Yeah...I know we wanna love lias here...but he's not really done enough to deserve to be in this lineup....I'd send him down.

My issue right now isn't with lias giving up that goal...my issue with him is he's rarely doing anything noteworthy out there...he seems to generate almost zero offense and he's supposed to be a top 9 player...
He needs more time in the ahl.

That fire is missing. My concerns are about having him around the level of complacency we are seeing. For Lias to be effective, he needs to be the type of player whose the straw that stirs the drink.

What I'm seeing from him, is what I'm seeing from others on the roster.

Happy to get that NHL check, not moving their feet, just trying to get shifts over with, and really low situational awareness.

Send him down, make him earn that check.

This is how you ruin kids, you play them because you did a shitty job of building roster depth, and they make more money as a 20 year old that allots them a 1%er lifestyle without earning it. They get used to that, and are out of the league for not progressing 3-4 years down the road.

There isn't any leadership or a group of self-motivated players on this roster. Until you move them out, you keep the kids out of this environment.

Lias had a chance to make plays on 3 occasions this game. One resulted in a goal against, another in lost offensive zone possession on a cycle, third - missed shot on goal from a prime location just in front and noone near him. Can’t go 0 for 3 in these situations.

Yeah and it's easy to pick apart individual plays like that..but in truth the offense dies on his stick seemingly 90% of the time he touches it.

He needs some work. It's ok.

Kid needs game time. Prior to tonight he'd played less than 20 mins of competitive hockey in 14 days. Send him back to the Pack to work on his game playing 15-20 a night.
If he continues his early season form with them bring up again in around 6 weeks

Yup, those who are aware of my posting history know that I don’t say such and such sucks because of a couple of plays in a particular game, but this is typical of Lias’ recent performance. At this point (and given the bodies available in Belesky, Nieves, Fogs, etc) Andersson should return to the AHL to get his confidence up and work on execution.

He's not at NHL game speed. Not even talking about his skating speed. Needs to think and process faster.

Bingo. I think this is the issue, it's too reactionary. To me, turnovers aren't teaching moments for Lias.

What I'm guessing is that they want him to get some Prentice time. If that's the case, then you either sit him and let him train and practice... where he just works on strength and skating.... which he hasn't had a lot of chances to do with the amount of hockey he's played last year. This is reasonable and perfectly understandable.

The other element of it is that, if Prentice is only with the big club, then Lias isn't going to get that chance in HFD.

What I would do is send him down for home games wit HFD. Bring him back up and keep training him in the gym and non-stop skating drills and video.

I’ve been saying it since the first time I saw him. He cannot skate at all. We can make all the excuses for him we want but he’s a horrific skater. I said it during the first period before his awful turnover, that he may be the slowest guy I’ve seen in the league this year with the puck on his stick. He cannot pull away from anyone in any situation.

Until that changes he’s going to struggle mightily at the NHL level. He can get away with it in the A or in Sweden. He cannot in the show. I don’t know the answer to fixing it he’s got heavy feet. He isn’t agile. His edgework is non existent. Its a tall request to fix.

One thing at a time. Regaining his confidence is step one. He needs to be effective in the NHL forth-liner role first.

Once again can the kid play a couple years before we peg him as anything good or bad. Guys who werent good skaters when we got them, Stepan, Hayes, Boyle and even Girardi (who had regressed but was an important piece with mcdonagh for a few years). All of them got better and learned to skate better or use their strengths to their advantage, I dont dount Lias will do the same.

This board cracks me up sometimes. A few weeks ago when lias was doing well in the A some posters here were pumping his tires and trashing CM bc he was struggling to put up points in the show. Then lias comes in and he struggles. Player development takes time. Not every player is ready right when they get drafted or get to the show...

I'd say people have been, if anything, overly forgiving of his play.

I think it's been lacking...with that said it's all part of the process...and part of that process, to me, would be to send him back down. I don't think he's an nhler right now...but with more seasoning he should be.

The revolving door is draining my attention on who is in or out. The fringe players change daily.

My comment wasn't directed at you. I actually agree with you, I'm just commenting on the pengelium swing comments on these players. They require patience and everyone has a different development curve and development needs. Lias should be in the A. He should be down there dominating and playing all situations before we peg him into a half a$$ role up here again.

The key is for the GM not to panic and let the kid develop. What he does at 19 or 20 is irrelevant, no matter how many highlight-reel goals Pettersson is scoring 3000 miles away. Just because EP is tearing it up, doesn't mean every other 2017 pick needs to match his production to validate where they were drafted. If Lias was in Sweden getting an assist every other game like Boqvist, his assessments and upside would be sky high.

Give Lias time. The Rangers are a mess and he's not the reason why. If he makes one nice play a week, and then it become two, three etc, that's perfectly fine. If it takes three years to make 5-6 nice plays a game, who the hell cares why it took so long?
