He just keeps proving he was massively overdrafted. Looks like a 2nd round talent at best out there. Hasn't got a single skill that he excels at. Is just there. Definitely should have done better with that pick. It doesn't fill me with confidence because how much better can this guy really be than maybe a 40 pt player since he lacks elite skills in any aspect of his game. For starters he is not looking like he is gonna be better than Stepan to begin with.

Lias really looks frustrated when he missed that chance last evening, but I can understand it too since he is starting on the 4th line coming hot from AHL Woflpack earlier in the season with 12 pts. I don`t agree with Quinn with all of his decisions related to top drafted nhl talents. You can defend him and say; well look what he did to Chytil and his 5th goal hot streak, but I really don`t know guys and it feels more like random event in Chytil`s development, because he generated many shots earlier in the season as well, but he is adjusting to NHL level recently, and the hot goal streak would still happen if Quinn did things differently related to ice time decisions and coaching.

The people complaining about Andersson’s skating need to pay close attention to the way Hayes skates.

The Rangers had a PP at the end of the second period yesterday. Hayes is skating with the puck in the neutral zone. It looked like he was skating in quicksand. Let’s go Kevin. Time is winding down.

The Rangers give that guy a long term contract at $6M per, the Hayes will not need a NMC or NTC because that contract will be his restriction clause.

Andersson will be fine.

I don't think anyone here is delusional about Hayes. But stay on track. Lias is not a seventh overall pick. I don't know what they saw. I don't see a single skill that stands out. Not defense, not offense. No intangibles yet. Nothing. I am so angry about wasting that pick. We always f***ing do that.

For the type of player that Lias was projected to be... a 2 way type more than some dynamic looking offensive star... I feel like this is good for his development. He went down to AHL and showed he could get on the score sheet and be a team leader. Now he comes up and they have him as a bottom-6 role player focusing on forecheck, energy and defensive awareness. I have no doubt that when he starts showing more comfort on that side of the game at NHL speed, they'll start to move him with more offensively gifted players to build more of his offensive awareness.

If they were really a team looking to make cup runs, I'd say he should be back in the AHL. But for a developing team I like seeing that he's learning at the NHL level now and getting his feet under him. There will most likely be trades and injuries throughout the season and he'll get some more minutes.

Hayes at his worst was 10 times the skater Lias is. This isn’t even a good comparison. His rookie year Hayes has a couple end to end rush goals. Lias could never walk around 3 guys with speed and score at this level. Doubt he could or ever did at any level. Just can’t skate with the puck on his stick Hayes improved a ton but was never a horrible skater. Was average but for his size was never bad. Lias is 5 11 and can’t skate at all. Big difference

Gotta get this kid more minutes and PP time. With that being said I have no doubts he'll be a good player; but he's the prototypical example of what you DON'T pick at 7OA. 'Intangibles' should never, ever, (repeat: NEVER) be taken into account when picking a player that high. I don't care if the kid is selling crack outside the Garden after the game; if he projects as a gamebreaker I want him. This organization has always been one massive vagina when it comes to taking safe bets with their 1st round picks. You need to take players with extremely high offensive upside in the first round (see: Chytil and Kravtsov) unless there's a defenseman available that you just can't pass on (see: Miller). You don't take a guy who's known as a quote on quote "strong leader" but projects as a 40-50 point shutdown center at 7OA. You just don't. This organization should be barred from having any top 10 picks, ever. I invite anyone to challenge me on that; feel free to look at the Rangers organizational history of drafting in the top 10. (I'll save you the time: Brendl, Lundmark, McIlrath, Montoya, and the list goes on shortly after 10OA)

What a lot of people seem to forget is that this was the first pick we had in the first round in 5 years. Brady Skjei was the last 1st rounder we had before the 2017 draft started. It has been mentioned several times that the Rangers didn't want to swing for the fences with their first pick in the draft, and by picking a safer player, they were able to get that boom-or-bust player with the 2nd pick. Chytil was a HUGE reach at 21 and it worked out well so far. Part of the reason the Rangers felt comfortable with Chytil is because of who they picked 90 minutes earlier.

But, it has not even been 18 months since they were both drafted. People need to chill

Just going to also state that Lias put up the 2nd most points by a U18 player all-time in a season in the J20 SuperElit. He's 18th in PPG by a U18 player, but only 5 players above him had 20 or more games, and 2 of those are Kopitar and Alex Steen. He's got a history of being a serious point producer, but it's his overall game that people notice

Yeah hasn’t Andersson’s production at lower levels always been good/above-average?

2nd highest point total (59) in a SuperElit season by an u18 player. Only Michael Holmqvist in 96-97 had more (64). Similar point-per-game average as Anze Kopitar at the same age, in the same league

None of this shit matters because the eye does not lie. This guy DOES NOT have the physical skills necessary to be an impact player which is what you should be drafting at 7th overall. End of story. You could say I am beating a dead horse but it is what it is. He can never not be a bust now because of that. He doesn't have it. At least Chytil shows he has skill, this guy doesn't have a single skill worthy of a top ten pick. This bullshit is what keeps this team in perpetual purgatory. I am so sick of it.

Your eyes lie when you have a preconceived notion about a player and look for anything you can to justify it

Patience is a virtue.

Not saying he’s a bust, not saying I know he’s going to be fine. I don’t know, no one knows. Let it play out. He’s played a whopping 16 games at this level. FFS.

If you want to feel better look at the list of 21st overall picks. It’s a crapshoot 7th, 21st or 205th

Well, on a team like Buffalo he would probably play a bigger role because they simply do not have the depth at center that we have
Our depth chart looks the way it does because he's been surpassed by a player the same age and player younger than him. I was told that wasn't going to happen.

The notion that there's not a single thing he's very good at seems spot on to me.

Need to give him some sort of opportunity like we did with Namestnikov playing top minutes with some capable linemates, and leave him there. Unfortunately I don’t think we may see that for a while if we’re soliciting some of our players with more ice time and capable line mates for a nice ROI by March.

If Lias didn’t look so good in the SHL and AHL, I’d be concerned. He looked very good both places.

Not going to have a panic attack watching him 6 mins a night on a fourth line as he breaks in.

Exactly.

How much can you really get done or show in 6 minutes of ice time? It's silly. We're looking at tiny sample sizes and making massive extrapolations.

If Lias did well in the SHL, the WJCs, and the AHL, he has the potential to do well in the NHL. He'll adjust, he'll get better at seeing plays develop, and he'll have a decent chance of working out. What he needs is time and patience, not knee-jerk reactions. I couldn't handle a damn thing at 20 years old.

2017 NHL Entry Draft | Hockey-Reference.com. - Take a look at the first round. A lot of those guys are still learning the game and getting their feet wet aside from some freaks like Pettersson. Two of the top 10 haven't even stepped foot on NHL ice during a game yet. It's far too early to judge.
