Protecting Kassian over Benson is so f***ing dumb and so short sighted it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from this organization

Couldn't agree more. I don't hate kassian either, he is a perfectly fine player in fact. But he is pretty badly over paid in a cap league. So much so, that Seattle would be pretty dumb for taking him. If they did though, you replace what he does for $1.5 million less and move on

7x7 for Landeskog compared to 7x6 for Hyman. I'm a big Hyman fan but how does this make any freaking sense?

Friedman just said he thinks that Hall will hit the market because there's lots of interest. Gonna have to overpay to bring one of these guys in. Hall ain't taking a discount to sign here.

Friedman says Leafs offered Hyman 8 years at a lower salary but didn't work out. This guy is going to get a big pay day and it'll be too much on term and salary. Friedman says Oilers are high on him. Also says there's a chance Hall goes to market.

I'm also convinced Holland doesn't understand the implications of giving out term.
That’s because he truly thinks if he just brings in “intangibles” no matter the cost, this team will win a cup the next couple years.

Not the fact the get caved when Mcdavid and Draisaitl are off the ice.

Ask TO how adding veterans for the sake of it turned out.

Kassian remains an interesting case for the expansion draft. If the Oilers don't protect him and he goes to the Kraken, losing his salary and term would help the team. But do you want to play a motivated Kassian 5-6 times a season?

Another thing to consider is although Kassian is overpaid, like Lucic, I see him as an extra insurance policy for the skill players. I recall players still taking runs at McDavid and Draisaitl even with Lucic as nothing is ever going to stop that but at least it's somewhat of a deterrent versus no deterrent.

Leading AHL scorer and all star who had played less than 10 nhl games…
He hasn’t been given the opportunity
Sadly. I kinda thought during the season they were showcasing Jones and hiding Benson in hopes Seattle could be baited into taking Jones and Benson gets his real shot after the ED. But nah, that plan would be nice for the Oilers.

The thing about Hyman is he slides right into Chiasson’s net front role on the PP. being a right hand shot is ideal there and he is built for that spot. He probably does live up to his contract from a points perspective in that role, and the intangibles he brings also make him attractive.

Puljujarvi can already fill this spot and plus I hope eventually we find a way to have him drift back from the front of the net to the Ovi-spot for one-timers occasionally.

I was actually surprised to see that Vancouver had 0 since 2016 considering they are supposed to be one of the more attractive Canadian markets
Hmm that is interesting. I’ve heard it on radio a lot, how Us free agents don’t come to Canada, guess it’s valid. So in assessing possible options for the team, we can take out the US born guys and we’ll have a better idea of what real options are out there.

Holland doesn't care about term at this point. He won't be here long enough to deal with those contracts on the back half and it's clearly "win now" mode so get ready for some bad contracts to players who will help in the short term.

This whole thing about "building a program" is done and over with now. It's go time.
