
I agree it isn’t his wheels. I suspect it’s emotional. The contract dragging on must be weighing on him. My guess is he’s conflicted. His agent is telling him to hold out but he sees what’s developing and doesn’t want to leave.

I don't like having a point percentage under .700

Go fix that this weekend
You’re getting greedy! 3rd in the league! ;)

To further highlight Nico’s game tonight:

2 A, +1, 6 SOG, 3 hits, 2 blocks and went 17-23 in the dot to a 74% faceoff win rate. This includes going 9-10 in the offensive zone.

Swiss King.
New avatar goes hard!

I’m super glad Meier got going tonight. I’m sure he’ll feel good about his game going forward. His celly on the 2nd goal was awesome and full of emotion. Good to see.

Also, decided to go back to the previous avatar. Jack was going crazy when I had it, maybe it’s the good luck charm for him. Let’s keep rolling!

I hate the thought of splitting up the Tatar-Nico-Mercer line but getting Bratt going might require it.

Bratt-Nico-Mercer
Tatar-Jack-Meier
Palat-Haula-Boqvist
Wood/Rango-McLeod-Bastian/Lazar

I only do this when it becomes absolutely necessary. But Bratt needs to get going somehow. I don't know if continuing to try him with Jack and Timo works.

This was a whole different level of opposition and of pressure. It forces us to raise our level of play and to play a different kind of a game. People said that the Carolina game had a playoff feel but I really thought that it was tonight that started to feel like a playoff game. We had really wet the bed against them Tuesday and didn’t put up much of a flight in the last 2 periods. The pressure on us not to get beat again was intense tonight and we really did rise to the occasion despite everything going wrong that could go wrong - a bad bounce goal against 90 seconds in; blowing a 5 on 3 and getting scored on right after; giving up a potential game loser with 4 minutes and change left . . . And we keep coming back and coming back and get the game to OT.

Whatever happens in the playoffs this team isn’t going to go quietly. We’re learning what it takes to win at every level and phase of the season. We will learn more from this game tonight than if we’d blown them out.

I agree. From my standpoint, making the playoffs was the goal. It’s our first year turning the corner and we do this? It’s only the beginning.

Whatever happens going forward, we have a special group. I hope people will remember that. It’s the first big season for us, much more to come and many more young and talented guys to come along.
