Strength conditioning skating are all good areas to focus on. His balance needs to be priority 1 though..which of course is related to strength and skating.

Probably a make or break year from him in that I don't think he can take a step backwards this season...I don't see the rangers being willing to be patient with him if he doesn't progress at least somewhat.

It’s definitely a big year for him but to say it’s make or break is silly. Most guys aren’t even in the nhl yet and would be rookies this year.

It’s also not the worst thing in the world if it’s a slow steady progression for him. If all he does is solidify himself as a solid 3rd liner by the end of his elc, you may he in a position to get him for a few years fairly cheap as he moves into his peak.

I'd prefer Lias spend a little less time working on his skating. Don't really need him going all out in the offseason and then coming into the regular season exhausted.

Players today train all year round but yes rest is important, hopefully he is consulting with the rangers to find that balance

Really hope this kid can develop into a a 2nd line center still. As great as this rebuild has gone, he is the one piece that seems to be have mishandled. Remincesent of the way Maholtra, Blackburn, and Lundmarc seemed to have no stability or role early on their development.

He needs to show improvement. He's already been leapfrogged by at least 3 kids in the last 24 months.

How can you say Andersson got a fair shake? You saw the quality of line mates he played with.
I don't think he'd argue about him not getting a fair shake, but I do think it's a bit of a reach to suggest that he'd blossom into a superstar simply by playing with our top players. I like Lias a lot and still think he's going to be a good player, but I still see his ceiling as a two-way 2C.

 He's 20..

He won’t be a superstar in the sense of a point producing machine.

Then in what context will he be considered a superstar? Again, I'm a big Lias fan, but thinking he'll be a superstar just seems ridiculous to me.

The only thing I agreed with was “The only reason it hasn't translated to actual production is the players he has been paired with.“ I never said he would be a superstar. And my point was, how could so many things be wrong in that statement? He made a fair point.

Right, and I'd agree with that too. But I think inferno was probably focusing more on the latter half of that sentence re: him blossoming into a superstar.

Either way, I do agree with him that Lias needs to take a significant step forward this season. I think make-or-break is a stretch, but I'm still not a fan of how he handled his second stint in Hartford last year.

My make or break is strictly in regards to what I said immediately after that...if he takes a step backwards, he's probably gone.

I think the rangers will live with small steps forward..but if he regresses at all, with our system and Gorton's penchant for moving guys before their value hits rock bottom, I could see us shopping him.

I don't think lias' has gotten a fair shake.

I also think lias' has not done near enough to FORCE a fair shake.

Quinn, and frankly any good coach, should never give a guy elite linemates just because they deserve a fair shake...the guys need to show you something...anything.

Lias' looked great with lemieux and buchnevich...and I was very disappointed that Quinn broke em up...but to be fair..howden looked terrific with them as well.

the only thing I don't get why is Lias was stapled to fourth liners or not in the lineup while Howden got an entire season to get his back blown out defensively.

they definitely took it too far with Howden but I would've liked Lias get similar treatment.
Absolutely 100 percent agree with this. Howden was given way too long of a leash.

With so many high-profile new faces, the pressure is less heavy on guys like Lias and Howden. Let them develop at their own, if steady, pace. He's been talked about as a possible future captain. We don't need him to be a top-six player, and there have been non-top-six captains in the NHL.

I see Lias as potentially being a player like Drury who brings many intangibles and can will his team to win. Will he get there? Hopefully. But I am more than ready to let him take longer to develop into that than most here.

the more talent you add to the pool, the more he gets passed.

if the skills just arent there- and the jury is still out tbh, the more he becomes a bottom 6 guy and really, thats maybe what hes been all along.

intangibles only go so far in this league these days.

real skill trumps the other stuff every time.

I agree. You need tangibles first.

I like lias' frame and drive and willingness to pay a price, but he's gotta show me more.

I think howden had a real meh year last year but I've never gotten the feeling of worry with him. He's always felt like a kid that's working the the process. Same with chytil, lemieux, buch, Ada etc. But I get a different feeling with lias. When I watch him play I'm usually very uncomfortable with what I'm watching.

good thing for Lias is that he really has no public eye expectations or pressure. he just has to be an NHL player this year.

Yeah but if I had to choose between taking a highly regarded young player and stapling them to garbage/the 4th line and giving them maybe a little too long of a leash, I'm gonna choose the latter. Though I agree that Howden's leash was outrageously long.

I think he got a fair shake. He didn't show much individually other than a willingness to shoot an above average wrister from weird spots and was constantly behind the play and still got over 40 NHL games. If anything quality linemates would have papered over some of the game sense deficiencies he showed.

Getting your ass handed to you is a pretty great teacher. By all accounts his attitude and drive is very good so I'm looking forward to how he progresses this year. 12-13-25 with solid two-way play is very doable.
