I mean last year he went hard for a goalie and then when it fell thru he pivoted. He usually has more than one plan at a time.
I don’t see it that way. Agree to disagree, but he essentially got put on his heels.

Like I said earlier in this thread, we are looking at our cap situation, and his work last offseason, very differently if Markstrom signs that deal.

No Barrie, No Smith last season, 2 HUGE parts of that team.

Like I said I’m hoping for the same this offseason, a miss on Hyman would be huge and allow him not to get Tunnel vision like last year. Friedman literally said Holland thought that deal was done with Markstrom.

Flame me all you want, I’ve defended Holland to this point but I’ve lost faith lately, like I said listening to him yesterday was crazy, seems like he’s pretty scrambled right now

Hall @ $$$$$WHATEVER IT TAKES
Tatar / Galchenyuk @ Whichever is cheapest

This is the what the Oilers need to be focused on.

A Hyman overpay will hurt us.

They need to be careful on all those. None of those move the Oilers into a legit Cup contender but you're locking your cap flexibility away.

Also Hall AND Tatar is not happening, the Oilers don't have the cap room for that even with buy outs.

So let's say Larsson is a goner, any chance we could pry Manson out of Anaheim without it costing our first born? The dream would be to grab Gibson at the same time.
If Larsson is a goner we just get Canadian Larsson in Jake McCabe and find a RD like Hamilton (high end) or Dunn

Hall gets us closer to Cup contender territory than any other ONE move. Right now, during flat cap, is the perfect time to go all in on a long term contract too. Without Covid, Hall is looking at 8M+ long term offers. UFA deals will always have a risk component, but we need to take SOME on, we can’t keep building this team 1 first round draft pick at a time. The time is now to pay up and start winning.

maybe Tatar becomes unaffordable. So fall back on the next option. Whatever that second LW needs to be, will be some sort of low value reclamation project. As long as there is a good amount ceiling and potential in that player I’m good with whatever shakes loose. It could be Galchenyuk.

I know it's been discussed here, but I'm surprised the local media hasn't talked about Schwartz.

I've already said I don't want an expensive long term top 6 wing, but if there was ever a guy looking for a Barrie-like boost, it would be him. Especially as he's a Saskatchewan kid, and his skill set (someone who goes to the dirty areas vs. a perimeter guy like Hall or Tatar) fits far better with what the team needs.

Why though? Seems like guys are already writing him off as the next David Clarkson without know how much it's going to cost and for how long.

David Clarkson signed a 7 year contract at 5.25M per season.

Over the past 3 seasons Clarkson had 62 even strength points in 210 games (0.295 EVP/GP) with a -34.

Over the past 3 seasons Hyman had 98 even strength points in just 165 games (0.594 EVP/GP) and was +48.

Basically Clarkson had half the production Hyman has had at even strength.
where in my post did i Compare him to Clarkson? cool would you have given Maroon a contract worth over 5 million after pts coring 27 goals He is a better comparable a late starter in the NHL that put up his best seasons from 27-29 years of age Hyman has been on the top line 90% of his career Maroon 25% You dont give a 29 year old who is a .53 career ppg and grinder like skills a big long contract

Maroon gp 171 pts 99 ppg .58 Age 27-29
Hyman gp 165 pts 111 ppg.67 Age 27-29

Hyman Career .53
Maroon.44
