Hughes is playing through what appears to be a shoulder injury where he will likely get surgery in the offseason.

He won’t/can’t take any contact with his upper body. The team obviously knows this but want him to play anyway. I’m guessing the shoulder is “healed” but they worry about a worse injury if he takes major contact.

So it’s a little hard to rag on a guy when he can’t play the way he normally would.
Let's just say we hypothetically are in a playoff spot. It seems like many players are hurt and can somehow sulk through it and be effective. This is like a precursor to him not being able to do that when the intensity is even lower.

Chip on the shoulder vibes coming next year.

I’m excited for the exit interviews.
Unless Jack / the players go into the offseason thinking they're an amazing team already they just need a goalie. I wonder what is up with Vanecek right now. I also wonder what kind of stuff got said behind closed doors about the goalies, even to their faces.

Someone keep me up to date on ruff comments, im on train
Said same thing as last year that NJ fans are passionate and want a winner in regard to fire chants....started to say we have had to deal with a lot I'm going to assume injuries but cut it quick....Then when asked about job security he acknowledged with coaching there is no job security....Said he holds himself accountable for the results on the ice....

@jkrdevil made a good point, though.

Lindy being conciliatory here instead of defiant means he knows the fat lady has sung in his coaching tenure after this loss.

Trade Toffoli, Miller, Smith and Nosek. Shut down Hughes and Meier. Fire Lindy. Consider trading Siegenthaler. Get an upgrade on LD, goalie and bottom six speed and grit this Summer
I don’t think anybody wants any of that crap other than Toffoli.

Smith and Nosek are basically Ryder and Havlat at the 2015 deadline, where no one wanted them.

I could see Miller bringing back a later round pick. Someone may want him, but they may also be turned off by the fact that he’s been a healthy scratch for Smith this year a few too many times lol.

Shoulder injuries get progressively worse and more likely to re-injure until you get surgery.

Jack can’t take contact, isn’t shooting as hard, and can’t control the puck as well.

I wouldn’t say it’s a precursor to him not performing when intensity goes up. It’s just the reality of someone playing through an injury that is radically affecting his game.

Jack had no problem with the intensity and physicality of the playoffs last year.

He’s a class act and I wouldn’t even chant to fire him if I were in the building, even though I think it’s time.

I feel bad when they have to chant it.

Sucks but it’s time.

It wasn’t a total failure, but I don’t see how you can leave him here to start next year under any circumstances.

Tough but it's sports, he's had more than enough track than most coaches have had in NJ. Guy would've been fired within 2 years if Lou was around.

I tend to think that you are spot on.... we'll see if he has off season surgery.

All that said, there seems to be something else going on too. He seems irritated and not happy Jack... He also at times looks disinterested. Maybe all effects of not being 100% I don't know. But something is obviously not right.

whether they gave up, tuned him out or are trying hard to do what he says.. it makes no difference.. its just not working .. we are a "built to score team" and we dont score against good teams this year at least not nearly enough

So, what is the status of our 1st round draft pick this year? Do we have it, or is it going to SJ as part of the Meier deal?

Or maybe he's finally realized what Nico knew last season : That Lindy Ruff AIN'T IT.

Only Hynes got a fifth season here after missing the playoffs 3 of 4 seasons, He's the only Devils head coach to get that.

Much different times then.

We've already had a GM change since then due to lack of progress in icing a winning team.
