Oooooooh, snarky.

Good thing the best goalie in the world only plays for one team. And if you play this manner consistently, you'll likely win more games than you lose.

I’ve been as skeptical of the math as anyone the last couple years when the team continued to lose but this year they deserve a lot more benefit of the doubt in terms of pointing out they played well enough in defeat to win other games.

Geez I hope this isn’t true his problem this year has been concussions
Doesn't help that on Tuesday he ate it and went face first into the side of the net/post lol

Maybe that’s where he hurt himself then, because I saw that Tuesday and he did killer Nico impression while holding his side last night.

I assumed it was related to what was holding him out earlier but maybe it’s unrelated.

That’s actually better, since if he just got bruised on Tuesday it will likely hurt for a while but should get better by the playoffs. (The concussion part isn’t better but I didn’t know anything about that and I wasn’t referring to it obviously.)

Certainly. I don't blame anyone for thinking the Deserve to Win'O Meter is ridiculous (personally, I feel that way ) but when you watch the game and see what the team does out there on a nightly basis, you see that they are playing to their strengths and largely putting more pressure on the other team.

It's not without risk, it's inherent in this sport if you play this way. You still need to finish, you still need to be cautious of the risks you take and you need timely goaltending. That's just hockey at its core.

I think we passed the test last night against a team that knows how to win every which way.

Tampa relies on its skill guys to score while having the rest of the team play a heavy game and then Vasi does the rest. It’s a formula that works.

So when it matters they win a lot of these frustrating close games. They’ve not looked great in the regular season at times in the last three years so that doesn’t even tell you much about how they’ll do in the playoffs.

But this was very close, hockey has a certain amount of randomness. Eventually they will figure out how to get more with Meier on the PP.

Some here have stated it should be a 10 minute OT.

Here's a radical idea that just came to me :

Each time a team deliberately brings the puck out of the offensive zone (and maintain possession during that), the game clock STOPS and only resumes when they get into the offensive zone.

That would put a stop to the BS purposely-delaying tactics to take time off the clock and get to the Gimmick.

If teams know they can't delay anymore, they'd make an effort to end the game when they're in the O-zone.
I always wanted them to change the rule that once you enter the zone you can’t exit the zone. If you exit the zone it goes to a face off in your zone and you can’t change your lines if ur the offending team

Unfortunately we won't have 3 on 3 ot on our side either
It's generally been the case this year that that more 5v5 minutes are played, the more likely the Devils are to win.

I don't like punishing teams for playing smart. Honestly, more teams should be willing to leave the O zone with possession at 5v5 too. The devils have done this plenty this year themselves and have been a dominant 3v3 team because of it.

I also want to come up with a rule that won’t allow teams to leave the offensive zone but this may introduce a ton of stoppages.

Can we treat it like played with a high stick? If the puck leaves the offensive zone then the other team has to play it next or it’s a penalty? I can see how the team waiting to play the puck could abuse this.

It’s a tough balancing act to try and put in a reasonable rule that covers all situations, can’t be abused, and isn’t abusive.

Yeah, I don’t understand why people want us to do worse 3v3 either.

Our players carry the puck out of the offensive zone all the time to change lines or avoid pressure. Not sure why this is a problem or why people want to make weird, nonsense rules to make this a different game. It’s not hard to get right back in so few players.

You need to be careful about possession because with only three players it’s very easy to give up 2-on-1 going the other way if you aren’t careful. It’s always going to be more deliberately played except on breakaways.

We’re 10-3 in OT and 2-4 in SO, so it’s mostly ended in OT.

I don’t really have any problem with 3v3 other than I wish it was longer and the GMs discussed going to 7 minute 3v3 OT. That would help.

I’m excited for Saturday, I’m not really scared of this Panthers team. They won 9-5 last night, but Bobrovski allowed 5 goals on 1.95 xGA and the team had a lower xGF% against the Habs than we did against TB last night. We’re the better team, but we know this.

The game is played on the ice though, just have to show up as we did last night and get a solid performance between the pipes.
Bob sucks anymore. Washed up sad sack of shit. Better than Quick, but that’s not saying much. He’s getting there. Both had fluke up years last season.

I think it was Biz or someone else on TNT that took a shot at him the other night without saying his name, when they were going over the standings. They said maybe one day they’ll get some goaltending with all the money they’re paying for it.

Flying a little under the radar after how the top-6 performed last night, but I thought the 4th line was VERY good.

Lazar is a good 4th line guy, I liked his game a lot. He plays a simple/safe game, he got like 1-2 chances, but he lays the body, plays responsibly and brings energy. Low-event hockey, that’s what you need out of the 4th line.

He might bring less offense than Miles, but I feel way more at ease with him on the ice. Doesn’t seem to be prone to weird plays/decisions.
I am not sure if Shara or Bastian is the answer on the 4th line . Salary might have to be the deciding factor . Bastian at say 1.25 mil might be better than Shara at 2.75 . I could be way off dollar amount but I can’t see Shara making as little as Bastian

So Meier could be potentially be hindered by a concussion or ?

Cute…

It’s 2023, Bob. Concussions are not downplayed or treated like this.

Like you really are naive. You think they are going to broadast to the world his exact injury while trying to trade him??
Doesn’t matter he seems fine now and played great last night

*insert palm to face emoji*

Players with a recent Concussion are not talked this openly about. Coaches don’t say the things that I just posted. They just stay silent about it. They don’t say it’s lingering, or it’s not serious. Nor would the player be open for media availability like Timo was for the month.

My god Bob

Please speculation is not allowed
I've been friends with a staffer for probably close to 40 years now. Almost my whole life.

Well, he's more than a ''Staffer''. I can't say exactly who he is, out of confidence, as I've said a few things on these boards over the years that could personally out him.

He's not in hockey ops, though he's close enough to the situation to know this is no concussion.

That said, there is a bit of a privacy issue when it comes to medical issues, but I know it's not a concussion.

It was a little more serious than scratching him to protect an asset like what happened to Chychrun for like a month or Taylor Hall for a week or whatever we had him, but I'm also pretty sure that if it were the playoffs, it was something he could have and probably would have played through.

The Sharks medical staff is also one of the best in the league. They're pretty league renowned for that.

There haven't been controversies with them as some other organizations in the league.

That's one area of the organization where I think you can still say is in top form.
