Not saying "put a fork in him, he's done", but we can at least open the drawer and look at the forks..

Definitely shouldn't be sizing up any forks yet.

Perhaps a spatula to make sure he's getting developed evenly on all sides.

Or a colander to filter out the traits that aren't up to par which he should work hardest on.

But jumping straight to the cutlery is a cooking faux pas that I want no part of.

I have always been one of the kid's more ardent supporters, think he got a bit of a raw deal during his NHL stint, and think he'll be an excellent player long term.

That said, it is somewhat concerning that his play appears (to me) lackadaisical, and like he's not particularly engaged. That's just my assessment but he looks much different than he did to start the year, which I think anyone who regularly watches Hartford would agree with. Regarding his shot generation, since January 1, he's had 35 shots in 20 games, so 1.75 per. That includes an outlier-ish 7 SOG game, which was his season high. He was basically a lock for 2-3 shots every night before, when he had 35 shots in 15 games. So, there's clearly been some drop off. Similarly, if I counted correctly his contribution percentage has fallen in that time to 17% (8 of 47). That number is fine in its own right, but again, it's indicative of something changing in him around the time he was sent back down.

Hartford sucks and has fallen apart in general, but I think there's more to it. He still gets good PP time and plays primarily with Lettieri, who is a point-per-game player. I don't know for sure what it is, but I hope he turns it around and finishes the season strong.

EDIT: His numbers since going down are actually 35 shots in 22 games (1.59) and 8 points from 55 team goals (14.5%). Those should be accurate.
This is why you do not want to ice a terrible team. It could have ramifications for young players. Hartford is a dumpster fire. A reason I do not want to sell all the pieces and become a 'dumpster fire' for the big club.

Need to instill a winning culture. What is happening in Hartford is inexcusable with the resources available to the NYR.

the talent just isn't there. look at that roster. ugh.

not sure why people dont see the direct correlation to our so-so drafting and the continued poor results in hartford.

that environment is bad for developing prospects and the prospects we are trying to develop all lack real top end talent.

Like someone mentioned, Chytil, Howden and Pionk could all easily be in Hartford right now if it were a different coach and/or we weren't rebuilding, so I wouldn't put a ton of stock into how they've been doing this season. I am a wee bit concerned about the culture there, but hardly any of our higher upside prospects are playing for them

In my opinion that is and was kind of strange all the way from the start of the season.

Pionk as an older prospect I can understand him being in the NHL, the other two I'm not sure if it was really because they thought it would be better for their development, or if was more about the optics of a rebuilding team not playing their most ready prospects in the NHL. I'm thinking a little of both.

At the start of the season, the talent was there to ice a playoff contender. No doubt. Butler being shit hurt, because he was counted on to be like a 40-50 point guy and isn't. The other veterans did their part. Trading Schneider made no sense. They could maybe have added a good AHL defenseman, but they had too many defensive prospects as it was. Tokarski and Mazanec being crap was also a killer.

The team was in playoff contention for some time before collapsing.

Not really accurate. Our 2 best prospects are in the KHL. We also have guys playing in the NHL, who normally wouldn't have, like Chytil, Howden, etc.

I'm not arguing our drafting hasn't been so-so -- although it's not easy to do it well when you don't have first round picks for years in a row -- but I wouldn't look to Hartford as a gauge for our prospect pool.

Just recalled him from Hartford

interesting timing. Rangers have 12 forwards available and no one sat out or seemed injured in the morning skate, so he'd be the 13th forward at the moment unless someone is getting moved...

somethings happening

Yah I just edited my post. With 12 healthy skaters and no one mysteriously sitting out the morning skate or getting injured during it, calling Lias up makes him the 13th forward which makes no real sense

Could be a deal and the verge of going down today and they want to have Andersson ready and available for the game tonight

This is completely consistent with what I've seen .

I think going through a poor stretch is a pretty normal thing for a prospect and overreacting to that is almost always the wrong thing to do. People were ready to give up on DeAngelo when his point production dipped in Hartford last year and then again at the beginning of this season and now he might be our most promising young defenseman. People were ready to give up on Buchnevich after he was benched following the all star break and he's posted 7 points and generated 23 shots in the 10 games since. You could go on and on. Andersson's demonstrated the ability to produce at every level except the NHL and he's only 20 years old. Giving up on guys like that because they're going through growing pains is exactly the wrong thing to do.

Some people who do so are the ones trying to affirm the narrative that they have built in their heads that Lias was the wrong pick because he was drafted for intangibles rather than skills. Some are not even meaning to do so consciously.

I was unable to stay up for this game, but how did he do? I see he had 3 shots on goal, which is a a good sign on the surface.
