I see a lot of Alex Steen in his game with more bite. I would take that with the 7th overall pick. underrated player too

That seems a bit hyperbolic. What because he slimmed down a bit and looks solid in Training Camp/Pre-season? This year is gonna be very telling for Andersson. I'm definitely not writing him off but 6 points last year in half a season is a huge red flag that this guy might not ever produce at a top-6 level.
This is at worst a yellow cocktail flag to me. Half a season playing 4th line minutes with bottom-6 players. 94.8 PDO. 55.3 dZS%. Forwards improve by leaps and bounds their first few years in the NHL. He turns 21 soon. If the average peak is 24-years-old, that gives him 3-4 seasons before we can write him off as a top-6 forward. He's been in the org. for 2 years; How many draft picks are impact players within 2 years? It's probably closer to 5. It'd hardly be the craziest thing to ever happen if he scores 25/35/45 points over the next 3 seasons.

The 2014 1st round is littered with forwards who doubled, even tripled their production before turning 24. Draisaitl is an extreme example because of McDavid, but he's still obviously talented...9 points in 37 games. Kapanen...9 points in 38 games. Ritchie...4 points in 33 games. Fiala...16 points in 54 games. Compared to this draft at least, Lias' first season was pretty normal: these 20-year-old kids get half a season in the NHL and aren't really expected to produce anything.

4th or 3rd line I dont care - and hopefully he can establish himself in NHL this season! :)

Even if you take the goal away he played a great game tonight...kept his feet moving...a whole lot less coasting in his game.

He’s earned the 2c spot imho....raise your hand if you expected me to say that lol.

I don't think he's ready for the 2C slot yet, as high on him as I am. But 3C i think he's the ideal guy.

And 3C at 20, he's right on track to being a big part of this team going forward.

I cannot stress this enough, watching him up close last night, man, he is tough to play against. He's only going to get stronger and more confident. The skating is a total non issue, he was in flight all night. Getting his nose dirty and was just all over every flyer he saw with the puck.

Really great to watch.

I always think drive is one of the most important qualities with a prospect in determining whether they will make it or not. Lias has drive, and those kids tend to figure out every possible way to improve.

He looks great. And we needed a kid like him to step up big

As much as I think the Couturier/Scheifele type comparisons are absurd...he should be the 2C to start the year. He's been far better than Howden/Chytil/Strome/Namestnikov yet they never give him a chance in that role. They've even used McKegg ahead of him on the PP2 in some preseason games which is ridiculous to me.

Good for him. He's had a very solid preseason. Its great he potted the goal in front of the net, but first thing I notice is his fore-check causing a turnover to get the play started.

I would agree that he can start as 2C. I think that Chytil has worked his way out of the C conversation and is either a wing or in Hartford to start the year. Given his performance on the boards in the latter two periods, I would guess he starts as a wing in NY. Unless we get a Strome surprise, I would think that Andersson and Howden start as some sort of 2C/3C combination, with Strome able to rotate in if necessary.

As someone who's used those names in discussing Lias, I think the point isn't so much to project Lias's ceiling or to say that he will/can be like them, so much as to refer to players drafted in a similar position whose career arcs did not follow along linear or consistent lines. They're useful comparisons insofar as they suggest that people be more patient and restrain themselves from deciding who this player will be based on so little and under strange circumstances.

And yeah, he's been the second best center of the pre-season. That said, it seems like he's still on the bubble and certainly behind Howden and Strome. Oh well. Part of why I root so hard for the kid is that unlike most franchises' dealings with top 10 picks, the Rangers have been brutal with him.

Nobody seemed to notice but on that drive to the net by Kreider that joe loved so much, Lias opens the lane by picking off the defenseman in front of the net, clearing the path for Kreider. If Kreider scores, Lias doesn't get a point, but it's those kinds of plays that display a real mind for how to catalyze offense and impress me.

It's also why I've been so insistent on withholding judgement on this kid until he plays some meaningful minutes with NHL scoring talent.

He’s not the offensive driver that some people want, but he has the skill set to be a great offense facilitator. If you go back and watch the last WJC he played in, Pettersson’s line was terrible at even strength until Lias was put on it
